i do feel… nervous about mithrun becoming a more popular character after he'll show up in anime. there's no way people aren't gonna be ableist as hell. like, judging by the way fandom treats him already, it's not gonna be great. so far two extremes are treating him like a literal child or thinking that "he's gonna get all his desires back and become normal again". like, dude worked hard to recover and developed routines to take care of himself and i feel like it should be important

sometimes i think i'm "over" fandoms, that i don't need them anymore. but sometimes i realize how vital they are for a person who has a tendency to get invested/emotional about fiction, like me. because, guess what, your friends and family probably not gonna care about that one fictional story that rocked your world, even if you convince them to watch/read it. they will interact with it, maybe they will like it, then they'll move on. an old beaten path to dissapointment. so no, they won't help you with that burning, overwhelming feeling inside your mind. fandom will.

hot take, but i genuinely think that anime fucked up the scene where falin rips her shirt apart. like, seriously. that moment in manga is sooo masterfully drawn, like, literally every element is important in that picture and integral to its beauty. the composition, the weight of the lines. she's screaming, her neck is bent to the side from pain, but her animalistic eyes look right at you. her body is solid, realistically drawn, so all the non-human features are even more accentuated, but she's also ethereal, almost angelic-looking. she's hauntingly beautiful, but also so scary and unfamiliar, you almost forget it's falin.

anime did an okay job (and most of the other scenes with her were great), but i feel like they didn't do it justice

Mithrun's scarf is tied so cutely here, I'm imagining Kabru did it for him so it wouldn't fall off too easily while he's fighting/running around...

Plus the fact Mithrun's generally wrapped up super warmly in Falin's old coat while Kabru is just wearing his normal armour/clothes despite the cold...

Also do you think he brushed Mithrun's hair for him because he knows how important proper hair-care is for magic users? I feel like implication here is that he might have... It would make sense? It seems very Kabru... He's super aware of others so it makes sense he'd be that thoughtful in this situation.

This is all pretty cute considering Kabru didn't know how to cook before Mithrun and his room in his day-to-day life looks like this:

Otta really said "take care of captain mithrun for us" and Kabru said "I can do better than that" and took care of him better than the canaries did as his official caretakers. He even looks after Mithrun better than he looks after himself and learns new life skills from it. He didn't have to go this hard and yet...

Y'all, the world is sleeping on what NASA just pulled off with Voyager 1

The probe has been sending gibberish science data back to Earth, and scientists feared it was just the probe finally dying. You know, after working for 50 GODDAMN YEARS and LEAVING THE GODDAMN SOLAR SYSTEM and STILL CHURNING OUT GODDAMN DATA.

So they analyzed the gibberish and realized that in it was a total readout of EVERYTHING ON THE PROBE. Data, the programming, hardware specs and status, everything. They realized that one of the chips was malfunctioning.

So what do you do when your probe is 22 Billion km away and needs a fix? Why, you just REPROGRAM THAT ENTIRE GODDAMN THING. Told it to avoid the bad chip, store the data elsewhere.

Sent the new code on April 18th. Got a response on April 20th - yeah, it's so far away that it took that long just to transmit.

And the probe is working again.

From a programmer's perspective, that may be the most fucking impressive thing I have ever heard.

Just wanted to say I've seen so much praise for outer wilds before but never known anything about it, seeing you mention it in the tags on that time loop post made me wishlist it on the spot though 😭 HAD NO IDEA IT HAD ANYTHING TO DO WITH TIME LOOPS... I'M GONNA GET IT AS SOON AS I CAN NOW

it's one of the best games i've ever played. there's unspoken rule between fans to not spoil this game to anyone, because it can only be truly enjoyed once. that's probably why you didn't know this! (it's not that much of a spoiler though, so don't worry).

i hope you'll like this game as much as i do! :)
