We've all heard about eyelash extensions and by now you've probably tried them at-least once. You've seen your friends glamorous lashes and thought why not? After laying on the bed for an hour and forty five minutes, you open your eyes only to discover that your extensions don't look as glamorous as your friends (who also has amazing hair, brows and nails). Although pretty, you can't help but feel a little disappointed. The lash artist then asks, "Have you heard about volume lashes?".
Classic lashes are one lash extension to one natural eyelash. The lash artist can only apply a density and length that your natural eyelash can support. In other words, the thinner and weaker your natural eyelashes are, the lighter your lash extension set will appear. An individual with very strong lashes can hold longer and thicker extensions, making their eyelash extensions appear long and full.
Volume lashes is an eyelash extension technique that is very different from classic lash extensions. The lash artist will hand-make fans with lighter density extensions and place a fan on one natural eyelash. The fans can range from 2-5 extensions per fan. This technique allows for people with thinner eyelashes to have a thicker appearing extension set. The natural lashes will not be damaged as the weight of the fans are light even though the result looks fluffy and full.
You look at volume lash pictures and instantly just fall in love! Then you see the price difference between classic and volume and want to scream "WHY!". Well, lashing isn't easy and volume lashing is especially challenging. A full set of volume lashes takes 3 hours to complete due to the tediousness of hand-making fans. Companies do sell pre-made volume fans for lash artists to apply but they don't look or last the way hand-made fans do. A lash artist will find the natural lash they're making the fan for and determine how many extensions in a fan that natural lash can handle. Since the artist hand-made that fan then dipped it in glue, they can now place that fan where it wraps around the natural lash. This wrapping around the natural lash cannot occur with pre-made fans which results in shorter extension life. A hand-made fan wrapped around the natural lash will have better retention and you can go a little longer between fills. With that being said, if you are paying a premium for volume lashes you want to ensure the lash artist is hand-making your fans.
So what's a gal supposed to do?
Sell your soul for awesome volume lashes! Duh!
