Hugo looked around the flat as the man started to speak and then back towards him with an eyebrow raised. God he hated when they went on, he appreciated the theatrics but not when he was the one on the receiving end of it.

At the mention of Bloomsco and the report his head snapped up from where he'd been losing interest and he stared at the other man. "I don't know what you're talking about." Hugo responded.

Nobody knew and certainly not Maria, he'd been very careful about that and if he hadn't been sent off to the arse-end of nowhere he'd have been able to save her as planned. It wasn't his fault, he couldn't have anticipated the double cross, the fact they would keep her, play with her. It wasn't his fault. None of it. It was Bond's fault.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Hugo said again composing himself. Besides what did this man know? Everyone knew that in the romcom it was the steadfast person who got the girl and if Hugo had to wait, well he could, for a while. She would see eventually, eventually she would stop looking and then trying to hide the fact he made her uncomfortable now, eventually she would be able to walk to the shops with him again without a tremor she was trying to hide in her hand. Eventually, there just needed one event to set it off, to rebuild her trust in him. He just needed to show her. Save her.

"Well Jim, I don't know what you're talking about with a Maria." Because there was no point denying his MI6 connections, the man before him seemed to know too much. "But I imagine M is about a big a fan of yours as he is of mine. And as for Bond that golden child definitely needs taking down a peg or two- wait, is that my 1950's Château Lafite Rothschild." Hugo glared at the wineglass and then at the bottle on the side.

Such attitude! That would have to go. “Who am I? What do I want? Why am I here? You might as well ask me what is my favourite colour, how do I like my tea, I'm not going to go on, wouldn't want to hurt your brain too much just yet” he said with a slight twitch of his lips. Yet another soul who needed to be taught their place, but this one could be very useful to him. “That report on that little incident with Maria is a very interesting read don't you think? We both have something in common there but not in the same way don't worry, won't have your heart burn anymore than it already is, does it hurt? Knowing you will never have her” he asked cruelly, amusement rather than compassion in his eyes. “You can't get her back, but you can get your revenge on those who took her away from you. I'll give you the resources to destroy Bond and everyone around Maria, and then you can save her, the knight in shining armour. That is the easy way, the other ways are a little more messy….” he said trailing off. “Jim Moriarty, would be surprised if my name didn't come up somewhere, I'm a big hit with M these days” he said with a small chuckle as he took a sip of wine that he had helped himself to.

Was it his fault? Absolutely. Were they shooting on a busy street? Possibly. Should he have been a bit subtler, absolutely. But he'd still got the job done and that's what was important. Jesus Bond got away with stuff like this all the time, then had women dripping off his arm for the privledge.

"Can't you get me a nice nurse in here?" Hugo asked.

"Considering how you got yourself shot? I believe I'm fresh out of that at the moment."

Tanner eyed Hugo with a cold gaze, and didn't even try to mask his annoyance with this man. He had single-handedly given Tanner more work to do in two weeks than anyone else in a long time.

"They weren't innocent, that's the point. It's that age old dilemma, a school bus full of children or a school bus full of criminals, you can only save one and I can guarantee you that people would hate you if you let the kids die."

"Well, good thing it is just a national incident then." He was trying to stay calm. He really was. But it was nearly impossible with this man. This meant another afternoon spent at the shooting range in the basement if he didn't want to jump up and punch him in the face.

"Those were twelve lives. Innocent or not. I understand you had to calculate the risk,” but bloody hell, was he bad at math, “but there would have been another way. One without casualties.”

This man was even more annoying than Bond - and that was close to a miracle. But there was something about his nonchalance, the way he handled things supposedly with not a single care in the world, that unnerved Mallory.

His features remained firm as he glared at him. "Twelve casualties too many," he reminded him coldly. "I told you before - one more misstep and you are out. And this," his brow rose, "was more than a misstep."
