@maykendehoutman oh, *nobody* knows anything about Crimson Empire : p very few people seem to have read or even heard of these books. (This is a trilogy by author Alex Marshall, by the way, since just googling 'Crimson Empire' gives an equal or greater amount of results for some Star Wars related novels that are apparently called the same thing so I need to clarify.) However, the only person i know who turned out to have also read and enjoyed them is also a Vorkosifan.

the main character (although it's very much an ensemble cast) is a lady in her late fourties or fifties who united the land as a warlord in her youth and is being forced out of retirement to do it again....i'm trying to remember how i initially found it and it may have been looking for fantasy with older female protags, but maybe not. the tone is this amazing juxtaposition between humor/madcap zaniness and dark fantasy action. there are several other good things i can say about this series and nearly everyone single one forces me to append "...and so, given how often people on the internet say they're looking for books like this, i REALLY don't get why more people haven't glommed onto this!"

i was trying to remember what book series i read where a guy was thinking to himself like, god its so hot when a woman has blood on her tits, because he saw a woman with blood on her tits after killing an enemy and thought she looked hot, and then immediately mentally backtracked like OH WAIT BUT NOT IF IT'S BECAUSE SHES HURT OR ANYTHING. I MEAN BECAUSE OF BESTING A CREATURE/PERSON IN RECENT COMBAT.

after brainstorming i'm 99.9% sure it was Maroto from the Crimson Empire books

but I strongly considered that it was Miles Vorkosigan instead. it could be in character for the latter. uh, maybe less so with that first part as time goes on and the poor little dude accumulates ptsd and more and more weariness of violence, but 'i sure admire a woman who can fucking kill someone when the situation calls for it' is pretty Miles.

by the way, the icon came from a crop/edit of this drawing of me and one of my first rats, Oswald, who is also in my banner. this art is very old at this point, but it's my longest-term tumblr icon by far and i'm probably never changing it.

the premise was something like, how big i thought he should be.

best thing tumblr ever did for me is the term "rotating it in my mind". it's really true that sometimes you think about something real hard but you can't tell what the thoughts are exactly. it's revolutionary stuff, i might even say

i think its so funny that alumni from schools like harvard and columbia that were there during the protests in the 60s-80s are expressing support for students currently protesting against the genocide in palestine, and random zionists that were NOT at these protests in the 60s-80s have the never ending audacity to tell these alumni "well thats different, what you protested was good and what they're protesting is bad." as if protesters against the vietnam war and apartheid south africa were not also demonized, arrested, brutalized, and even killed for their activism. history only remembers them fondly after the damage has already been done.

Hmm. Bound doujinshi can be of various lengths, and a doujin fic you buy at an event may be a whole novel or just a booklet containing a single short story...is the same true of fanbindings?

Because when I think about ones I'd want to fanbind, some of the first that come to mind are short pieces, but I feel like the ones I've seen in pics are longfics made into chunky books. Are there people doing tribute fanbindings of shorter fics in nice little booklets...

(I really don't know much about fanbindings, which may be strange, since I had a short but intense 'interested in handmaking books' phase in middle school and also currently, like, obviously like certain fanned fictions a lot.)
