S3.E1 Clone Cadets
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of Shaak Ti standing amidst battalions of graduated clone troopers as they ship out from Kamino. End ID.]
Our first clone centric ep!!!! Hoooo boy Domino Squad..... god I love these vod. A very heartfelt episode that emphasizes that the clones are different people, and that fighting as a group isn’t something that comes naturally, but must be chosen. The training insight is very interesting, and the side characters are intriguing, even though it sure does showcase some shit treatment of the clones, especially 99, even from his brothers :/. I love how the names are shown in this episode, and how much that speaks to them all as people. Fives has had his name from the first moment on screen, Echo is given his at first as a jab before owning it, Hevy is given his from 99 in a moment of incredible kindness and love, and Cutup takes his out of the mouth of a man degrading him. Each one of those moments is so unique and cool and ghlkdghldgj “TO ME, YOU’VE ALWAYS HAD A NAME”. god. I LOVE clone names and the way they make identities for themselves, even against the unbelievable odds in front of them. christ.
It is also, of course incredibly sad how this all ends up playing out, and watching it in retrospect while knowing what happens... knowing that only two survive to be ARC’s, knowing what happens to Fives and then Echo..... especially given how much “following orders” is brought up in this ep,,,,,, hrngh suffering :(
Personalized star ratings (each star awarded represents something I value in TCW): 8/10!
★ - Good flow of plot, engaging storyline without choppy movement
☆ - Compelling characters, and interesting, realistic development!!!
✰ - Consistency; no fuckups in the plot or details (lol)
✧ - Pathos; emotional episode with either heartwarming or heartbreaking content; successfully forces the watcher to think about and experience the character's emotions
✫ - Decency; treating nonhumans, women, characters of color, and/or sensitive subjects with respect, decency, and morals. (The clones are mistreated in this ep, but the ep focuses on their value transcending beyond supervisor violence. They’re still respected as people by the narrative, for now at least.)
✯- Humor! The humor and jokes all work, and are actually funny (YOU’VE NEVER MET A GIRL JOKE OF ALL TIME)
⍟ - Symbolism or foreshadowing
☽ - Rishi Eel Award; passes the Clone Bechdel test!

Star Wars: The Clone Wars (2008 feature film)
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of Ahsoka smiling at Anakin, R2D2, and Obi-Wan at the Republic Christophsis base. End ID.]
THE 2008 FEATURE FILM!!!!! I actually got to watch this movie in theatres as an 8 year old, so by god, for all this movie’s flaws, it does still hold an incredible element of nostalgia for me.
Although the dialogue is severely lacking in some places, and the storyline has something to be desired, I very much so enjoy this film. Featuring Obi-Wan OPENLY breaking the geneva code to flirt with an enemy general over a tea date, the A-Team hiding under a box, Rex laughing at Anakin, the clones bonding with Ahsoka 🥺, ventress reveal!!!, a BOPPING SOUNDTRACK, some great references, and one (1) stinky worm boi.
Downsides include the fact that it takes 30 minutes for this movie to even barely pass the clone bechdel test, and even then, it’s so fleeting I barely count it
Overall a very nostalgic and engaging film for me; it has a lot of the first experiences Ahsoka has as a Padawan, and a lot of the first moments we ever see of Rex, and thus holds a special place in my heart.

S1.E16 The Hidden Enemy
Tumblr media
[ID: An edited version of the awkward party reaction meme, with multiple partygoers holding red solo cups and turning to look at the camera with disgust. Faces of the clones have been edited onto all of the partygoers, with the distrustful reactions of the clone troopers as they all turn to face Slick. End ID.]
Moving right along to our first clone-centric episode of the chronology :0 This one being a very interesting and well paced episode! It’s one of the only episodes to bring up the wild morality/power dynamic involved in the whole “clone soldiers with no say in fighting” thing, and even though it’s a villain/traitor who brings it up, and of course it hardly ever gets elaborated on in any meaningful way (God forbid we spend time on the titular characters of the series), it is still pitched, so that’s something.
Other fun things involve Ventress and Obi-Wan being SO teasingly horny for no reason (hilarious), some very lovely Vod with cool hairstyles/tattoos (Sketch i love u), SLICK MY TRAGIC FRIEND SLICK, excellent clone content, a fun mystery, and well-executed reveal. This used to be one of my favorite episodes, and I’m not sure I’d rank it that high anymore, but it’s one I’m definitely still very fond of. It’s also the episode where the trust no one not even urself clone meme is from :D
Downsides again include the weird placement of the timeline (why is this a full season before Cat and Mouse?? why do we only just now get the context for the 2008 movie??), and a lack of follow up on Slick (and honestly a lack of a follow up on any incarcerated brothers, do we ever see the fate of arrested clones? many thoughts head full).

S2.E16 Cat and Mouse
Tumblr media
[ID: A screenshot of clone troopers Blackout and Spark sitting at the controls aboard Anakin’s stealth ship. End ID]
Kicking it off with a banger! Overall, this one’s a pretty interesting and engaging episode!! Featuring Nerdy Anakin, Anakin and Yularen’s first mission together, a cool ship, 10/10 Spark and Blackout my best friends Spark and Blackout, Bail Organa!!!!!, a well unveiled plot, and some decently-executed suspense. Overall, a very good episode. Includes some nostalgic references (”you’re our only hope”) without letting them overpower the episode in any way. I really wish we got to see some of these troopers again, they have such great banter and personalities, and cool designs, especially this early in the war!
Downsides include the fact that this is the first episode in the chronological timeline, and I cannot for the life of me figure out why the fuck it’s randomly hanging out in season 2. Literally this happens before the feature film?? Why do we only just now get to see Anakin and Yularen meet? Why are Spark and Blackout introduced like they’ll be recurring characters when they never show up again :(? Fascinating decisions here, Lucas. Other downside is that the villain is a giant tarantula and I Cannot get over the way his mouth forms words. He does not seem to possess lips that can touch each other and yet forms “M” sounds with ease and this distracted me so much the first time I watched it that I had to pause it to try and dissect him in my mind.
