Someone pointed out that the scene from the first movie where Ryder brings Chase back to where he found him to boost his confidence doesn't make any sense. At least on the scene where Ryder rescued Chase from the truck then say that He sees something heroic and braveness in Chase when he didn't really do much at all other than being scared. Like that scene should've been Chase confronting his fears by rescuing someone in danger.

Ah, THAT scene. I actually believe it MADE SENSE, so let me try to explain why they made it like that. Under the cut because it got kinda long too XD

First, let's take a look at the dialogue in that scene:

Ryder: I remember the first time I saw you. You were a tiny little pup, all alone in a big city. Chase: I know. You saw me and took pity on me. Ryder: Not at all. What I saw was a brave, heroic pup. Even though you were too small to look after yourself and you were up against all the scary things, you got back up and kept going. I didn't adopt you because I felt sorry for you. I chose you because you were the bravest pup I've ever seen.

Now let me just celebrate a moment here because HELL YES I'M DOING A LOT BETTER AT UNDERSTANDING DIALOGUES IN ENGLISH OMG I'M SO PROUD OF MYSELF RIGHT NOW THAT PART ABOUT BEING TOO SMALL TO LOOK AFTER HIMSELF HE SAID IT SO FAST AND STILL I UNDERSTOOD IT PERFECTLY IN THE FIRST ATTEMPT AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I'M SO HAPPY ok let's go

Now, it's time to break it down!

"I know. You saw me and took pity on me."

Here we see what has been Chase's point of view about that moment, which he believed in it all his life so far. He wholeheartedly believed that he was just an insignificant scared little puppy, worth nothing but pity. He was a nobody. He was nothing, and since then, up to now, he believes that it was Ryder who turned him into something, into the brave rescue pup he now is- or believed to be, until he's now back in the big city, feeling all his fears and trauma of being a nobody coming back up to swallow him whole, reminding him that he is nothing.

But then, Ryder tells Chase what was his OWN point of view of the whole thing, and what was his motivation to rescue and adopt Chase. First, let's see his point of view.

"What I saw was a brave, heroic pup. Even though you were too small to look after yourself and you were up against all the scary things, you got back up and kept going."

This is literally what Ryder saw. Chase was small, yeah. And instead of staying in a corner, of keeping quiet, or hiding somewhere, where he would be certainly safer, because he literally could NOT fend for himself... Chase was out there. In middle of the people, SO MUCH BIGGER than him. Risking being stepped on. Risking a car running over him. Risking an aggressive stray possibly finding and attacking him. He was out there, trying to move, trying to go - no matter where, he was on the move. He'd take a couple steps back to avoid being stepped on, and still press on to advance again, trying to cross the street.

He was afraid? Of course. Did it stop him? No.

THIS is the key for understanding Ryder's quote here. No matter how threatening things were for Chase, Ryder saw him out there, insisting, persisting, pressing on, even with all odds against him. Even if what moved him was the fear and uncertainty and confusion as to why his owners abandoned him there, Chase was NOT hiding away. He was trying for whatever, braving into the unknown, into the scary terrifying world of the big city. And it was traumatic, he was probably having a bad anxiety attack right there at that moment (note it's different than a panic attack, I explained a bit about it when I answered another ask earlier). But he was out there and not hiding.

While Chase saw himself as just a scared good-for-nothing baby, Ryder saw him as someone who didn't hide when faced with probably the scariest things ever in his life and facing it all alone. Which brings to the last part:

"I chose you because you were the bravest pup I've ever seen."

Not many puppies would do the same as Chase did, not in such conditions. "Oh but I've seen stray puppies following people and trying to play with them", yeah, same. I've had dozens of dogs in my life so far and all but one were strays I rescued from the street (or were born from said rescued strays). I've also seen tiny puppies trying to interact with people passing by. But in a crowded sidewalk? People walking nonstop, a wall of stomping feet not caring if you're in their way? With so many loud noises of people talking, cars driving by? Cell phones, cars honking, so many echoing steps. This is a complete nightmare to any puppy, they tend to cower in fear and wait for when the chaos is over or at least less chaotic until they venture out again.

This is the reason why Ryder saw Chase as the bravest pup ever. He was terrified, he was risking his life, but he was still out there.

Which contrasts with what has happened in the movie so far up to that point, if you think about it! Since Chase was taken back to the very city that left him traumatized as a puppy, his fears have been taking over stronger than ever and rendering him unable to keep going, much unlike what happened when he was a baby. And why's that so?

The answer is also simple, it's because since then, Chase's point of view was that it was Ryder who made him brave - he didn't believe he was already brave from the very beginning. He never thought of those moments as moments of bravery, like Ryder did. He thought of those moments as cowardice. These thoughts were what caused him to begin freezing and inducing him into this constant feeling of anxiety crisis and eventually leading to panic attacks, making him believe even more that he has always been nothing, and it's Ryder who made something else of him.

Chase never gave himself any credit for what he has become. For him, it has always been Ryder - and for Ryder, it has always been there with him from even before they first met. Chase just never associated it, until Ryder took him to that very place where they met and told him his own point of view, for the very first time, as apparently those two never addressed why Ryder adopted Chase ever before, which explains why Chase always held this belief that Ryder adopted him out of pity.

You see a scared puppy in the middle of a crosswalk, nearly being ran over by a car.

I see a brave little soul, pushing through against all odds and trying to get somewhere, anywhere, just for the sake of not standing still and waiting for who knows what, which might never even come.

And he fucking GOT somewhere and is indeed the bravest pup I've ever seen.

And he's not even my favorite pup XD

Cal Brunker (the director of the movies) gave Skye her moment skydiving in the first movie because his daughter was 4 and she really liked Skye. The second movie was made partly for his daughter and partly so that girls could feel represented more (they're trying to push girls into the spotlight, with Liberty and Skye being utilized more).

You're definitely right that Marshall doesn't act like himself in the movies though (no elevator wipeouts, no clumsiness, and Rubble taking all of his jokes).

Definitely not surprised here (in a good way, sort of). Every time we have girl power for a female character in whatever media where said girls are in less numbers than the boys in this media, it's because someone behind the scenes has a daughter, a niece or something who asked for a girl in the team or likes the girl they have in the team.

For Transformers, Arcee was created for that same reason: Some (or one? I don't remember well, I'm bad with numbers) of the producers had a daughter who liked Transformers and complained there were no girl robots, so they included one for her. Later down the road, some more followed. We still don't have A BUNCH of femmes (how we call female Transformers in a general way), but it all started just for that.

As a woman/girl myself, I gotta say I DO LIKE the representation and all that XD Even more when, by PERSONAL experience, I meet so many more girls than boys when I join online spaces about cartoons/animes/series I like that are usually targeted to the male audience (InuYasha, Pokémon, Digimon, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Knight Rider, Transformers, Sonic The Hedgehog, Megaman, I could spend half a post just listing). It's funny how they need to be reminded that WE ARE WATCHING THESE SHOWS TOO.

As for the last part, I actually think Rubble was pretty okay- the jokes were in his element at least, mostly related to food every time. He didn't TAKE Marshall's jokes, he had his own ones, what happened was mostly he took Marshall's MOMENTS gor jokes, like, Marshall just needed TO HAVE THESE MOMENTS TOO. Marshall would have joked MORE on other situations in the movie, he's the one to always light up their mood. Rubble was himself, Marshall wasn't. Even Rocky got to crack a joke at the end which was pretty much in his element as well.

Hopefully Rocky gets to be on Season 2 😁

Just a little theory of mine. Since we're getting another episode with Charger on Season 10. What if the reason they're doing that is so that they could have one of the main pup characters appear on the spinoff (what if we're getting another Marshall episode on R&C?). But it's kind of odd that Charger gets a Christmas episode (based on that leak) like won't there be a Rubble and Crew Christmas episode? (I mean we did get a Dino Rescue Christmas short starring Marshall of course during Season 7 which also had a Christmas episode) and the worst fact is that it's not even 22 minutes long (unless the two Charger episodes on the main show count as one 22 episode for Marshall's appearance in the Spinoff.) Though another problem I had is that they chose Charger out of all pups to have the third Christmas episode (they could've had Liberty since she's a reoccurring character in the show anyways or she'll appear on that episode but Charger is the main character)

There's still no guarantee yet that leak is true, though I wouldn't go betting any money against it at this point.

In any case, it is interesting that they're bringing Charger back again for season 10. If I had to guess, they're probably doing that to save money, since it takes time to create another model to match the style of the original TV series. I guess they figured they already had Charger's model on hand, so... yay, he's coming back again. Then again, some of the others might show up anyway, we never know.

Given Charger's reappearance so soon, it does make me wonder if we'll see Marshall in Rubble & Crew again someday soon, too. It just depends on the team behind each show, I suppose (they might take the extra effort to bring in another pup... or save money and call Marshall in again. lol)

New Stock Image Edit

So I've been working on this project for months (or maybe a year) and thankfully I got to finish it today. I want to thank my friend for finding this image of Rocky so I can put him in my edit.

Don't get me wrong, I like Rubble but I just think another character deserves to be on the same spotlight as Chase and Marshall. And I barely seen any stock images of Chase, Rocky, and Marshall together so here's them surfing together. I hope you guys like it.

Paw Patrol Appreciation Week 2024

Monday - The Beginning

For my very first Paw Patrol Week, I'm picking my good boy who looks like me in every way, Rocky!

To go along with this art, I made some sort of drabble which is divided in five parts (I swear it's a coincidence with Rocky's vehicle number, I didn't plan on that XD). I'll put it under the cut because it's kinda long ahsushshshshs

Anyway I hope you like it!!

As soon as she got there and placed the bag down, five small pups perked up and came out of the shadows inside the shelter. The first one was mostly light gray in color, with nearly white paws and tail tip, sniffing the air, while the others waited just behind.

The Beginning

Lightning flashed the night sky in the town. A dark gray stray dog ran through a couple streets under the rainstorm, bringing a plastic bag in her mouth. She entered a darker alley between an old restaurant and a residential building, going to the far end of it and depositing the bag on the floor, in front of an improvised shelter made of bricks, pieces of broken furniture and some cardboard and wood planks.

“Mommy?”

“Yes, dear.” The dog smiled. “I’m sorry your mommy’s smelling funny now. Had to go look for food somewhere else. Did you take care of your siblings while I was out, like I asked?”

“I did!” The gray pup puffed up his chest, proud. “No one got lost today.”

Another lightning strike, followed by a powerful thunder roar. The pup rushed back into their shelter, terrified. “Make the rain stop!”

The other pups glanced incredulously at him. “It’s just water.”

“I don’t wanna die like…” The gray pup shut up. He didn’t wanna die like their white and brown sibling, drowning during a flood just a few days ago.

“Shh… It’s okay.” Their mom went inside and laid down, beckoning them all closer to her. “We’re safe here. You built us a very good dog house in a higher place exactly for this reason, remember? Always remember this, my dear. We’re in a no flood zone now. The water won’t reach us here.”

“Hey mom! Look what I found!” 

The gray pup came running across the park to meet his mom, who was lying down under one of the trees. The other pups were playing around. She looked up, curious.

“What do you have there?”

“I found this funny rock while hiding in the hide and seek game. It has a lock in it and looks like a ball! Can I keep it?”

The mother took a closer look at the rock and smiled. “Oh, it’s a geode!”

“Ah what?”

“A geode. It’s a very cool kind of treasure, here, let me show you.” She investigated the lock more closely, frowning. “Hmm, it’s really closed. Do you think you can find a way to open this lock?”

“Sure!” The gray pup grinned and ran away. “I’ll be back soon!”

A few minutes later, he was back holding an old worn out screwdriver in his mouth. With a determined look, he picked at the lock with it until they heard a clicking sound and the geode opened in half.

That was the most beautiful thing the pup had ever seen! Inside the rock, there were so many green crystals, shining in the sunlight.

“Sometimes, nature plays pranks on us.” His mom chuckled. “Just like this. If anyone would look, they’d just see a round rock. But inside, it’s hiding a cool shiny treasure.”

“Like how people look at you and think you’re just a stray dog but have no idea you’re the best mom ever?” He grinned, earning a laugh from her. 

“Or maybe like you, who is actually so much smarter and more intelligent than most dogs I’ve ever known, and you’re not even six months old yet.”

“Pups, we need to go.”

They found it weird. Their mother seemed scared. What could be bad enough to make her scared?

The gray pup stepped up ahead of the others. “What’s happening?”

“I heard the restaurant owner talking on the phone just a minute ago. He’s calling animal control. Quick, we need to get away from here now!”

“What’s animal control?” A black and white pup asked, confused.

“It’s a car with bad people. They capture dogs and other animals on the streets, and take them away. No one ever escaped after being captured. We never saw anyone coming back alive.”

That made all five pups share a startled glance. The gray pup jumped out of the shelter and turned to the others. “Come on! We already lost our sister, we can’t let them take us now too!”

All pups and their mother were about to leave from their alley, when a van stopped just in front of them and two men stepped out, staring at them.

“I think these are the dogs we gotta catch today?” One asked, picking up a long stick with a lasso on one end of it.

“Mostly pups. This will be easy.” The other replied, holding up a net. “You catch the mother, I’ll get the pups.”

It had been five days and the gray pup was almost giving up. After being the only one to narrowly escape capture, he had run until he was out of the town, hiding in the woods. Without trash bins or dumpsters around, he had no idea where to look for food…

He kept walking until he found a dirt road.

“Maybe this will take me to another town.” He considered. “I can find food there…”

Now he was so weak already, and there was still no sign of another town anywhere near! Sometimes he had to get out of the road to not get hit by eventual cars driving by. More than twice he had to hide from hungry eagles or bears. He couldn’t continue like this…

The sun was so strong. He stopped walking and sat down on the dry grass beside the road. Looking up, he thought he saw something in the distance… Maybe another town? He couldn’t be sure, his vision was so distorted now. With a heavy sigh, he collapsed to the ground and closed his eyes. That was it…?

The last thing he heard was the noise of yet another vehicle passing by… But this one stopped.

He heard a dog barking.

And then, nothing.

The first thing he felt was… Cold.

No, not really. He wasn’t cold. He felt… Refreshed…? How was that possible?

Slowly, he opened his eyes.

He was lying on some kind of… Cooling mat? Daring to lift his head, he looked around.

He seemed to be in a big room. The walls were decorated with silhouettes of pups, bones and paw prints. Some colorful big pillows and beanbags were scattered on the floor. Just in front of him, there was a bowl filled with–

“Water!” He rasped as he hurried to crawl over and just dive his snout in the bowl, drinking it like there was no tomorrow. So fresh and clean, much unlike the rain puddles from where he last drank the day before! They tasted so bad and were so hot under the sun…

“Oh, you’re awake!”

This other voice startled the pup and he sat up, looking to the direction it came from.

Another pup approached, coming through the front door. He had brown fur, with light caramel colored face, underbelly and paws. This pup was soon followed by two others, one was white with a few black spots and the other was entirely cream colored and smaller than the first two.

The gray pup felt scared. What if it was their home and he wasn’t supposed to be here…?

The brown pup stopped his approach, keeping a bit of a distance from him. The other two watched curiously from both his sides, as he spoke again with a smile.

“You don’t need to be afraid! We’re not gonna hurt you. This water is for you, we figured you’d be thirsty when you would wake up.”

“... Where am I?”

“You’re in the Lookout tower of the Paw Patrol!” The spotted pup spoke now too, wagging his tail. “It’s our home! Isn’t it cool?”

“I was running an errand with Ryder, our owner, when we found you by the roadside.” The brown pup explained. “You passed out and seemed very weak. How are you feeling now?”

“... A bit better.” The gray pup eyed the water bowl. “Is it really for me…?”

“Yes. There’s more if you want.”

“Are you hungry too?” The spotted pup asked him, but didn’t wait for an answer. “I’ll get some snacks!”

They watched as the pup rushed to a food dispenser on the far opposite side of the room and pressed a button, making the food come out in another bowl. Then he pushed this bowl with dog food and placed it next to the water one, with a big smile. The gray pup looked up at them with relief and tried the food.

It tasted… So good?? He avidly went down on it, earning a chuckle from the spotted pup, who now backed away to give him space and sat down beside the brown pup again.

“My name is Chase.” The brown pup spoke again. “These are Marshall and Skye. What’s your name?”

“Name…?” The pup paused eating, thoughtful.

It just occurred to him that he didn’t have a name. Coming to think of it, he never knew his mother’s name either, only ever calling her “mom”, “mommy”, and so on.

But he couldn’t leave them hanging. A name…

Then he remembered something.

That special rock with green crystals he had found. He liked it so much. It was one of the things he missed the most after having to run away from his hometown, aside from his family.

“... My name is… Rocky.”

So they're just replacing their Season 3 early subseries. Like Jungle Patrol got recently modified into a new one but oj a hidden jungle. Also like there's already 3 other versions of Air Rescues like we already have the main Air Patrol, Skye's Ultimate Rescue, then JTTR. It's obvious that they're running out of ideas or they just wanted to upgrade it and just present it as their new product. I feel like Everest's subseries would also get an upgrade.

By this logic, you could give Marshall his own subseries similar to his Ultimate Rescue or atleast his EMT/Medic Pup style.

Rocky could also get one but it's too similar to Rubble's New Show.

New Subseries (or Mini-Movie?)

A new image has popped up and is currently making its way around social media. In it, we not only see some never-before-seen outfits, but the pups are also in their new animation style. I've no idea where this was found, so I cannot say what this relates to just yet, but no doubt we will indeed see this at some point in season 11. Also, we know a new mini-movie is on its way, so this could possibly relate to it (or just another subseries).

Thumbnail Remake Edit

So recently Nick Jr. / Rubble and Crew YouTube channel uploaded a Live Video and a compilation video about Chase and Marshall (though the live only shows Paw Patrol episodes and has nothing to do with Rubble and Crew or the episode with Chase and Marshall, then the other video only has one clip from Chase's and Marshall's episodes in it).

The thumbnails looked cool so I had to recreate them without the watermarks and stuff. It's actually hard to find all the exact scenes and frames that were used in the thumbnail but luckily I found them. Well, except for Rubble since I don't know where or what episode they took him from. So I improved for the first pic by reusing Rubble from the original thumbnail.

Here's the result:

It's not exactly the thumbnail but atleast it's accurate. Chase and the Background are from his episode while Marshall is from his episode. Rubble is the only one in the pic that isn't in high quality.

I also made a version without Rubble and just these two pups:

I could easily put another pup in the middle if I could find an alternate. If Rocky does appear, I'd put him in the middle.

My only problem for the second thumbnail is that I can't find the exact scene of Rubble and the Background. So what I did is just took some frames in Marshall's episode then inserted Chase and Marshall in it.

Here's my final edit:

You could easily think that they're on an episode together in this scene.
