EAMES COMPACT SOFA BY HERMAN MILLER

Charles and Ray gained inspiration for this design from a sectional seating unit built into their Eames House living room alcove. The design is also similar to the prototype they made for the 1951 wire sofa; however, they adapted the Sofa Compact to use fewer parts, eliminate much of the hand labor, and be less expensive to produce. Comfortable and svelte, yet also strong and durable, the Sofa Compact sits well in homes and office spaces alike. It is available exclusively from Herman Miller in a variety of high-quality upholstery fabrics. When first introduced, the Sofa Compact was shipped as a “flat pack” product. You can see how the back folded down on historical examples. Today, the design no longer folds down; it is sold as a fully upright sofa.

CURVY MIRROR BY GUSTAF WESTMAN

The colorful Curvy Mirror, from Swedish designer Gustaf Westman, has a curved frame of wood, lacquered for a semi-matte finish. Made by hand in Sweden.

PIPISTRELLO COLLECTION BY MARTINELLI LUCE

The Pipistrello Table Lamp was designed by Gae Aulenti for Martinelli as early as 1965 and is a smart design classic. "Pipistrello" is Italian for bat and hints at the design of the Pipistrello Table Lamp by Martinelli. The 55 cm lampshade made of methacrylate reminds us of bat wings and provides pleasantly diffused lighting. The designer Gae Aulenti created an iconic table lamp with the Pipistrello, which convinced with its innovative functionality back then and still does to this day. This makes the Pipistrello Table Lamp by Martinelli a versatile lamp, perfect for large desks in the office or as a little floor lamp in the living room.

RED AND BLUE ARMCHAIR BY CASSINA

A sculptural seat with a pure and rationalist form, this chair became an authentic Manifesto for Neoplasticism, embraced by the Dutch De Stijl movement in 1917. An outlook shared by Piet Mondrian, whose objective was to seek out the essential nature of things, combined with the harmonious equivalence of colours, and the use of right-angle. Rietveld produced his first prototypes in 1918, expressing the philosophy of organising space using the same colours for similar components. He later applied this same approach to separate out constructional elements according to their function. Thus the base was black, and the seats coloured. As a consequence, the name of the piece changed, from Slat Chair to Red and Blue.

NEMO LAMPE DE MARSEILLE BY LE CORBUSIER

Designed by Le Corbusier for the Unité d’Habitation of Marseille in 1949/1952, it is an adjustable wall lamp with two joints on the arm and a rotating wall fixing.

ZIG ZAG CHAIR BY CASSINA

Designed by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld in 1934 and quickly deemed a design icon, the Zig Zag chair is one of the first examples of a cantilevered solid wood chair, formed by four flat pieces of wood joined in rhythmic sequence to create an extremely sophisticated appearance of instability.

EAMES ARMCHAIR LAR BY VITRA

The LAR seems to have been one of Charles and Ray's favourite designs: it can be spotted in numerous vintage photographs of the legendary Eames House in Pacific Palisades – both indoors and out. This also reveals how lightweight the chair is, and how easily it can be moved around.Thanks to its compact dimensions, the Plastic Chair LAR can also be used in smaller interiors, and the wide choice of colours for the shell, upholstery fabric, and base can be coordinated with diverse styles and settings. The steel wire base, which achieves maximum stability with minimum materials, acquired a charming nickname within just a short time on the market as a result of its unusual form: 'Cat's Cradle' – in reference to the children's string game. Due to the organic shape of this classic armchair, the LAR is a striking solo piece, but it can also be paired with many types of sofas to create an appealing contrast. Especially in the version with full upholstery, the LAR offers long-lasting comfort, making this modestly sized armchair an excellent seating option for any living space.

ANT CHAIR DECO PRINT BY FRITZ HANSEN

Arne Jacobsen’s chair design is named for the outline of an ant with its head raised. Despite its slender shape, Ant™ is strong and famously comfortable. Ant™ Deco Silhouette is the first printed version of the chair ever released and features a print from Danish artist Krista Rosenkilde. The silhouette pattern draws inspiration from the chair’s shape. The original print was carved on linoleum and printed by hand, then scanned and digitally printed on the chair’s curved surface.
