the doctor gender debacle in the recent event is so funny. legend has it that lowlight himself ran to the officers at 2:40 am, still in his kal'tsit onesie and screaming, "WHO TOLD YOU PEOPLE TO GIVE THE DOCTOR A MAN PENIS"

The start of Azuma Aya's new unofficial series, SPELL! Featuring a young, freshly shrine-maidened Reimu, at the dawn of the spell card rules in what Azuma seems to emphatically describe as a "what-if" kind of story.

Azuma Aya is starting a new unofficial series in SCoOW next week, titled SPELL!
It's about Reimu. That's about it.
Get it in the same place you get all your other SCoOW translations.

The unofficial translation of Gensou Narratograph is now available to download!
I know no one ever actually looks at tumblr blogs, but I've made a basic page to hopefully collect information and links in the future.
Tumblr media
An unofficial tabletop RPG published by Kadokawa. While the game as a whole is by no means "canon", it includes a full transcript of a game session with ZUN as one of the players, plus new character quotes and location descriptions written by ZUN, so it's worth checking out just for that alone.
Narratograph is largely boardgame-based, played with a selection of 30 characters gathering clues on a map of Gensokyo to progress through objectives and resolve the incident/kerfuffle of the week. However, it is still an RPG, with every scene being roleplayed and the incident also having a proper story to it. Narratively the game leans towards the light and feel-good end of Touhou fanworks, though I suppose it's up to you what you do with it. The book includes two prewritten adventures as examples, one of which I've run for a group to test it out.

It has pretty digestible mechanics, and a very unique danmaku combat system. To help with the number of sheets, figurines, tokens etc. needed, I've made public the Tabletop Simulator mod that I use to run the game myself, together with character figurines. You can use the assets included with the game to try and make it work in some other virtual tabletop of your choice. Or of course, you can also just print everything and play it live, if you can get a group together.
The rules have some quirks, and I'll try to figure out the best way to post my own notes and suggested houserules. As things stand, though, despite having nothing to do with the game officially, after putting a lot of work into it, I'm also curious to hear anyone's thoughts or experiences running it!

Hoshiguma is actually 6 ft tall (barely), which is still a little short for someone described as ducking through doorways.
BUT I think Valarqvin deserves to be the tallest lady (at 6'2"). Fight me.
gatchas are scared of making women 6'0 or taller. gladiia should be like 6'2 canons lying.
I’ve heard people bring up that average heights of women in China are shorter than in America so that’s why. And like I recognize that most characters in a Chinese gacha aren’t going to be as tall as me, as an obnoxiously tall trans woman. But still the fact that even Gladiia, Hoshiguma, and Mudrock aren’t allowed to be just 6 ft tall is so sad these women should tower over everyone

This bit from Skadi's memory mapping in IS3 is the most adorable thing in the entire game, imo.
Transcript:
The hatchlings seem afraid to leave the water. Their immature anatomies find the dryness uncomfortable. After some trial and error, they choose to attach themselves to the rock wall, curiously scanning the world above the surface with their visual organs. Skadi takes out a lyre, tunes it, and begins playing. She sings. It is a song that knows neither trouble nor sorrow. It is full of love and kindness. The hatchlings stretch out and sing along with their developing organs.

What did you think of the new Arknights season?
Hit most of the high points from the game, but the pacing felt rushed to cram them all in so a lot of things didn't really have time to breathe. It did NOT fix the weird problems in chapter 6 where it introduces a bunch of poorly explained subplots all at once. Episode 4 (the Mephisto fight) was flat out bad, which I guess explains why they try to avoid showing fights whenever possible.
Still made me cry though. Although honestly I attribute most of that to the voice acting and music.

We need a continuation of Mountain's story because Domma is still in NPC jail.
Haha, fair enough, but theoretically she could get out of NPC jail without actually being part of a new event. That's happened to Jaye and, uh, Kazemaru?

do you think mansfield break 2 is going to be a thing? it's been like 3 years now
Dorothy's Vision was already Mansfield Break 2. Lone Trail was Mansfield Break 3. Mansfield Break was the first part of the Columbia/Rhine Lab trilogy. If you mean a continuation of Mountain's story specifically (as opposed to Silence's), it's in his operator records.

it 1000% feels like, for the lack of time/aid/skill, the translators end up using machine TL for events, and that image you posted as an example feels like a prime candidate for that
fiammetta's file lines to this day are awkward and stunted because they're almost word for word machine TLs
Okay I was gonna wait a little while for this post but you hit the nail on the head.
My (apparently not-so) tinfoil hat theory about this game: nearly all of it is machine translated.
While reading Dorothy's Vision in preparation for Lone Trail, I came across a (probably infamous) stretch of critically story-relevant text that was not translated at all. A friend of mine directed me to the arknights story reader, where I looked into the EN translation and, yep, that's still Chinese. So I ran it through a Machine TL to get the jist of it. It was serviceable, a lot of the terms translated surprisingly well, but the moment to moment writing was obscured to me by the TL quality.
And in a moment of dread I realized it read EXACTLY like any old bit of Arknights story, and everything clicked. The problems I have always had with the sentence structure and word choice feeling strangely disjointed, lacking in logical flow--all of it showed up the same from this raw machine translation.
Y'all. We've been getting a poorly touched-up machine translation of the Chinese text this whole time. All the effort you have to put in to just figure out what's being said--it's not your fault, the story is not too smart for you, it's because you're being asked to read a machine translation, without the context that it will be rough and full of holes.. Everything that writing is--beyond merely conveying information or a sequence of events--we get none of that.
Think about all the nuance we missed of your favorite characters. Your favorite moments. How much of their nuance and depth did we miss?
How many other characters and moments did you dismiss or skim because the writing couldn't convey their emotional core? How many of those could have been as important to you as your current fave?
The fact that Kal'tsit comes across as unintelligible--does she instead sound wise and poetic, in the original?
How much of the full text of Arknights do you think is available to us? 80%? 40%? Who can say.
But I can say one thing. What we have now is not acceptable.
