Somethin’ a lil personal

With the New Moon in Libra, I thought I’d share a something in my life that requires balance. There’s a lot of duality that goes into taking care of yourself. This is especially true when dealing with something as serious as having Bipolar II and general anxiety.

I used to suffer through so many panic attacks and it was hard to make it through my day without a heavy feeling of dread and stress about everything. I was a depressed college student living in the dorms so when my main group of friends were busy, I’d entertain myself with partying and dabbling in drugs like shrooms to fill the void. I quickly learned that I’d rather be in control of my body through some stuff that almost happened to me.

Back then, I thought it was only depression and anxiety that I was dealing with with a short period of sanity where I was able to get EVERYTHING done and not have to sleep or eat. During those weeks, because they’d last for about a week and some, I decided to seek counseling. I knew what I was going through wasn’t normal for an eighteen year old. To feel like their life meant nothing can be crushing. So I started on the rough path to get help and my doctor suggested that it might be more than what I thought.

I felt comforted but also discouraged. I thought that was it for me, that my life was never going to be normal again, y’know? At the time I didn’t know much about Bipolar to understand how my mental illness can actually be worked with. I thought it was just something that ‘happened’ to me, not something that I could control through working on myself and finding little ‘hacks’ and connecting with the earth.

Now, I’m not saying I’m perfect. Far from it. The great thing about living is that there’s always new experiences to help you grow as a person and learn who you are.

Even if you feel that what’s going on with you isn’t as major as what was happening to me, don’t. Everyone handles hardships differently. This isn’t a contest of who has had a harder time of it.

You can start on the path of self love today. Seek help. Whether that be through doctors and medication or soul healing. I did both
