Low and sweet was the voice that sang, smile curving upon pink lips at the tug felt within, a demand rather than a request for the Queen’s attention. Song continues while closing the distance between herself and large winged creature, gently singing as hands come to roam along heated silver scales as head comes to rest along silver snout. “You grow restless, don’t you Meraxes?” The silver haired woman whispers, lifting her head to stare into golden eyes with her own violet ones, palm still stroking along lengthy snout to the side of her neck, pride and joy stemming from her very body when looking upon her own mount...the second largest in the world, the only other to outsize her own ride was that of her brothers, the black dread, and even still Rhaenys knew Meraxes was just as strong. 

“One day we will fly across the Sunset Sea...” She promises while still speaking to the bonded before her, it was a dream she’d had since ever becoming a Dragon rider, just the two of them. “And we will see everything the Western shore has to offer...”

There was a shift, a presence felt, something stirring within the former Queen and it was enough to drag her from the chambers she often hid within, so long ago it was that a part of her was destroyed; as if her heart was ripped from her chest. Rhaenys remembers it vividly, the way she cried as rider and dragon fell, the outcry of pain that filled the air when Meraxes took such a large hit...and then there was nothing, it was silent, no longer feeling that presence in which she became so used to, the Conqueror Queen wept for days, still finding the memory plaguing her at night. 

The smell of smoke filled her senses, leading closer to the the nearby shrub as those hisses were quick to follow, further does Rhaenys tread while avoiding the small embers that were spat out in fear. Appearance had changed but there was no forgetting those silver scales, how they shined beneath the sun whenever the pair flew through the skies, a sense of pride always radiating from the Targaryen Queen at that of her dragon, her ally, her friend. “Meraxes...” Voice was gentle and soft as lavender hues glistened with unshed tears, hands inching forward but not yet daring to touch, for even in her youth the she-dragon was a force to be reckoned with. “Emagon ao forgotten nyke?” Have you forgotten me? She asks in her mother tongue, eyes soft with concern, the wound still upon silver face.

Survival Of Rhaenys

Disclaimer: I am not claiming any of this to be canon, this is just my own speculation/thoughts, etc. Also please note sensitive content lays ahead, mentions of torture, death, mental illness and incest. 

A bolt from a scorpion pierced the eye of Meraxes, and the great dragon and the queen who rode upon it fell from the sky. In her death throes, the dragon destroyed the castle’s highest tower and part of curtain wall. Queen Rhaenys’s body was never returned to King’s Landing.

So as we know, eventually Meraxes’s skull was returned to Aegon but Rhaenys’s body never was, there is also the matter of if Rhaenys outlived Meraxes or not, as in if she fell off Meraxes to her death, or was crushed beneath the weight of her dragon. I don’t really see Rhaenys coming unseated as she was said to ride more than Aegon and Visenya combined, which tells me she was a very skilled rider. Again, this is just my speculation/thoughts. 

There is also the mention that she did fall and survived it, but was later tortured to a slow death by the Ullers. This is where my survival verse comes into play. 

When Meraxes was hit by the scorpion bolt she did not die instantly, she began falling from the sky where she destroyed one of the castle towers, during this time Rhaenys managed to dismount herself from the dragon, which obviously resulted in her falling further but she did survive. Still alive she was discovered and then eventually brought to the dungeons, knowing how much Aegon cared and loved for Rhaenys she was used as a bargaining chip of sorts, as well as held as a hostage. During this time she was subjected to cruel acts and torture, often silently hoping they would just decide to kill her, never did she plead for it out loud, they would get no satisfaction from the Queen in that. 

A letter was sent to Rhaenys’s husband and brother, Aegon. In this letter was enclosed the very painful details of her current situation, along with some of her blood. They agreed to return the Queen to Dragonstone ONLY if Aegon relented, which he eventually did. When Rhaenys comes back she is changed, and not the bright and lively young woman she once was, she is broken and suffers from PTSD, nightmares often plague her and she is incredibly heartbroken over the loss of Meraxes; as if she lost a piece of herself.

Rhaenys knew well what it was like to be silenced, to have the power you once wielded stripped away, to be left broken as if you were nothing; it plagued her many atimes within her sleep. 

“Yours is the fury, with fire and blood...” Finally she speaks, tone was soft and calm when doing so, raising from the chair in which she sat as silver braids fell behind shoulders, tall and lean for closing the distance as hands come to take hold of the others. “Such is the words of both your houses. So have them remember it.”

Just to know, survival Rhaenys is the canon verse here, obliviously I have other AU’s, conquest verses, etc, but to better fit with more present GOT times I’ve had her survival verse be her canon...and it is very sad, because I’m just a glutton for pain and angst.
