the worst part about slowly getting iced out of a large friend group based mostly on one or two people in that group isn't the loss of the individual friendships but the loss of the parties

the themed events. the costume parties. the inside joke parties. the powerpoint presentation parties. the get-togethers that only make sense to people who have been friends for a long time. the 'let's get high and watch cats the musical' parties. the ease of weirdness and comfort and laughter in a group setting

#after months of telling my husband i was sure people weren't mad at him and they weren't deliberately trying to leave him out of stuff #....i am now being included in the aforementioned 'leaving him out of stuff' #just sucks because a couple friends in the group sort of control the guest list at any friend group related event #and so im now realizing there is a huge swathe of side friends and cherished acquaintances who i will never see again #you know them #the 'friends' you only ever spoke to at parties #who were friends of the core friends who you were actually friends with #but you really genuinely liked them and just didn't manage to make the transition to being THEIR friend and not just a friend of #a friend #before the original core friend decided you suck now and iced you out of the group #i guess i should just become more active on instagram and try and comment on those friend acquaintances insta stories often enough #that i creep my way back into group events through a sideways avenue #i just feel sad rn #getting flashbacks to being iced out by elementary school friends as soon as we got to high school #ace babbles

the funny thing about no longer id-ing as asexual because the label doesn't feel useful as a descriptor of my sexuality anymore is that i still have so many experiences that i know only the asexual girlies would understand lol

like on one hand i'm open to hook up with anyone but on the other hand people tryina flirt with me are like 'i could kiss for hours' and my instinctive first thought is 'but i would get bored. could we perhaps do something else while we're kissing, like do our taxes? make this productive? kissing for hours is only productive if i intend on dating you and thus forming an emotional and romantic bond, but i already have one romantic partner and desire no others. what do you mean you want to kiss for hours just because you enjoy the sensation. i got things to do'

#wait i just had a thought lol #i wonder if any late-diagnosed with adhd people #id-ed as asexual at some point before their diagosis with adhd #because while some people with adhd are reeeaaallly into sex as dopamine seeking #other people with adhd find it hard to focus during sex and to be frank that's still something big for me #and i think there could be asexual overlap? not suggesting causal relationships just correlation #note: i don't say i used to be asexual or that i had a phase cause i don't believe it was a phase #i think descriptors and labels should be used when useful and not used when no longer useful #and a lot of the asexual experience is still something i vibe with and i value deeply my introspection and time id-ing as asexual #ace talks ace #ace babbles #yes i am making this post because my partner and i hooked up with another couple and im fielding texts from the other man #like i had a good time but also.................im not going to arrange further stuff unless we can make it an outing involving multi-taski #let's motivate each other to get work done on artistic projects and then we can make out again #otherwise what is the point of this extracurricular endeavour #if i want sex i could tap my partner on the shoulder at any time of the day #i am just not interested in other people and yet also i am not opposed as long as other people arrange it and all i have to do is show up

i understand the appeal of publishing "fic with the serial numbers filed off" as original work but i also feel like. what makes something a good fic is at odds with what makes something a good original story.

#I 100% believe this is true #and it’s why I’ve never filed the serial numbers off #because it would leave the fic bereft of meaning #and I would have to rewrite so much to bring back those hidden depths #you can’t take the bones out of a person and expect them to stand as tall as befor3 #a truly great fic is absolutely in conversation with the original material #even if it is to reject stuff about canon that they hate that is still a relationship #that informs the narrative and style of the fic #like one time I used inspiration from characters from a tv show to write an original short story #this is true #but it made me even more conscious of the differences between that short story process #and the process of writing fanfic for that fandom #the results were totally different #I couldn’t write a fic and then change the names #I had to write a short story and as I wrote it I felt and saw the characters change to be #become original characters #because without the referential scaffolding of their original context they had to become characters that existed within the bounds of that #short story #like it would’ve been a BAD fanfic #cause it wasn’t written as such #but it was an okay short story #and that was the diff between using tropes and stuff in other media as inspiration #versus writing fanfic

#well i picked my ao3 username first and the tumblr name 'asymmetric' was already taken soooo #side blog was about boys so i slapped boys on there lol #'why did you pick asymmetric as ur userame' it's because it sounds cool #i grew to like the one word (that is an evocative and maybe unusual word) pseudonym after several writers i admired used it #and asymmetric wasn't taken on ao3 and it felt like...like it suggested my writing would be interesting in some off the wall way #an asymmetrical way lol

sometimes i think about that time i went to a deeply unsexy sex club

picture the lighting and building structure of a frat house, but cleaner and with more beds big enough to span the entire room. also a bdsm room that had way too many harsh light fixtures. the whole place was so well-lit it felt corporate. like you'd be breaking some sort of HR rule if you flirted with anyone. the main bar was right by the entrance, so no one wanted to hang out there, and instead people had to try to get to know each other in the hallways for five awkward minutes before retiring to a room. the aesthetics and flow of the house completely lacked eroticism.

i've truly never been in a place less conducive to getting in the mood for sex, and never had group sex so deeply boring
