Week 11 Social Media and China: A Case Study

In this last week topic on blog post, I will discuss more about strict rules for social media that the users in China need to abide especially the great firewall of China and what happen in there, and also we need to consider whether the system is to strict or not.

What is the great firewall of China?

Since China has the largest internet population in the world with a strict and complex censorship system that is known as The Great Firewall. The founder of this censorship system is named Fang Binxing or also known as “Father of the Great Firewall. China has around 854 million of internet users which is half times larger than the entire population in United States. Unfortunately, most of the citizen are not able to access to the world’s most popular website due to the strict and complex system that block their access (Shen, 2019).

What is the purpose of the system?

According to Heaven (2019), the great firewall of China act as system that block and censorship a website on the China server to prevent them spreading bad influence to China’s citizen. So far, the system has banned many popular website and browsers from other country such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other Websites that are popular around the world. It is not hard for anyone to reach out or use the banned websites or browser by using Virtual Private Network (VPN) to access them without the system detecting it. However, China also make an imitation of popular browsers or websites that they can control easily and monitor the activity of their citizen. These imitation of browsers and websites are popular in China such as Baidu act as google chrome, Qzone act as Facebook, and Youku Tudou act as YouTube (Degennaro, 2019).

An example of that the system used to ban people who makes joke about president in China

Personally, I am a fan of famous youtuber in the world named PewDiePie and I really like that in his meme review and commentary video that discussed the Hong Kong protests. In the video, he stumbled upon people that makes meme which compare president of China named Xi Jin Ping with the looks of honey-loving bear Winnie the Pooh and I really like his reaction on that meme (Leskin, 2019). The reason for his support on the meme is because he supports the Hong Kong Protest.

On the next day, the reaction of PewDiePie stated “Well boys, we did it,” and “I’m banned from China…After I spoke about the Hong Kong protests and showed their leader being mocked for looking like Winnie the Pooh, I got banned from China.”. Another response from him that said “Now if you search anything PewDiePie-related on any Reddit related forum in China or a YouTube related video, it will just be completely blank. I’m laughing, but I’m sorry if you’re in China and try to watch my videos. That kind of sucks.”. He felt guilty that his fan cannot watch his video anymore in China and see his reddit meme but all of that can be avoided by using VPN service (Evans, 2019).

To summarize, China is a communist country so the citizen cannot do much things about the censorship system and the only thing that they can do is protest but it will violate the law and most of them will be punished. If the country itself change it system to democracy, there will be a chance that China can introduce back the popular website into the country again. We hope that this changes can come into reality and definitely the people will be happy for the changes.

Week 10 Social Gaming

This particular topic this week is one of my favourite topics since I like to play a game that is either a pc game or a mobile game. I like many types of games, from adventure, shooting, and strategy games. However, my favourite one is the shooting game, especially first-person shooter, because it is enjoyable, challenging, and improves my reflexes as I play the game. It also enables me to find a new friend online and build more connections online. This week, I want to discuss more about gaming, toxicity in gaming, and the benefit of gaming for us gamer and society.

What is gaming? 

Rouse (2016) communicated that usually people associated gaming with the word “gambling” but the word itself mean more than and yes I agree some game may have related to gamble system because most people have limited knowledge toward the game. So far, they expose only to see gambling game. I can assure you that their many types of games, and not all of them negatively influence society and people who play the game. Nowadays, gaming's popularity is rising, and game development also improved significantly and introduced many types of games with rules set by the developer to guide the communities in the game in the right direction.

The benefits of gaming for kids and adults

As indicated by Living (2020), there are lots of benefits to gaming. The three main benefits are that it stimulates your brain to be healthier, gamers can develop problem-solving skills when playing puzzles game, and games can reduce stress. The other benefits will be game can improve your manual dexterity, which can improve your advanced performance and made a fewer mistake, it can also improve your social skills by talking with other gamers online, improve your speaking skill, and games also inspire you to be more persistent in trying to achieve more than you already did and learn from your mistake until you reach your goal. I gain some benefits from my gaming experience, such as improving my reflex, speaking skills, social skill, and reducing my stress when there are many work overloads.

Types of games

These are the three types of games that I interested in (Vince, 2018)

1. Adventure games

2. Strategy games

3. Action games

Are gaming communities becoming more toxic environments for some (e.g., women, LGBT communities, ethnic minorities)?

Firstly, we need to know what toxicity is in gaming. Toxicity means that the expression of feeling of anger or frustration that gamer hold and they used it to blow off some anger toward other players as this always happens in many competitive games (Grimmuk, 2019). We will get emotionally happy if we win the game, but some people will get frustrated and angry when they lose the game, depending on whether they can handle the stress. In many matches within the games I played, most players will be toxic when they lose and blame their team for being a burden. Even a winning game can make a player become toxic and say other teams are a noob and say it is an easy match that triggered other teams to be toxic. This is the thing I hated when I played the game.

Next, I will discuss what kind of toxicity happen when I played the game. I have met a lot of toxicity in many games, and I can tell you that every game will always contain toxic gamer inside whether they are racist towards women, children, and even black people. They can become toxic toward newbie who is new to the game and ask them to delete the game or give up with games because pro gamers considered them burden to the team and lose the game. I am a little toxic, but I am toxic toward gamer who bully newbie, toxic toward cheater who ruins the game mechanic, and I also do not really like people who are racist toward others. I want to defend and support others who cannot defend themselves in the game and dislike people who ruin the game's fun.

In my opinion, please respect each other when playing a game and never judge other people's skills and have fun at the game. When we encountered toxic people who bully others, try to remind them not to be toxic, and if they do not listen, just leave it be. My suggestion if we met a gamer who bullies newbie, we need to try to defend them and tell them to chill out because it is just a game. Do not be toxic, guys.

Week 9 blog post: Fandom

In this week blog post, I am going to discuss about fandom, what types of fandom that people involve when they start to take interested in them, and the impact on people who get involve in. I believe that everyone of us has ever been a fan of something or someone at least once in their life even some of us will not clearly admit it and keep it as a secret to themselves. It is not wrong to become a fan of someone and as most people say they are fan of an idol because the idol become their guidance and motivation to stay strong when they feel lost or desperate. I am personally a fan of cartoon especially SpongeBob and recently I become a fan of Lucifer in Netflix. Hence, I am going to discuss all of this matter in detail.

What is fandom?

According to Cambridge (2020), fandom is where people come together in a community who in a state of being a fan of someone or something especially a very enthusiastic one. Fandom is really broad when you really thing about since fan can idolize almost anything or anyone and we cannot see from one perspective but from every angle of it.

What is the benefit of fandom?

There is saying “do what makes you happy” that can make you emotionally and physically happy from doing what you like because you are stress free and be optimistic towards everything. As communicated by Stribling (2017), fandom is only related to film, cartoons, idol but it can also involve in watching sport event and being a dedicated sport fan can actually improve your health and give some positive health benefits because a strong bond and relationship with your close friends when you cheer for the same team, it can inspire you to exercise or work out to be like you sport idol, and it provides you with entertainment as well as reduce your stress while you are cheering. It is not important whether your team is winning or not because as your cheering for your team, it already reduce depression and act as a self-esteem booster in the process.

Fandom can also be the place for fan to show off their creativity and skills in drawing artwork and some people are willing to pay for artwork in their chosen fandom. As they could see as an opportunity to be a freelance work or side job for anyone with high-skilled artistry skills and being paid to draw for others is not bad thing after all (Marie, 2020). However, there is some artwork that are not safe for children to view if kids are interested in fandom activity, parents must to monitor their children before viewing some art since many people consider it as Not Safe For Work (NSFW) art with age restriction. Kid can be fan if they are properly educated and well-prepared before entering the fandom community.

What are the types of fandom?

I am going to pick 3 popular fandoms that popular across the world (Tens, 2020).

1. Harry Potter Fandom

2. Anime Fandom

3. Star Wars Fandom

Are media representations of fans as ‘weird’ and ‘overly emotional’ fair? What is your own experience of fandom?

In my opinion, I am not really sure about fan being weird or overly emotional when use the social media to express their feeling related to someone or something since I never get involved in any fandom until now but one thing for sure do not judge people if we did not what they are getting through in their real life. This people come together in a fandom community is a bunch of people that understand each other supporting each other and give motivation to move on. Hence, what I can say is that being fan is not wrong at all because in fandom you can also share your experience with other and share tips on how to overcome them, express your creativity through drawing artwork, and accept each other without any discrimination.

Fandom can be either healthy or toxic depend on the people of fandom and how can we differentiate it between the bad and good one. A good fandom has a bunch of supportive personality toward each other and be collaborative toward certain things. They also work to build each other up. On the other hand, toxic fandom is other way around, the fan attack others fan with criticism that contain emotional terms and they like abuse other fandom. They often feel tell that they are the “true” fans while consider other fans are faked, imposter, or just casual fan. Toxic fans are not just considered as party pooper but dangerous and they want to bully people for the fun of it (Lefler, 2020).

In conclusion, being a toxic fan is not good way for people to involve in since it will ruin other people fun and life and remember do not be toxic toward other people please and there will be karma waiting if you do that.

Week 8: Crowdsourcing & Crowdfunding

This week, I will mainly focus on crowdsourcing since I am not really familiar with it while I have seen many crowdfunding activities on the internet so I am already familiar with it. That is why I am just focusing on what is crowdsourcing, the activity that the community does with crowdsourcing, and what is the objective of crowdsourcing. Hence, I am going to dive deep into the crowdsourcing theme in this week's blogpost.

What is crowdsourcing?

As stated by Hargrave (2019), crowdsourcing is the activity that involves internet users from around the world to submit their information, opinions, or work in a form of data into the internet, social media, and mobile phones app. The person that usually does crowdsourcing such as paid freelancers and people who are volunteer to perform a certain task. The objective of crowdsourcing is to find useful information or work product which can be shared with other people to used it for their own purposes. For example, traffic apps that are used for people to report roadway accidents to the authorities and provide real-time information to the users.

The benefits of crowdsourcing

There are various reasons why people need to use crowdsourcing such as it can help people with an unexpected solution for tough problems, greater diversity of thinking, faster problem solving, and reduced management burden (Fournier, 2019). Besides that, companies nowadays utilize crowdsourcing for searching for talented and skilled workers on the internet without incurred any overhead cost. Not only that, but crowdsourcing also helps companies to raise capital for a special project which is very popular nowadays.

Companies that utilize crowdsourcing and innovate with it

Crowdsourcing is a valuable way for some companies to use the feature for their own advantages and it is considered as a way to improve their marketing strategy as well (Box, 2020).

In an era filled with fake news, what effect can this have on crowdsourced information?

In my opinion, since there are many fake nowadays, I have trouble in trusting every news that I read online and came across especially when my parent keeps sending information in my family group WhatsApp. To ensure that I did not blindly trust the news, what I can do is searching from other sources and compare before proceeding to believe in it. This is the kind of issue that I hate the most because people tend to just believe it without any proper clarification and this happens to parents as well but I keep reminding them to clarify it before sending it to the WhatsApp group. To make it clear, just related to “think before you speak” that is almost the same when you read the news.

Carufel (2019) communicated that fake news is not a new problem in the internet community because it has happened repeatedly in the past years and it has become a major concern in social media because fake news can be easily created and distributed easily. There has been some measure that can be used to fight the spread of fake news but unfortunately, it does not prove to be very effective because even a system name fact-checkers cannot keep with the rapid creation of false stories. Correspondingly, the misleading news that passes through the checking system has been considered as accurate news which is kind of scary since many people will spread the news when they stumble upon it. 

However, researchers did not give up there but they find out that crowdsourcing is the key to combat fake news effectively since fact-checker is not reliable as it used to be. What they do is asking people with different genders, ages, ethnicities, and politician affiliations to rate the news sources based on their knowledge in three different categories which are mainstream media outlets, hyper-partisan websites, and websites that produce fake news. They also asked professional fact-checkers the same questions to compare responses and make the conclusion out of the questions. In the surveys, many people trust reputable news outlet that the one that creates misinformation and many of them suggest to identify the news themselves rather than trusting fact-checkers because they believe all of us are good in differentiating which is fake or not but some of them still depend on the outlet that they already trust for a long time (Daniel, 2019).

To conclude, please check the validity of your information before you spread or send it to your friend or maybe ask for their opinion before sending it to others.

Week 7: Public Health Campaign

All of us as a human always worried about the health condition of our mind and body every day as well as the wellness of our loved one. We as a human always try to anticipate the illness from destroying our health before going into the worse state of the illness and we would pay extra to keep us healthy and even do a check-up regularly with the doctor or buy medicines. This why public health campaign is important for all of us to be aware of since it can be beneficial for us to use it as information on how to prevent and tackle the disease with proper action. Before discussing the main issue of a public health campaign, we need to understand what is the purpose of it and what it does for us?

What is Public Health Campaign?

Public Health Campaign is a way to raise awareness and to understand about critical health issues and mobilize support as an action to support people with sickness or illness (WHO, 2020). This will improve the health knowledge, attitude, skills, and behaviour of individuals, groups, and communities. The purpose of this is to influence the health of individuals and communities to live a healthy lifestyle as well as the living and working environment that also influences their health.

Why is Public Health Campaign important?

According to Georgia (2020), Public Health Campaign can improve the health status of individuals, families, communities, states, and the nation. Besides, it can also enhance the quality of life for all people and reduces premature death. By focusing on prevention, it can reduce the cost for people when they want to spend on medical treatment.

Is social media useful in spreading Information on COVID-19 in Malaysia or your home country?

In my opinion, social media help me keep tracking the spread of COVID-19 in my home country in Indonesia because I can utilize it to prevent me from going to places where it has a high rate of infected people that visit the places. As indicated by Garza (2020), social media can help the authorities to take fast measure to blockade certain area with a high cluster of infected people that gather in one place because people can share and report at the same time on social media so the authorities can respond to the report. Social media such as Facebook or Twitter become a place where people gather to discuss the coronavirus outbreak that happens in different place and time. 

Unfortunately, social media has never been used to discuss the previous major outbreak. With the real-time information at our fingertip, we can use it to make a smart decision but at the same time, it also makes us anxious about what’s to come as many experts say. It is proven that social media can help many people who are isolated from one another by sharing each other with useful information and tips during the pandemic.

However, social media can also promote other health issues besides COVID-19 such as World Heart Day, CDC’s Tips for Former Smokers, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, etc (Howard, 2018). By utilizing a cross-section platform, public health entities will be able to combat fake news, rumors, and encourage people to share their feedback and engage by sharing the information with others.

On the other hand, the rate of media consumption in Indonesia is reaching the highest during the COVID-19 pandemic. The media includes TV and mobile phones which is clearly stated that the TV viewership news program is going up 25% and the viewership on kids' audience reaches the highest rating at 16.2%. Indonesia people use mobile phones to purchase vitamin and supplement products to boost their immune system and prevent them from getting infected with COVID-19 which contributes more than IDR20 billion of total digital ad spending. With the increase of COVID-19 cases, health issues are becoming a major concern of the public. Hence, many industries especially related to vitamins and medicines product want to catch the opportunity to increase their sale by increasing advertising spots in electronic media such as social media and TV (Tam, 2020).

Social media can also be a place where people share fake news and conspiracy theories as this happen mostly in Indonesia which was related to spread information that says COVID-19 is not harmful as we thought and it was shared by a famous singer named Jerinx. Jerinx tweeted that “Come on Indonesia, stop being a coward. This virus is not as dangerous as your perception that has been shaped by the mainstream media. Go to the streets. Demand the government to return life to normal and be a dignified people once more. Independence! Or die!”.

Indonesian users quickly responded with their opinion in regards to his dangerous idea and some have also criticized his seeming misplaced crusade against the “global elite” (Sheany 2020).

In conclusion, I am as an Indonesian always has a principle whenever there is information that I stumble upon, I will check the validity of the news or information before putting the trust in it and even sharing it with my families and friends. Fake news is the enemy of many since it can lead people to destruction and make to do bad things so it is best for all of us to check the validity of the information before trusting it.

Week 6 Digital Citizenship 2: Activism and Protest

When the word “Activism” comes into my head and straightly tells me that it must be related to some kind of activity in our daily life such as working or other things that you do every day. However, it is not the kind of activity that I was expected so I try google it out and do some research on it because I am new to this activism stuff and I have no idea about it. According to Brenman & Sanchez (2020), Activism is a doctrine or practice that emphasizes direct vigorous action especially in support of or opposition to one side of controversial issue and usually this action is done by an individual or a group of individuals. The objective of this activism is to bring a social or political change in the country or city. Furthermore, activism is not complete without a protest which mean there is an expression of disapproval, disagreement, and objection toward something a person is powerless to prevent or avoid.

On the other hand, social activism is working with other people in a change in society. The word “social” is related to society which encourages people in a community to participate in a certain activism and it will not be social if the participation is forced or with a threat. On this post, I am going to emphasize on social activism.

What is the relationship between social media and activism?

The use of social media for activism is well-known nowadays since it can create an awareness through the internet and attract people attention to either participate virtually or physically with the help of social media. Social media and activism have not been separable since the 2010 Arab demonstrations and 2013 where the #BlackLivesMatter hashtag was used for the first time. Hence, both social media and hashtag play an important role in promoting the human rights movement offline such as #LoveWins to #TimesUp to #MeToo (Reid & Sehl, 2020). This also encourages company to promote their brands by supporting the activism done by Colin Kaepernick and Nike did this in 2018 to support his dream and his action during action in creating awareness for police brutality (Beer, 2019).

How might activist use social media in the future?

As indicated by Manuel & Kirk (2017), activism is a concept related to continuous changing with exciting developments that move towards greater “intersectionality”. This social activity tries to attract other activist from traditional to modern one and not all of them will stand alone, they are all connected. With the increasing of human society, activist always come up with different way of thinking and acting every now and then which will change the way they carried out activism through social media in the future. Thus, social media is the best platform for activist to take action in raising awareness, communicating information, making call with other activist to help each other for certain issue. Usually when other activist did not get any information in their social media, other activist will create a hashtag which will help them in searching the information that is related to activism.

Unfortunately, there is a drawback that people to be aware which is law enforcement in across state of U.S have secretly using media spying software that can sweep activist into a web of digital surveillance. The privacy and safety of an activist is at danger which can affect the future of social media activism since many of them can be sent black mails or threats from unknown source (Gonzalez. 2018).

In my opinion, it is best not to deeply involved in activism since we would not know what can happen to us in the future if we get involve virtually or physically but we can at least follow the news of activism and drag the conclusion for ourselves and keep the comment to ourselves without posting it online.

Week 5 Digital Citizenship 1: Politic Engagement

For political engagement, I am unsure what to expect from a political topic since I am not interested in politics whatsoever because I think politics will not be affecting me in my life. Hence, before I start going deeper with the relationship between social media and political engagement. I will start by explaining the meaning of politics in the real world and the relation to social media.

What is politics?

According to Webster (2020), politics is an activity or competition where competing interest groups or individuals for power and leadership as this can be called government. Some people often interpret political activities as dishonest or shameful practices since the main objectives of candidates are to win and gain control over a government.

What is the relationship of politics with social media?

The use of social media for political purposes has been discussed for a long time since it was used by candidates in the election to approach the millennials which are to influence us to vote for one of them. In 2018, Most of the millennials who voted in 2012 are now seniors that have a bad perception of the government and learn their mistake from the previous voting while younger millennials are still new to the politics and did not have any of these mindsets as their precursor. Young millennials use social media as a way for entertainment or debating on who is going to win for the election and also they basically vote based on the candidate who has the most influence over them (Alarcón, 2018). Most of the politicians utilize social media like Twitter and Facebook to promote their election campaigns such as Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and Bernie Sanders to influence young people and adults to vote for them (Gov, 2020).

However, the main downside of using social media such using sly or deceptive tactics to attract more voters for election campaigns such as the Cambridge Analytica Scandal where Cambridge's purpose is to sell the data of American voters to a political campaign to assist Donald Trump and Ted Cruz Campaigns. The other drawback is that there is much fake news is being spread to social media users in a way to make them believe it is real (Bromfield 2018). 

Is politics just about governance, or is it more?

When we hear the word “politic”, the first thing that comes to our mind it will be related to government, democracy, and the presidential election. This what I usually think when I hear politics around me and it makes me wonder if politics can be more than these topics. As indicated by Candela (2020), politic is not limited to only that three areas, it can be more than such as how social inequality groups (class, race, gender, etc.) influences politics, how public personalities, social movements, and trends outside of the formal institutions of political power affect formal politics, and powers relationships within social groups such as families, workplaces, media, etc.

We can take an example of social inequality especially race which can be found in the case of black lives matter. The news discussed that a man named George Floyd was arrested by the officers because he is suspected to pay with a counterfeit bill of 20$ and the employee report it to the authorities. The key to the events is shown in a video where a police bodycam footage record George Floyd is being restrained by the officers as Mr. Floyd said he could not breathe for more than 20 times (Anon, 2020). As we can see from this news, we know that it is also going to impact us in a way what if we were in Mr. Floyd's position and we would think this is an unfair treatment when we are getting arrested in a different way because of our different race. Even this kind of issue gets a negative comment from Trump that tweeted out “when the looting starts, the shooting starts” as a reference from Miami Police Chief Walter Headley in 1967, in response to is aggressive policing policies in black neighbourhoods. Of course, Twitter taking action by labelled the Trump post as a restricted post in regards to that matter and it is still accessible to the public for viewing but with a lot of requirements to access the post (Jones, 2020).

In my opinion to George Floyd's death, I can say that the society needs to put more attention to this racial problem when people racist towards other as this is not a good thing since as a community we should respect each other without looking at their gender, race, and class. Donald Trump as president of America should not be racist toward black neighbourhoods but instead, he should show anti-racism and build a good community where everybody is treated equally. Hence, due to his aggressive comment on Twitter, all I can say that he should not be the president of America, and maybe another person with a sense of humanity and equality is suitable to take his place like Barack Obama for instance. 

Sorry if there is a mistake that is made in my post by me when discussing politics because I have a little knowledge in politics. Hehe XD

Week 4: Is Tumblr a Blog or a Social Network Site (SNS)?

          First of all, I do not know what is Tumblr because it is my first time using it and it makes me wonder whether it is a blog or a social network site so I am going to do some research and digging on the application. Hence, I am going to explain the two terms before going into the conclusion.

What is a Blog? 

        Forsey (2020) expresses that blog is a private or personalized online weblog where internet users have a hobby of sharing their own opinions or information based on their own knowledge in regards to various choices of topics. The first information or journal that they shared will be appeared last while the latest posts will be at the top and the term for this is called the reverse chronological order. Additionally, this platform is can be called a community where a writer or a group of writers come together to show their views or opinions on a certain topic that happens on a daily basis. The writer itself we can refer them as a blogger because a blogger is an individual who shares his or her opinion and knowledge on different topics for other targeted blog users and also the one who runs and control a blog (Skrba, 2020).

           The other purposes of a blog are to use it as a business platform where you can promote and educate your product there to earn money since there is a search engine to help search your post in a blog. As Bavaro (2019) indicated, there are 55% more visitors, 97% more inbound links, 434% more indexed pages when companies make a blog for promotion purposes, and blogs have better marketing results than other methods because blog keeps the content fresh and open to many opportunities. Moreover, Blogs also have the potential to share the company's new information on other social media which can capture a broad audience and expand the company’s market further. Keep in mind that blog is not a tool to sell a product but to educate and promote and if the company wants to sell the product, the company needs to set a link in the blog for the customer to visit the business official website.

What is a Social Network Site (SNS)?

         Social Networking Site (SNS) or social website is some kind of online platform where it allows internet users to create their own personal profile and use their profile to interact with each other on the website. Likewise, Social Networking Sites have a system where it gives permission for people to accept or decline the connection between each other and it also lists down the new user that comes to the network as well as the user who shares a connection with other users. When a connection is established, the new internet users can make even more connections by search it in the networks of connections (Technopedia, 2020). Social Networking Site is not limited to meet new people but it can also help people to stay in touch with family, friends, colleagues, customers, or clients.

           Kenton (2020) communicated that social networking can be used as a social purpose, a business purpose, or both, and the examples of social networking such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc. As time moves on, Social Networking has become an instrument for marketers to promote and sell their products as well as to engage with customers. Marketers use this as an opportunity to interact with new, recent, and old customers by sharing blog posts, images, videos, or comments on social media platforms which allows their followers to comment on the products and also let them visit the company’s website. The constantly evolving social networking makes people and companies need to put more effort to keep up with challenges and changes that happen on a daily basis. Of course, the other benefit of using social networks aside from business purposes is internet users can join groups or clubs that share the same interests or hobbies as well as meet new people at the same time (Claudia 2020).

So what is Tumblr according to my personal opinion?

           As can be seen, I thought at first it is some kind of blogging site where you post a certain topic and give your own opinion about it or some quotes to it because I have heard about Tumblr several times in other social media platform that says it is a blogging site. Since this is my first time using Tumblr that all I know that Tumblr is blogging without even questioning whether it is a blog or a social networking site and without even doing any reading or researching for Tumblr. Tumblr is some kind of platform that connect people into one group as well as a place for the internet user to post their thought and opinion for a certain topic that they interested in. Tumblr has the almost same feature as other social media such as followers, likes, posting, uploading videos or photos, and even chatting systems. All of these features can be found on other social media apps such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Reddit and etc.

           In summary, all I can say Tumblr is mixed of a blog and social networking sites that have been combined into one singular platform where people can freely write their own story, post photo or video, and follow blog or post that they interested in as well as making friends in the process.
