The Hermit & the Iceberg Theory

I must have been dreaming about tarot cards because my literal first thought this morning was about how the Hermit reminds me of the Iceberg theory. Where you see so little (the tip of the iceberg), and there's so much going on behind the scenes that you don't even realize (underneath the iceberg.. it's bigger than you thought!)

In writing, the Iceberg theory was a writing technique created by Ernest Hemingway. "Hemingway believed the deeper meaning of a story should not be evident on the surface, but should shine through implicitly." (Wikipedia, 2022). 

And when I think of the Hermit I think of philosophers like Plato and his "Allegory of the Cave." Which is similar to this iceberg theory. You only know what you can see. I could tell you about the things you can't see, but it's not the same. You have to experience it first hand to really understand. 

In terms of the Hermit, I think the Hermit encompasses that philosophical knowledge. It's represented by Virgo, which is ruled by Mercury. Mercury deals with...

When I first started reading tarot, learning and studying the cards seemed sooo daunting. There's 78 cards and as a capricorn rising, I was like, I'm gonna memorize them all. and that quickly fell apart because Memorization is not the key. If you want to understand and learn tarot, there's a few different ways you can do so.

1. Read about the story the tarot is telling.

Each card is just one specific place in a story. Read up on the overall story these cards are telling on a large scale and on a small scale. What's going on in one specific card story-wise?

going through my old journals is so crazy lol like i found my journal from my creative writing class in high school and i miss being able to write that much ???? that was probably the peak of my writing career. i even had writing published bc of that class. this journal is gold. i should do something similar to it again but my motivation for anything is 6 ft under. and i start school soon again.
