Summary: In the days following Order 66, Ahsoka gets injured and Rex copes with getting her to safety and patching her up.
———————–
Battle Scars
Even in the shadows, Ahsoka looked pale as Rex helped her lean against the dirty brick wall. They were around the corner of an equally dirty-looking motel, but as far as Rex was concerned, it was a big step above having to stitch her up behind a dumpster in an alley like this one. It would be well worth their limited remaining credits supply.
“Hold this here,” he ordered, replacing his hand with hers to press the gauze against her bleeding shoulder. “I’ll be back in a jiff. Don’t let up on that pressure, Commander.”
She nodded weakly and sagged against the alley. By the time he had set his helmet at her feet and pulled up the hood of his cloak, her hand probably wasn’t doing anything except keeping the gauze from falling away completely. There was nothing to do, he would just have to be quick.
While the motel certainly had the look of a place that hosted all manner of under-the-radar activities, Rex wasn’t willing to test that theory by trying to check out a room dressed in full clone armor whilst bodily supporting an obviously bleeding woman. As it were, the Gran clerk barely spared him half a glance at all, much more focused on the credits jingling on the counter than looking at Rex’s face or confirming his fake name with any kind of ID. As little as a week ago, he would have disdained the lack of responsibility of this civilian, but he had since acquired a newfound appreciation for the deniability that those who interacted with criminals took on in their businesses.
Key in hand, Rex jogged back to the alley. Ahsoka’s eyes slowly opened as he came around the corner. He put on his helmet and they wordlessly exchanged wound-hands again: Rex’s left arm supported her from around her waist, his other hand pressed firmly against the gauze on her left shoulder, and her right arm draped around his shoulders, holding herself up.
Rex closed the motel door with his foot and locked it awkwardly with the arm around Ahsoka’s waist. Temporary barracks? Check, He thought. Makeshift med station? In the works. He poked his head into the refresher. It was unsurprisingly tiny and the counter around the sink would barely have enough room to sort the necessary supplies. Hmm.
The room itself sported scant furniture as well: just a bed that slept two, and two bedside tables on either side. He helped her pause once more against a wall, before striding to the bed. He yanked the cord from the lamp on one of the tables, placing the lamp on the bed, then hauled the table directly into the refresher so that it barely squeezed between the counter and the wall. It’ll do.

this life and next
Summary:
The kid’s pouting. The little jut of his bottom lip shouldn’t make him so adorable, but he is, and this six-year-old knows how to utilise it.
Good thing Ahsoka’s immune to such things; if it’s Zeb, or Sabine, or say, Rex, they’d fold the moment the big guns are out. K.O., no chance of turning back, and they’d give exactly what it is that Jacen wants because he’s got them all wrapped around his little pinky.
And in this case, it’s a Bespin cloud drop.
star wars. post-empire era. original trilogy era. established relationship. rexsoka. rated G. 2.3k+ words.
12 Days of Rexsoka, Day 12: Lifeday
“Don’t even think about it.”
The long silence is filled with tangible surprise and instant guilt. Ahsoka doesn’t turn around as she continues rearranging the cookies on the plate, saying, “I’m not gonna answer to your mother for your sticky fingers.”

12 Days of Rexsoka Day 5: Survival/Injury
Ahsoka reached out a hand to Rex, asking for his help to stand. He ignored it and scooped her into his arms again, causing her to yelp in protest.
“I can stand,” she objected. “I just need some help walking. You don’t need to carry me.”
“Maybe I WANT to carry you,” he retorted as he pushed the exit door with his back and turned the corner to the stairs that led to their room.
Ahsoka let out an exaggerated huff but nonetheless wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head against his shoulder.

“Hmm… So— hmm…”
Barriss liked to describe herself as a quick thinker. Somebody who could look at a situation and assess it with a cool head. She was having a hard time coming up with a logical explanation for what she was witnessing right now though.
“Hmm,” she said again.
"Are you gonna keep hemming and hawing or are you gonna help me out of this? We don’t have all day here, Offee," Ahsoka snarled between gritted teeth. Though that may have been because of the position she’d wedged herself in more than any frustration directed at her friend. Nothing about Ahsoka screamed comfortable right now. "And you owe me for that time with the worms."
That got Barriss’ attention. “You mean the time I told you to kill me, is that the time you mean?” she huffed petulantly. “You know what, fine, whatever, we've moved on from that. But what the—" She stopped herself from cursing just barely, and took a deep breath. Ahsoka is a dear friend, she reminded herself. A dear, dear friend... "What is going on and why are you—" She waved a hand around.
"In Rex’s quarters?"
"Well, yeah, that. But also—"
"Stuck in… what is this, a footlocker, a crate? Well, I don’t know what I’m stuck in here. That’s kind of the reason I called y—"
"Okay, yes, and—"
“The dress, yeah. Is it ugly? Padmé said it was in fashion but I kind of don’t believe her. I haven't actually seen it yet because of the, you know, the blindfold—"
"Ahsoka! Why are you in a— a ball gown! And a blindfold?! And what is wrong with your—” She wanted to just indicate Ahsoka’s whole person at this point because there wasn’t one part of her that she could say was normal. In the end, Barriss decided on just waving at her from top to bottom again, even knowing that she couldn’t see it. “What is going on?!"
"Oh." A sheepish smile crept onto her face, and Barriss imagined she would have avoided eye contact if, you know, she was looking at Barriss in the first place. "Well, it's a long story..."
.
"So you stepped on a poisonous plant on your last mission— which plant was it again? You know I took that botany course a few years ago—"
"I don't know what kind of plant it was, Barriss."
"Well excuse me for trying to get all the—" she grunted with the effort it took to shove Captain Rex's desk back into place, "facts straight while I help you cover up your crimes!"
"Sorry, sorry! I really don't remember what the healer said the plant was called. All I know is that my leg went numb where I stepped on the plant thing—like really numb, like I still can't feel it—and I lost my vision. Both temporary they said, and if Rex hadn't gotten me the antidote right away it could have been worse."
"Okay, that explains the blindfold—wait, no it doesn't. Why do you have a blindfold on?"
"Oh, well, my vision came back already, but my eyes are still really sensitive to light. And I kept squinting at everything and couldn't go outside without getting a massive headache so finally they just gave me this." She slapped the side of her head where a piece of thick black cloth wrapped around her lekku and covered her eyes.
"Mhmm. "
"Still can't feel my leg though. Not looking forward to the pins and needles if it's anything like when your limb falls asleep and then it wakes up again, you know what I mean?"
"And the ball gown?"
"Oh, well, I was out dress shopping with Padmé before this. There's some big formal thing she wants me to go with her to. Sounds lame, if you ask me. But Skyguy said I had to since I'm not cleared for any sort of work yet."
Barriss paused in her task of righting the various 'pads and miscellany of objects the Captain kept on top of his desk. "And you're still wearing the dress you bought?"
A timidly guilty look passed over Ahsoka’s face then. "I guess I didn't actually buy this one. I should probably return it once we're done here... Don't give me that look! It was a stressful afternoon!"
"You don't know what look I was giving you and it wouldn’t have been quite so stressful if you didn’t leave an embarrassing comm message for your captain detailing your massive crush on him..."
Ahsoka crossed her arms, but encased as they were in the great puffy sleeves of the dress, she could only manage to grab opposite wrists. "I have a vivid imagination. And I thought we agreed not to bring that up again. I told you, it was an accident. I didn't know I'd called him. I lost my comm in all these fluffy layers of the dress... Are you done with the desk yet?"
Barriss sighed as she picked up the last pen from the floor and set it in a cup with the others. "Yes."
"Good, now lets steal his personal comm and get out of here."
"How do you even know his comm is in here? Wouldn't he keep it with him?"
"Because he's in an all-day training with the other Captains and he always leaves his personal comm in his room when he’s on duty."
"Mhmm."
"Look, can you just get it? It's in the second drawer on the right, the key is wedged in the seat cushion of his chair where it's ripped a bit."
"You couldn't even get the key out before you toppled everything over in the room?"
"I'm blind, okay? I tripped on the footlocker by the door and lost my balance because—"
"You can't feel your leg, I know."
"Thank you, now can we hurry it up? I don't know what time it is but I feel like it's getting close to end of the training."
"Training let out at 1600 and I took my personal comm with me today."
Even though she had a blindfold on, Barriss knew Ahsoka's eyes had widened to saucers, probably because Barriss' own eyes were wide with a mix of horror and humor. This definitely made up for the brain worms.
"Captain! Didn't see you there," Ahsoka said loudly. It might have been smooth if the situation was... well, not what it was.
"Yeah, I got that."
Barriss finally stood from where she had been kneeling next to the desk chair and looked curiously at the key she'd just fished out of the cushion. "Ahsoka, you can probably manage the situation from here, right?"
Ahsoka's lips were pursed so tightly that it looked painful. She gave a tiny, furious shake of her head, which Barriss ignored.
"Excellent." Barriss stepped around her carefully and brushed past Captain Rex still frozen in the doorway of his own quarters, pressing the key to his desk drawer into his hands as she did so. "Captain," she acknowledged formally.
"Commander Offee," he replied automatically, and stepped aside fully so she could exit.
"See you later, Ahsoka! Make sure to tell Captain Rex all about—"
Ahsoka's indignant screech of embarrassment and rage was the last thing Barriss heard before the door slid shut. She smiled to herself, satisfied that she could be of help to a friend in need, then walked down the corridor with a new spring in her step.

“I don’t know if it's the human or the Twi’lek in you, but you are gross,” Ahsoka told the babbling child on the changing table. And then just to drive the point home, she cooed down at him, “Mister gross pants full of muck, that’s who you are!”
Chopper whirred quietly but threateningly from the corner of the room where she'd banished him after too many of his unsolicited and not-so-helpful hints.
Ahsoka kept her smile on the baby but directed her words to the droid. “And until your murderous rust tank over there can pitch in and wipe some goo off this baby, he doesn’t get to talk. Isn’t that right, mister muck bucket?”
Jacen giggled as she tickled his round little belly and the droid’s electroshock prod slowly withdrew back into his central chassis. She heard some low mutterings too, but decided not to think about what kind of curses in binary he was promising her.
She smiled down at the baby. “That's what I thought.”
A different low chuckle reached her ears then. Ahsoka bit her lip. She finished fastening a fresh diaper on the baby, then snapped up his onesie to redress him.
“All done!”
Jacen giggle-screeched in response, and then wrapped his pudgy arms around her lek closest to him when she scooped him up into her arms. Once she’d put everything away on the changing table, Ahsoka finally turned to see Rex leaning casually against the door frame watching them.
A lazy smile pulled at his lips as he said, “Chopper, the Ghost is having trouble syncing to the base’s main computers. I was asked to see if you could do anything to fix the issue.”
If he could have narrowed his eyes in suspicion, Ahsoka was sure Chopper would have. He whomped skeptically at Rex, but rolled past him out of the room and down the hallway.
Rex let out a breath when he was gone. “That should keep him busy for a minute.”
Ahsoka laughed. It felt odd to have tiny hands holding onto her lekku, like the sound of her own voice rung inside her head and then vibrated against the tiny fingers. But it was also nice to feel needed by the tiny person those tiny hands belonged to, even if it was just because she happened to be the one to hold him.
“You weren’t in our room when I got back,” she began, “so I found Hera, and then she had to run an errand up to the orbital command ship so I volunteered to watch Jacen, which apparently also means getting Chopper as a chaperone...”
Rex pushed himself off the doorframe and stepped into her space, nodding along to her explanation. He rested a hand under her back lek, and the other he set on her hip below where she had Jacen propped. His forehead lightly dropped to her own, and he tilted his head from side to side so that their noses brushed each time.
“I’m glad you’re home, Ahsoka.”
Then his lips found hers and it finally did feel like home. She leaned into him, her shoulders finally relaxing from their tense state as she lost herself in the simple kiss.
He broke away suddenly, his forehead instinctively going back to its previous position against hers, and peered down at the boy in her arms.
“Sorry, buddy. Didn’t mean to be rude,” he told the baby. Rex winced as his beard was pulled again by tiny fingers. Jacen laughed.
Ahsoka chuckled as she nuzzled Rex’s cheek. “I’m glad to be home too.”

Day 12: Lifeday
@12-days-of-rexsoka
COMING HOME: Chapter 8
Rex took a long deep breath and exhaled slowly in an unsuccessful attempt to calm his racing heart. He pulled into the airport and made his way to the arrivals gate.
Ahsoka was coming home–for good this time. Rex could hardly contain his excitement. Long-distance relationships were no joke, and it had been hard for him to be so far away from Ahsoka for the last few months. But the distance hadn’t pulled them apart. It had only made Rex more certain that he never wanted to live without her again.
He pulled over when he saw her, his heart rate skyrocketing. Parking as fast as he could, he jumped out of his jeep and ran to her.
“Rex!” she said, running to meet him halfway and throwing herself into his arms.
Rex swung her around. “I missed you so much, ‘Soka,” he said, setting her down and reaching up to tangle his hand in her hair.
Ahsoka stood on her toes and kissed him. “I missed you too,” she whispered against his mouth.

Day 12: Lifeday
#12DaysofRexsoka
Tumblr media
Ahsoka was never one to celebrate Lifeday. At least, not during the war and especially not since the rise of the Empire. She was always too busy, moving from one safe house to another. At least that’s what she told herself when the silence and loneliness found her alone on a day everyone was meant to be with those they love most.
Which is perhaps why she couldn’t help but want to do something small to recognize the holiday this year. It was the first year she could remember in a long time being able to spend it with someone she called a friend, and well, it was Rex. It was the first time in over a decade that she and Rex were in the same place and in contact with one another.
She didn’t want to take it for granted.

remember when
Day 2 prompt: just like old times || memories
Summary: Rex didn't realize how everything had changed. But at the same time, nothing changed.
Only the sounds of heavy breathing and faint bird caws filled the air. Rex sharply watched every movement Ahsoka made. A tiny step to the left, a shift of the arm. He knew how she fought. Ahsoka would study the person, marking their weak points with her eyes alone. Then with a surge of power, she would strike lightning-fast, catching the other person's opponent off guard.
Well, she’d catch other opponents off guard. Not him though.
