Often I bounce around the page as I work on it. I’ll usually at least lay it out in blue pencil. Then I either tighten up every drawing in lead pencil, or as was the case here, start inking a panel or two. All that matters is that the entire page gets inked, of course. I recently watched the documentary on filmmaker Roger Corman, "Corman's World". It's amazing how many other high profile Hollywood creatives he intersected with over the years (so many of them getting their earliest breaks through him). A passage he said in the film really stood out to me. After I was done watching the film I went back and replayed that scene and wrote it down in the back of a sketchbook (my El Muerto story bible). You can read it in the attached photo. Basically after he directed a highly regarded drama called THE INTRUDER (in 1962), a controversial film dealing with racism in the South, the film flopped at the box office. He then decided he'd continue making films but he wouldn't create them as 'issue' movies, but rather sure fire commercial genre films with their social messages/commentary much more hidden within the narrative. It's the old Hollywood adage "What's the film about? But then tell me what it's really about". So I wrote down what he said just as a reminder to myself that as I continue writing my El Muerto stories featuring Aztec deities, super gangsters, cultists, demons, etc... told through adventure stories and telenovela melodrama, that I first and foremost keep the stories visually engaging. Give the reader their popcorn.
