Hey shoutout to the Jewish converts/people who are re-embracing their heritage who are struggling with keeping tradition. Keeping kosher when you've grown up eating pork and meat+dairy is hard. Scheduling your week to keep Saturday clear is hard. Getting the High Holy Days off of work/school is hard. Not just externally, either; all these things require a ton internal discipline. And I just want to say, to everyone who's struggling rn: it's okay if you fall short. It's okay if you don't always have the mental/emotional strength to give up *every social norm you've grown up with* all at once. Heck, I still sometimes give into weakness and get a pepperoni pizza instead of the kosher options. And that's the thing: nobody's perfect. Shits hard. Everyone misses the mark sometimes. And that's ok. The important thing is that we try to do better tomorrow (and if we miss the mark tomorrow too, there's always another day).

Medinat Israel, the country is named after the people... Not the other way around. The land of Eretz Israel was named after us, long before the language I am typing in was first spoken, over a thousand years before the first proto-Arabic script.
Am Y'israel Chai, means "the people of Israel live" meaning Jews, not Israelis. Because we are the B'nai Y'israel (children of Israel), the Bet Y'israel (house of Israel), the progeny promised to Jacob when he wrestled with G-d and asked to be blessed. G-d gave Jacob the name Y'israel meaning "wrestles with G-d".

Jewish use of the word Israel in our worship isn't a sinister statement... I'm distressed to hear that some people have applied a false idea that the shema is a "zionist chant" (holy shit, stop using the word zionist you don't know how to behave), this is one of our most important and enduring declarations of Emunah
youtube
What is sinister though is the denial that Jews are native to our ancestral homeland, and the inability of western leftists to conceive of the idea that Jews including diaspora Jews are native to that land and that this does not invalidate the claim of Palestinians as native people... We have a shared native homeland.
Not to mention the genocidal colourism of denying the heritage of Jews that Westerners decide are too pale to claim their levantine heritage, with echoes of Western imperial thinking from around the world aimed at assimilating native peoples.
Judaism grew up organically from the earth there, our culture emerged directly from the Cana'anim who laid the first stones of Jerusalem almost 5000 years ago, we were born from them.
Jewish lives were cut down in defence of Jerusalem for a thousand years before the Roman Jewish Wars that forced us in to Diaspora. We defeated Empires in defence of our homeland... Chanukah may be about oil and light and the re-consecration of the Temple, but it is against the backdrop of this

Judah, called "The Hammer" and his brothers leading Jewish armies and defeating the armies of Antiochus of the Seleucid Empire, a Hellenic Successor Kingdom to the Empire of Alexander of Macedon... Establishing the independence of Judea.

i get tired when people say shit like “ohhh but so many bad things happen in the Torah” because like. for me, that’s the point.
the Torah is honest. it doesn’t tell you that family is easy or that romance is simple or that the simple act of staying alive won’t cost you.
it’s a collection of stories that look you in the eye and say “it is dark and it is scary and it is cold. life is going to hurt. but you have to live anyway. you have to love anyway. you have to keep moving despite the despair and never harden yourself to hope.”
the Torah does not tell you that life is easy. it tells you that life is worth it even when it feels like it’s not

I need people to understand how common it is for people to falsely claim to be Jewish on the internet
If you are politically active (in any direction), most of radioactively bad political takes you are seeing from pseudonymous Jews are probably not actually from real Jews. If you are Christian, most of the takes you are seeing from pseudonymous Jews that validate the connection between Judaism and Christianity are probably not from real Jews. If you are edging up into conspiracy circles and getting your third eye blown wide open by the things that "Jews who used to be a part of it" are admitting about the way that they control the media, or the banks, or pornography, or wildfires, or the transgenders or whatever the fuck else, I promise you, the "Jews" that you are hearing these "confessions" from are almost certainly not real Jews.
This isn't a matter of No True Scotsman; this is a matter of math. Jews are 0.2% of the population. Here's a thought experiment for you: imagine one thousand people in a room. Would even three of them lie about their identity online to troll or manipulate people, if doing so was effective and easy and they probably wouldn't be caught? If so – if even three people in a thousand would lie in that way if given the chance and the motive – then that's already more people who'd do that than there are actual Jews.
Go on Etsy sometime and try to find Jewish art – 90% or more of the stuff tagged as Jewish is Messianic cosplay crap; around 5% of the rest is wiccan Lilith worship nonsense. Go try and find Jewish biblical scholarship online, and you'll wade through dozens and dozens of search results from Christian groups speaking for/over Jews for every article actually authored by one of us. It's everywhere.
If someone claims to be a Christian online, statistically, they probably are. If someone claims to be Jewish online, in contrast, there is such a high chance that they are lying that, if you are claiming to be an ally against antisemtism, I'm sorry, but you need to be doing some basic due diligence before you platform them as though they are actually Jewish. This is how we get Messianic ministers invited to political events to act as "rabbis"; this is how we get known antisemitic hate groups with few to no Jewish members included on lists of Jewish orgs to donate to; this is how we get posts from "reformist" Jews about how their supposed Holocaust survivor grandma is a hypocrite who loves "President Natanyahu" uncritically shared and reblogged by non-Jews who should know better.
I keep seeing non-Jewish "allies" swallowing blatant, obvious bullshit completely uncritically, and I'm getting pretty sick of it. Please stop acting like this isn't a major and ongoing issue in online spaces. Please fucking consider that people lie online, and that one of the decently common lies that they use is "I'm a Jew, and I believe [insert a thing here which reinforces your existing biases about Jews, or is just so inflammatory that it shortcircuits your brain completely]".

goyim thinking they’ve uncovered the secret conspiratorial reason the (((zionists))) change their names vs jews who have literally been using hebrew names for centuries + been forced to change our names in the diaspora as a means of attempted forced assimilation/cultural genocide.
