👁️UNHOLY WITH EYES LIKE WOLVES RELEASE DAY👁️
My Carmilla/FMC/Elizabeth Bathory vampire horror romance is out now!
“Indulgent, depraved, and sanguine, UNHOLY WITH EYES LIKE WOLVES is a gory fugue that will have readers cheering for its queer women no matter the wrongs they commit in pursuit of survival and salvation.” – Ladz, author of THE FEALTY OF MONSTERS
"Sumptuous and intoxicating as a black rose, UNHOLY WITH EYES LIKE WOLVES unfurls slowly to reveal the intricate layers of its themes, from forbidden sapphic desire to the religious subjugation of women. A must-read for those who yearn to become the monster and seek liberation through transgression." – Camilla Andrew, author of THE SANGUINE SORCERESS
"A slow-burn that lures you into its decadence, UNHOLY WITH EYES LIKE WOLVES unspools like the ultimate gothic delight—and doesn’t shy away from grisly indulgence and debauchery. Morgan Dante is a master of blood-soaked sex, and fans of horror romance will be loath to miss this one." – Tyler Battaglia, PRAY FOR HIM

april; peer the future
Happy April! Hope the sun is shining, and the flowers are blooming where you are :) This month's prompt for the Suck Your TBR Dry Reading Challenge is peer into the future!
Crystal ball, illuminated lights on a ship's dashboard, the unknown, a world we fail to recognize, sentience in machinery, intelligence beyond the human mind. What are the possibilities of the future? Ideas: science fiction, space opera, speculative fiction, ARC/Beta Read, upcoming movie adaptation
Finally am picking back up my reading groove as the sun melts away the winter gloom (metaphorically, it doesn't snow where I live). I am hoping to read a sci-fi book, but I'll have to see what counts, since a lot of my physical TBR is in storage. If no sci-fi, I'll be finishing up a few arcs. Keep an eye out for reviews!
Reminder; you can follow the challenge via storygraph here.
Happy Reading! And share what you've read so far :)

The story of a woman haunted by the ghost of a dead lover whose own pain led her to hurt others. A story about the complex feelings of knowing the partner whose words cut so deep is hurting, too, and not knowing what to do with that grief when she's gone--grief both for the life they lived together, and for a life cut too short.
Anything @whatsuptyler writes is going to be amazing, and this is no exception. Truly a master at the short story, his work is always hauntingly beautiful and jam-packed with emotional weight. Please do yourself a favor and read!

I've been considering posting to this blog with thoughts on what I am currently reading; not as much a live blog but thoughts summarizing how I feel regarding aspects of a text I'm engaging with. A lot of what I am reading is currently non-fiction re: design (specifically graphic design), and oftentimes, I have more mixed feelings versus a much easier rating with fiction.
If I do post, I will use alex reads; to tag these posts if anyone wanted to block the tag.

So, as part of continuing my design education beyond the realms of the classroom, I've been engaging with a lot of critiques of design and capitalism. For the most part, these have been interesting reads but it always astonishes me how a majority of them are 1) written by the very people who benefit from capitalism 2) scared of engaging with the marxist theory that is the foundation of their thesis 3) still emphasize the individual impact over the community impact of design work necessary to bring any remarkable change 4) incredibly inaccessible due to language. I can read pretty dense materials and there are times when I have to stop and think of what the author is aiming at, which is ultimately detrimental to the point being made. What is the intersection of design and capitalism (everything) and how are we actually disseminating these concepts in a way where people with the power to create change actually can engage with it.
It feels as though these designers want to point fingers at others to improve but are scared to enact change. However, I do find them interesting and thought-provoking, so essentially they are successful to the degree of which I intend to use them.

CHARACTER FACIAL EXPRESSIONS (WRITING REFERENCE)
EYES/BROWS
his eyes widened
her eyes went round
her eyelids drooped
his eyes narrowed
his eyes lit up
his eyes darted
he squinted
she blinked
her eyes twinkled
his eyes gleamed
her eyes sparkled
his eyes flashed
his eyes glinted
his eyes burned with…
her eyes blazed with…
her eyes sparked with…
her eyes flickered with…
_____ glowed in his eyes
the corners of his eyes crinkled
she rolled her eyes
he looked heavenward
she glanced up to the ceiling
she winked
tears filled her eyes
his eyes welled up
her eyes swam with tears
his eyes flooded with tears
her eyes were wet
his eyes glistened
tears shimmered in her eyes
tears shone in his eyes
her eyes were glossy
he was fighting back tears
tears ran down her cheeks
his eyes closed
she squeezed her eyes shut
he shut his eyes
his lashes fluttered
she batted her lashes
his brows knitted
her forehead creased
his forehead furrowed
her forehead puckered
a line appeared between her brows
his brows drew together
her brows snapped together
his eyebrows rose
she raised a brow
he lifted an eyebrow
his eyebrows waggled
she gave him a once-over
he sized her up
her eyes bored into him
she took in the sight of…
he glared
she peered
he gazed
she glanced
he stared
she scrutinized
he studied
she gaped
he observed
she surveyed
he gawked
he leered
his pupils (were) dilated
her pupils were huge
his pupils flared
NOSE
her nose crinkled
his nose wrinkled
she sneered
his nostrils flared
she stuck her nose in the air
he sniffed
she sniffled
MOUTH
she smiled
he smirked
she grinned
he simpered
she beamed
her mouth curved into a smile
the corners of his mouth turned up
the corner of her mouth quirked up
a corner of his mouth lifted
his mouth twitched
he gave a half-smile
she gave a lopsided grin
his mouth twisted
he plastered a smile on his face
she forced a smile
he faked a smile
her smile faded
his smile slipped
he pursed his lips
she pouted
his mouth snapped shut
her mouth set in a hard line
he pressed his lips together
she bit her lip
he drew his lower lip between his teeth
she nibbled on her bottom lip
he chewed on his bottom lip
his jaw set
her jaw clenched
his jaw tightened
a muscle in her jaw twitched
he ground his jaw
he snarled/his lips drew back in a snarl
her mouth fell open
his jaw dropped
her jaw went slack
he gritted his teeth
she gnashed her teeth
her lower lip trembled
his lower lip quivered
SKIN
she paled
he blanched
she went white
the color drained out of his face
his face reddened
her cheeks turned pink
his face flushed
she blushed
he turned red
she turned scarlet
he turned crimson
a flush crept up her face
WHOLE FACE, ETC.
he screwed up his face
she scrunched up her face
he grimaced
she winced
she gave him a dirty look
he frowned
she scowled
he glowered
her whole face lit up
she brightened
his face went blank
her face contorted
his face twisted
her expression closed up
his expression dulled
her expression hardened
she went poker-faced
a vein popped out in his neck
awe transformed his face
fear crossed her face
sadness clouded his features
terror overtook his face
recognition dawned on her face

dead darlings tag
Thanks @bitethebard for the tag!
rules: share a part of your writing you love that got cut for the greater good. it doesn't matter if it's a line or a paragraph. it doesn't matter if you might work it back in. if it's not currently in a wip and you want to share, please do.
This scene is was scrapped along with many others when I started re-outlining WCTD. I love the original first chapter with Titania's funeral, but it took place way earlier than the plot demanded, so it was cut as I was trying to link scenes closer together.
It was some odd twist, she mused, that things should end this way. Since Fenice was young— younger than she already was— her mother had shown her love not through the hugs or kisses or other acts of maternal affection most would expect. Love, to Titania, was nothing so mundane as that. Not for the woman who spent the majority of her lifetime taking lives as opposed to nurturing it. Fenice did not know, quite exactly, how to describe it. She had known no other kind of love, after all. Leda had called Titania’s version of love as visceral. Primeval in its rawness, in the blood it promised to spill. And spill it did, her mother’s love. With each and every journey to the Northern Forest, Titania of Taul would draw her bow upon great and fearsome beasts. Only the strong, the fast, the most lively she would catch. The ones who fought the most for life, she slaughtered and brought back to their table. Prayed with bloodied hands and shadowed eyes that the meat she brought, the meat she cooked, would give some modicum of strength to her sickly child.

find the word tag
Thanks @bitethebard for the tag!
rules ; search for the chosen words in your manuscript, post the excerpts containing them, then choose four new words. My words were: hint, archive, embrace, sister ( I didn't have everything so I tried going for whatever word was closest
hint ;
“Between who?” Fenice pinched a slice of the honey-leaf cake from the bronze platter, careful to keep the sweet between the pads of her fingers. As she lifted it, parts of the cake began to flake off, the golden brown layers parting aside to reveal the hint of pistachios within.
archive record ;
“It is benign,” said the head healer. She was a sage woman, with graying hair and fine wrinkles only achievable from a lifetime of rarely smiling, or frowning, or holding any expression at all.  “From our records it is said to resolve on its own given enough time.”
embrace ;
Nike startles, and immediately rushes to envelop Cassandra in an embrace. “What? No, darling, no I—” The words die in his throat, unable to live with a promise he can’t possibly keep.
sister ;
Isandros, that fucking fool. If he hadn’t been so damn high and mighty, so arrogant, so blind to everything except his campaign, maybe they wouldn’t be in this mess. Nike would still be bickering by his side, because apparently being king meant trading your fucking brain for a crown and someone had to rein his brother’s impulses in, and their sister would be happy and safe and they would be together.
Your words are: rift, luck, hold, star

My newest book, Unholy with Eyes like Wolves, a sapphic gothic horror romance with vampires (Carmilla/FMC/Erzsébet Báthory) is coming out on April 16th!
You can pre-order the e-book here.
***
“Indulgent, depraved, and sanguine, UNHOLY WITH EYES LIKE WOLVES is a gory fugue that will have readers cheering for its queer women no matter the wrongs they commit in pursuit of survival and salvation.” –Ladz, author of THE FEALTY OF MONSTERS
***
Noémie, a dishonored and widowed noblewoman in early 17th century Hungary, finds herself in an unenviable position: After grievous trauma and loss, her last chance to regain her honor comes when she must serve as Lady Erzsébet Báthory’s handmaiden. Báthory is stoic and imperious, and as Noémie struggles to acclimate and accept her present and future, she begins to have dreams about a mysterious woman. Worse, there are stories of disappearance and deaths in the castle, and Noémie might be next.
A sapphic historical horror romance with vampires and based on CARMILLA. Perfect for fans of A DOWRY OF BLOOD.
