“I’ll believe it when I see it Barton.” Natasha lightly challenges. Hospitals were always hard on the both of them. She understood the desire to either get out AMA or do anything possible to make the hospital stay seem shorter.
She scoffs and her hand flies to her chest in mock shock, “Me? Scared?” she leans forward before gingerly pinching one of Claire’s cheeks, “No, never. Let’s see if you can catch me though. You’re still hooked up to the machines.”
And with that Nat dashes out of the room in a whirlwind of grace to leap down the deserted hallway.
Claire watched as Natasha all but danced out the room - far too graceful for Claire’s current brain to catch up with - with the ball. A second passed and Claire found herself carefully unhooking herself from the machines that beeped and ignoring the IV. She didn’t want to get rid of the pain meds flowing through her veins, not with the broken arm, and when caught the nurses would usually be nicer if she hadn’t removed it.
❝ Natasha, you pain in my butt, ❞ Claire muttered as she slid out the room, bypassing door after door. When she caught her friend, and the ball, she was sure going to give the other woman a pouncing - she was after all the much better shot and Claire was sure that meant so even with the broken arm. ❝ Dodge-ball doesn’t mean hide and seek! ❞ She called after a second, thankful that the halls were deserted where they were.

Upset ?? She wouldn’t use the word upset. She was more than upset, she was angry and she was feeling– destroyed, to say the least. She didn’t know how to deal with that, even though that was something she tried very hard to be prepared for since she was only a kid. The possibility of losing one of them was very high– giving their jobs, she knew she had to worry more than a person of her age probably should. Death was always a possibility. However, she knew they were the best so the worse never really happened. Until that plan. She knew they had to try everything but she also worried that something very bad could happen. And eventually- it did.
how could she deal with her worst nightmare coming true ?? She tried to be prepared, yes but– she wasn’t. Not really.
she’d probably never forget the moment she saw her father was not among everybody else when they returned. In just one minute ( for her ) her life was completely changed. Of course she was happy to see her mother but- losing her father wasn’t easy. And it got worse and worse and worse since then. “ If i wanted to talk– ” She started, trying ( but failing, she knew) not to sound too rude. She wasn’t the only one suffering, she couldn’t act like she was. But she alsou couldn’t be any more polite. “I’d talk. I have nothing to say.”
Claire stared at her daughter, her eyes filled with helplessness as she did so. She wished she could take the pain from her daughter - that there were words she could say that could heal the hurt that her daughter was in. If there were Claire would’ve spoken them before, back when they had first arrived back absent her husband - back when she had first saw the sadness in Scarlett’s eyes. But there wasn’t and she couldn’t. So sadness stayed and now, now, Claire felt like a horrible mother for not doing something to keep her daughter heart whole. ❝ Scarlett, even if you don’t want to talk, it’s important to talk. ❞
Fat joke coming from her, but Claire needed this. She needed to hear her daughter’s voice, needed to see her smile, and all the other selfish things that parents forced on their kids all the time that she and Nikolai had decided they were never going to. She just needed to know that her and Scarlett was going to make it through all this; even if they came out scarred and traumatized, they could make it out alive.

11. What occupation did your character want to have growing up? Is this the same as what they wish to be, or are in, now?
Claire wanted S P A C E Claire had always loved space - her mother had told her stories about the stars to distract her and Barney from the abuse and pain - and so she had always wanted her job to be like an astronaut or astronomer. Her love for space led her to learn everything she could about the stars and the planets and the universe and it’s why she will occasionally just put on a space documentary and listen to it while training. She’s a bit disappointed that she doesn’t have much to do with the stars - she always wanted to live among them - but she’s okay with her current job.

They’ve been sitting in the dark of her apartment for the past ten seconds in silence, watching a tiny video clip on her phone. Three men are arguing in silent black and white, then shoving, then a gun is drawn, when a lone woman, who up until this point had been sobbing in a nearby car, suddenly stops crying, breaks into a malicious grin, and unleashes a sudden rush of fire, radiating outwards and incinerating them in seconds. Ten pass, in pure silence, when Claire speaks up, and a soft sigh escapes Ashley in response.
“Tell me about it. That poor bastard really thought he was going home with his wife. Then she goes all raging inferno on him and clears the block.” Refilling their coffees, she gives a weary hum, then gestures to the pyrokinetic on the screen. “Right. She’s AWOL, yeah? I’m figuring you need back-up?”
CLAIRE PAUSED TO TAKE a drink of her coffee before she nodded, ❜ I’ve been trying to track her since that video came out and just recently got a lead I’d feel better if I had someone competent with me. ❜ Which is where Ashley came in. It was best to go on a job like this one with someone who could handle it better than she could alone.
❜ plus ❜ Claire began with a bit of a smile on her face, belying the fact that she was uncomfortable with the mission at hand - uncomfortable at the idea of having to chase someone who was very obviously unstable. Claire didn’t know what was wrong with the pyrokinetic woman; perhaps she had had a bad day and the fighting had triggered her or perhaps she had been faking the tears before seeing her chance to go crazy, but whatever it was, it had left a lasting impression on Claire and she wanted to get the mission done as soon as they possibly could. ❜ We can use this as a fun vacation away from everything if we find her quick enough, we can stay in the city for a couple days and hey, doesn’t that sound fun? ❜
