“MOMMA SURPRISE WE ARE HERE!”
The cheering children stood in the foyer, hardly waiting for the couple to make it through the doorway before announcing their presence.
“We brought SahSah, he missed you.” Hope, seated on the rather chubby lion, waved one arm in the air.  “We also brought dinner for Uncle Tristan and his men..”
“ - People.”  Haven corrected as she bounced forward, heavy black braids plunking against her back with the movement. “Everyone is cleaning up, we get to stay the night.” She kidnapped her mother from Burrich, earning him an amused glance from their golden-eyed escort. “Noblegarden is a success this year, you should have seen Sir Folcard -”
“Did you remember to send Noblegarden greetings to the Ashbanes?” Rose curled her arm around her daughter’s shoulder, chatting as they walked.
“I did forget - we were so busy with the festival” Haven sighed. “But we did send a huge basket of Noblegarden treats to daddy and Alisena.”
“We shall make amends...” The huntsman didn’t get much time to stew in his abandonment, Harmony’s hand found his and with a tug, they took the lead in the dinner walk that brought the group from the foyer to the dining room. Unlike Southwatch, the dining room was not a hall but was still a large enough room so that a larger group of people could sit together to eat.
“DINNER!” Hope passed them, seeking out a place at the prepped table.
“What is it?” Rosemarri paused to take in the round bread platters positioned on the table.
“Pizza…” She chirped. “Isn’t it lovelyyyyy? You eat it with your hands.” “Ew..” Harmony remained at Burrich’s side for a moment longer before she ventured forward as well. “This one has Pineapple on it..”
“I loooveee Pineapple!” "Ew.. this one has..." "Harmony, there are like twenty here. Pick one!" Haven settled down, scowling at her sister. Pizza night!

“ Are you crazy?” Both forms spilled from the darkness but unlike hers, his shadows clung to him like leeches, pulling and holding until they had no more strength to fight against the living realm. He hissed as they released, and she made a mental note to ask him later if they hurt when they let go that way - but for now, she fought against the sicking desire to return to where they had just come from. Her shoulders hunched as she breathed through the pull of oblivion and madness.
Both of them rested on their hands and knees, heads lowered and the lantern flickered nearby.
“I think so..” She breathed the words before she turned her head to look at him. “I was not sure you could hear me - I .. “
“We can all hear you when you are there, I think.” Sarven glanced around them once before he sprawled on the ground, face down and limbs spread. They were just outside the ruins that she had run from - she hadn’t gone far. Just ahead the stiff legs of the horses could be seen, dead. They had been executed mid-kidnapping.
Her head hurt.
She let her body sink to the wet ground, her cheek resting on her arm, and closed her eyes.
“Why..” He grunted from somewhere nearby. “My lady, why…”
Surely they would all ask the same thing and she was instantly sorry for the danger she had put herself and him into. “There were pirates… they attacked us here. I was trying to move through the shadows like you can, but I failed. I took her right into the veil.”
“Who?” His voice was sharp. “I didn’t see anyone else.”
“Yelena - I was.. I was trying to stop us from being taken by pirates. They took Burrich and Tristan. The- they killed the horses and there were bangs - like explosions that made it so I could not hear.”
“I didn’t see anyone else…” He spoke slowly, repeating himself.
“I pushed her out..” Her eyes flicked open to focus her stare on him. “I just let her go.”
He was staring at her, whatever he was thinking was locked behind a void stare. His eyes were pitch in color, the blackness eating away at the whites of his eyes. She knew hers would match.
“Everyone is gone, I do not know how much time has passed…” She felt the rainwater seeping into the front of her dress and groaned softly, attempting to get herself off of the ground.
“Where are you staying?” He was faster, one hand gripping her arm to help her stand while the other collected his lantern to gingerly settle it back into the hooks at his waste.
“The other side of the city, there is a camp…”
“We need to report them taken, the longer we take the harder it will be to track them.”
It was going to be a long walk. Her naked toes wiggled on the ground - when had she lost her shoes?
He set a brisk pace and when he was sure she could keep up, he broke into a jog.
Titans and helheim.
It took over an hour to get back to the camp area that Sayage had staked as his. She stumbled once as she passed the tents, not that it mattered - it would have been the hundredth one.. if she had been counting.
“DARIUS!” She called out, ignoring the odd looks sent her way by faces she didn’t know.
Above her, a bird screamed, dipping so low she could feel the brush of feathers against the top of her head.
“DARIUS!”
Sarven vanished, leaving her to enter the camp alone.
“M’lady!” The aged Knight’s face lost its ruddy color when he spotted her, and again the bird dove down to skim the top of their heads. “What’s happening, where are your shoes.. Where..”
“Pirates.. - “ She gasped and someone moved forward to collect her arm to keep her on her feet but she pulled the delicate limb across her chest to avoid the touch. “Wait.. pirates, Darius. They took Tristan and Burrich and I think Yelena. We road to the cliffs.. “
“The cliffs? Lina go..” The bird he pointed to screamed, some mangled sound of hawk and eagle before she was off. Darius kicked a stool near to where she stood, motioning for her to sit before he pulled someone’s abandoned cloak from its forgotten place near his tent. With a shake, he snapped it and set it over her shoulders.
“Get moving, I want the cliffs searched - Rosemarri tell me everything.”
She fought the wave of nausea that threatened to embarrass her right then and there as the crusty smell of the cloak encased her. “Pirates…” She gagged, one hand moving to cover her mouth. She was going to embarrass herself.
“It’s alright. It's alright – at the cliffs, right? How many?” He hunkered down, listening intently as the camp turned into organized chaos. Horses were saddled and the ground shook as they set to race toward the cliffs.
“I only saw one but heard –” Another gag and she pushed to her feet, letting the cloak fall. “It was an ambush, Darius. I .. I do not know how many.”
He stood as she did, a frown tugging to life. “Forsaken?”
“It was a gnome..” She sounded bewildered.
“I fucking hate gnomes..” He grunted. “I got no one to stay with you…”
“I will go to Dalaran..”
“Yeah. Okay fine. Yeah. How are you – ..”
Before his words were finished the camp came alive with blue and purple twists of magic, like the wind but a visible and violent storm. The arcane twisted, collapsed, and then bloomed larger until a portal was open and from the unknown depths, Sunshield colors could be seen first. Blood red, noble gold. The staves that hummed with checked power emerged next - then the mages.
Araian’s away team, battle mages. Four in total, they spilled from the portal, and for a moment all time stopped. Even the dust in the air slowed to a crawl and that was all that Lyric needed to secure the camp.
“Rosemarri - your crystal.” She announced herself, her golden hair pulled from her face and secured into a severe bun. She matched the others, the robes she wore shimmered with spell threat and power.
“I… “
“Where do we go?” Lyric interrupted, taking note of her lady’s inky black stare, and at once moved forward to touch her matching crystal until both women’s necklaces clicked and the warnings stopped.
“Dalaran, I can explain from Dalaran but we need to hurry. I need the war table.”
“Wha – right.” Darius twisted back to the tent, moving inside to collect his weapons. “Light protect.”
Lyric waited until the mages filed back through the portal with her charge before she eye’d the camp, sighed, and followed. What was Araian thinking letting her come here?

come home little wolf
Tumblr media
Release, a full-body reaction that sent shivers over her skin. As if all worldly problems had been lifted from her shoulders and she was suddenly incorporeal. It was intoxicating. Otherworldly. Her chin lifted, lips parted as her eyes closed, she felt everything- even the brush of her lashes on the delicate skin beneath her eyes. Weightlessness. She lulled her head to the side and when her lashes lifted all color had been swallowed by the welcome home. Black, framed in thick black lashes, devoured the talasite chips that colored her eyes as well as the whites. Darkness swept through the press of figures - ghosts. Death. Dead. The figure closest to her turned into her, offering her a body to cling to - though one bony hand rose slowly.
Her fingers splayed, almost releasing Yelena.
Yelena?
Time.. time meant nothing, not here. She let her stare drift to Yelena, blinking slowly as she cemented her existence in her thoughts and reality before she returned her attention to the figure and its finger. She just wanted to sleep, to close her eyes again and just exist with the rest that pushed closer, crowding until she could feel Yelena bump against her side.
‘Little wolf…’ A voice curled like a touch around her fragile neck, seeping into her skin and thoughts. ‘Come.. come…’
Run. The figure next to her had no lips, just an eternal grin that hissed in her ear. Run. Run. A sharpness found her chin, the point of one body finger that directed her sleepy stare.
Bishop. He towered over the rest of the souls, souls that parted to allow him as he approached.
She didn’t just let Yelena go, she shoved her and once the veil let the other girl go, she twisted about to run.
‘Come to me..’
‘…Come to me, little wolf. Centuries have passed, lifetimes have come and gone. It is time to begin anew…”
An arm curled around her as she tried to shove through the collection of death that was too close, they pressing in to hold her in place. Her lips parted to scream but the arm cinched, squishing the air from her and suddenly a light stole the veil from her eyes.
Sarv.

The horses… if they could just get to the horses they could get help while Burrich and Tristan fought for – oh titans. Her heart thundered in her ears as she ran, one hand holding onto the stumbling Yelena and the other hiking her skirts up high, knees exposed as she raced towards the….-
She slowed to a stop so suddenly that the girl she dragged along behind her cracked into her back. She could hear nothing, whatever had detonated had taken her ability to listen but she watched as the horse's heads swayed dramatically, lifting high into the sky with mouths open in a silent scream.
Dead. The horses were dead.
She whirled around, her arm curling about Yelena’s shoulders as she summoned forbidden shadows and vanished, taking her sister into the veil.
To me.

Uldum - World Faire Camp
Tumblr media
Ramkahen, capital city of the desert wonder that is Uldum. Once upon a time, the city had been locked away from the rest of the world - a single purpose kept it sheltered and unknown but when the ancient protections broke an entire desert and all of its wonders were gifted to the rest of the world. Over a decade later, the once kingdom begrudgingly welcomes to its city the World faire - an event bringing thousands of people daily into the sandstone markets
“Momma, I was thinking..” Hope skipped through the camp located just outside of the capital’s main buildings. Easily the clump of war tents stood out, stark against the brilliant sky and muted sands. Though positioned near others who could not find lodgings within the desert city, the dark fabrics burdened with house symbols kept the others from creeping too close. By the third day of the faire, the gaggle of Sunshield women had abandoned their kingdom-appropriate attire and donned clothing better suited for the heat and sun.  “Papa wouldn’t say no if we brought home a camel or three. Three would be reeeeeeeeally nice.”
“What a novel idea, Hope. But I suspect the poor things would grow bored in the fields of Westfall, do you not think?”  Rosemarri perched upon a sandstone hunk, and like the others, her stiff clothing and bulky skirts had been abandoned in favor of a different kind of layers to protect her skin and to keep her from overheating. Trinkets from the faire hung from her wrists and clutched her ankles, tinkling merrily with each movement that she made. Before her, Harmony settled in the sand, legs crossed and bare toes buried as her mother carefully parted heavy curls and attempted to twist them into a braid.
“But.. they could also live outside of the desert. Maybe our plains would be interesting to them and they might like having water.”  As Hope sat she leaned forward to collect a small camel figurine from next to the stone her mother had made her seat. What an odd little forgotten thing! As she turned it over in her hand, the old figure crumbled, turning to dust and sand before spilling through her fingers.
“What about four camels?” She spoke again after a moment.
“HOPE!” Harmony laughed. “That is more than three!”
Rosemarri glanced up from her work, surveying the tents and the people within it. Lyric and Varson spoke near the main tent, the mage’s animated hands, and the knight's laugh tattled the conversation a casual one.  Onward, her gaze shifted inside the tent to see two dark heads leading toward each other.  Just near them, Yelena sat, eating a taco and watching the game intently.
“What are Haven and Tristan doing?” She asked, tilting her body a bit so as to get a better look. Since her hands were in her youngest daughter’s hair, the girl leaned as well just in case she needed to spare her own head.
“Oh! They are playing chess, she is explaining to him the use of knights and rogues on the board. I bet he thinks she is a cheater.” Hope laughed, twisting in place to give the pair they were discussing her attention as well. “He is nice, mommy. He will be a good uncle - kinda stuffy like Varsen was when he first came to us… but we have - what is Burrich doing?” She paused, her attention focused on the huntsman who appeared to be talking to a trio of camels on the far side of camp.  “OH! Oh! he is waiting for me.” She scrambled to her feet, sand splattering over the seated pair behind her. “I was just supposed to… COMING BURRICH.” And she was off.
Alone once more the youngest Sunshield twisted about to stare up at her mother. Rosemarri watched Hope rejoin Burrich before darting her attention to Haven and Tristan. A slow exhale was an attempt to relieve some of the pressure that had been building in her chest. The girls were surrounded by strength, titan’s forgive any after their hearts. Her head dipped, her stare darting to the watchful girl and she dropped a loud kiss to her sun-kissed forehead.
“What is behind your eyes, Harmony?” She whispered, leaning back slightly to peer at the girl’s lovely face. It was her father’s eyes that peered back, and a faint frown tugged to life. Was it? No.. his eyes had not been green.
“You have been here before. You traveled all over Uldum without a guard..” She ventured, noting the frown that hinted.
“I have, I came here with your father..” One hand lifted to dust the dirt away from the girl’s temple.
“Alone?”
“That is what married couples do.”
“But with no guards?” She pressed.
Oh. Understanding dawned and Rosemarri left her seat to squish close to her teenager. Once settled in the sand, the stone at her back she curled her delicate arms around the girl. At 13 and the youngest of the trio - her life had not started off the greatest. Dark and horror-filled had been her existence for the first few years, only to be quickly surrounded by a veil-trapped father and the squish of Sunshield guardians. Harmony’s co-dependence on her father’s strength had loosened as she aged but the need was still solid.
“Of course not..” She let one finger dust at the girl’s hairline as she searched the fog of her memories for something, anything. “I loved to travel and your father honored me. I remember the sand in my toes, the feel of the stones, and the freedom the air gives to you - some mix of ocean and desert that I wish I could bottle up.  At the temples the stones glitter with titan magic, you can touch it with your fingers and he took me to touch it – there is something you should know about your Grandfather - he trusts very few with his loved ones. But your father? Your father is wise and clever, and your grandfather trusted him with his people and me.  There was no monster who could stop him, no darkness that could take him, and no mortal that could best him in fighting OR in cleverness. "
“If I asked, do you think he would bring me to touch titan symbols? J-just me?”
“Yes.” She spoke instantly. “Yes, I think he would and you would be safe.” She knew that, even if she could not recall the color of his eyes, she knew that. Another kiss and she glanced Lyric’s way. Lyric took the girls back and forth between the two houses, perhaps word should be sent that the youngest Sunshield wished to adventure.
“Are you ready to go see the booths?”
“In a moment, I like it right here.”
“Me too.”
