                  You sighed and closed your eyes, repressing a groan of frustration as the shrill ringing of a fire alarm in the hallway outside your apartment disrupted your bedtime routine.  It was just after midnight and you had to work in the morning, and while you did feel a little bit of anxiety over the potential of an actual fire, you were mostly annoyed at what was more than likely yet another false alarm.  You were used to them by that point - you lived in an older-style building and the alarm system was on a hair trigger; you’d been through it all at least a dozen times before.  Nevertheless, you grabbed a hoodie from your closet and slid it over your pajamas before heading out of the bedroom in search of your cat carriers.
