I keep noticing how some artists have been silently leaving the fandom. Like, the kind of artist that’ll make casual posts and usually have an open and welcoming attitude about fellow fans and homestuck by itself.

While I’m sure they leave for their own reasons, I cant help but be aware that these artists may come and go sometimes because of either the stressful environment of the fandom, or get targeted/bullied enough for no real reason to the point that they wanna leave, and their traction on people’s dashes get replaced by other artists (or even just louder blogs in general) who instead make fun of others people’s art and like to passive aggressively critique the artistic expression of other’s in the fandom (from ships, to fave characters, to headcanons, to other things one would dub as cringe culture).

Like, unless some other’s want to shape up and stop being assholes, there’s nothing that can really be done, but I’m just a little sad that we’re left with less positive content creators to look up to around here and more that like putting others on blast and sneering at art habits that other homestuck artists have, all while wrapping themselves in this thin veil of woke purity.

Bloodswap 4/13 Upd8!!

Hey there everyone! Big update incoming! The AU has undergone some huge revamps and there’s a lot to tell! It’s all right here!

Sadly, there’s some bad news.

We’re starting with the bad because it’s some extremely important stuff. But the good news will be right after. Also Kanaya Nitram will be used as an example for stuff because this was drafted by deuce.

Asks!!!!

Your favorite ask blogs can’t survive without asks! We don’t know what kind of content you guys would want if you don’t tell us. Without asks, there’s no content, and no content means no blog! All of our blogs are right here!

Drama.

So. Back in February, we had a fiasco where people were sending lots of Valentine’s Day asks on @ask-cyborg-seamstress and @dualshark , which were…fun in the beginning, but then they got messy. We learned about an ex-matespritship and people started to get aggressive and attack the characters. People began to suggest that Tavros and Kanaya were in an abusive relationship, they began to attack sollux for spilling the beans, and such. We would like to clarify that none of the relationships in this AU are toxic. Serket and Nitram may have had an unhealthy relationship in the canon of homestuck, but our Serket/Nitram relationship is anything but unhealthy. Same goes for any relationship in our AU that correlates to an unhealthy canon relationship.

Drama Part Two.

Just because the canon version of a character is one way, does not mean our version is exactly the same. An example of this would be Kanaya Nitram being Bisexual, or Vriska Megido not being a ghost right off the bat. This is an “Alternate Universe” which means it is not the same as canon.

Character Hate vs. Character Criticism

Telling us that our character is incorrect or just bad in general is completely different than telling us a way of improving our characters.

For example: “Kanaya is a lesbian you idiot” is not something Deuce wants to see. They’d rather see “Hey can we see more content of Kanaya and her female quads?”

How to contact Viz about this whole Hiveswap/Homestuck Situation:

 So you woke up this morning (or this evening, I don’t know your life) to discover that MSPA has been assassinated. In its place is a “refreshed” doppelganger, and swirling rumors that the Hiveswap crew has been let go under unknown circumstances. One option is to panic. 

Another option is to do something about it.

Why should I contact Viz?  And how??

So if you look at it objectively, Viz’s bread-and-butter is buying rights to existing media and marketing it to new audiences. If Viz has invested in Homestuck this heavily, it’s likely they hope to revive it by repackaging it and introducing it to fans who missed out the first time. (Evidence includes the new info page, which includes links to key points in each act as well as outright links to the Wiki.) 

However!  Viz also has a vested interest in not completely alienating the existing fans. Word-of-mouth (and social media influence) counts for a lot in marketing, and they surely wouldn’t want to be known as The Big Bad Who Ruined The Story. The trick is to provide feedback without being so nasty that they abandon the project. That’s unlikely to be good for anyone. Given what we know about Hiveswap’s development struggles, Viz’s financial backing may be necessary to actually complete the game. And marketing the existing story to a wider audience could lead to a fandom revival!  We just want to ensure that 1) the hiveswap folks are being taken care of   2) the existing canon is not censored.
