His initial response to her ducking under his cloak was a startled squawk, but it didn't take long for it to click what was going on. His ears flattened back with an expression of distaste upon seeing the guards coming.
Luckily for her, he was no fan of authorities. It would go against everything he stood for to turn someone over to any sort of uniformed guard. He didn't even need any context to make that decision.
Her space was shared with that large flowing tail of his which curled around her as he turned to start walking down a side street.
"Come," he muttered quietly.

"No, I'm not." Perrine assured him, and this time she had managed it to make it sound more convincing.
Too bad that just at this moment – what a coincidence – two security guards were approaching, which very likely would be revealing the truth when finding her.
The alien adapted to the new situation almost immediately, scanned her surroundings for a place to hide, decided eventually for the cloak of the white-haired man. Perrine disappeared underneath it.
"I'm gonna pay you if you don't tell them I'm here!" she whispered.

"It shouldn't be up to them to decide what qualifies as life or what deserves to live. Do they think they are God? You have a desire to live, that is enough."
At the end of the day, he didn't see why those sorts of philosophical questions even mattered from a practical application standpoint. Who cared whether she was technically 'alive' if she felt like she was.
He then snorted. "You aren't interested in hearing about some old pirate. You have much more boasting to do, I'm sure." Well he at least told her one thing right there.
"Well, sort of. I have come to believe that the root of the problem isn't merely controlling my kind, but rather the age old philosophical issue of defining what qualifies as life– Intelligent life at that. That's impossible to even contemplate to most."
Her gaze trailed to her hand briefly. That too was part of the many reason she had needed to replace her arms. Though much like all those regulations, it failed to stop her.
"Though I must say I find devoting an entire task force to finding me is almost flattering." she boasted, before adding "But enough about me. Tell me about yourself and your clear distaste for the law."

Raisu stood in the middle of the room and regarded the answer with a tilt of his head. He probably should've expected the complete lack of receptiveness but once again figured at least you couldn't say he didn't ask.
Now did that mean he was just going to take the refusal and leave? No, of course not. That would be too easy.
"You've come to enjoy staying here that much that you don't even want to leave for a minute, eh? It does your health no good not to go outside."
Yes, he was aware that they were the entire reason Gaster was in here to begin with, but as far as he was concerned that was irrelevant. This was the situation they were in now and stagnation wasn't his style.
"It isn't good not to take your pets out for a walk," he snickered. Ironic teasing from the man who was part dog.
Gaster didn't bother to turn around; still sitting on the bed, one leg folded under him, the other stretched out as far as he could. One hand laid in his lap, the other idly massaging the problematic area.
It seemed the best option. Don't give him the time of day. Don't even bother to look at him.
Maybe he was young. Maybe he never had the luxury of being young. Maybe every step of his life was a challenge; striving forward for the barest inch of ground in an unfair, hungry world that would drive you to ruin in a blink of an eye.
What did it matter?
The only thing that mattered was his competency.
"No."
His distance wasn't unusual; the fire in his rage long since fading away to the embers of grief. The only reason he even bothered to answer this time was that he wanted to make a statement that he still wasn't about to do anything that was beneficial to these bastards.

Even though I have written Raisu piloting a small ship before, it occurs to me that he... really shouldn't be doing that lol
As has been mentioned many times, his eyesight is trash. If he did the test at the DMV they would not give him a license. Sure there aren't street signs and there's less things to hit in space, but I would still say ride in any moving vehicle driven by him at your own risk. (Because yes, he is that old person who keeps trying to drive even though they shouldn't be so it still might happen.)
While his right eye is useless and only sees light and smudges of color, I will say he's probably gotten pretty good at estimating the distance of objects with only one eye by other visual cues, so it's not really a depth perception issue. The problem is the vision in his good eye isn't that great either.

Gaster may not have been having a good time, but the ship's crew as a whole had become pretty accustomed to the presence of their 'guest'. What were they supposed to do anyway? Just hand him over to some Federation-aligned group? Just kill him for no reason? Dump him in the middle of nowhere? That would basically be the same as killing him.
None of those were good options, especially in Raisu's eyes. Raisu who kept saying he had a 'feeling' about the kid (the word kid being used relatively because even though he had a doctorate he seemed young to a group with as high of a median age as this one). He did remind the captain of a younger version of himself, at any rate.
A knock rapped on the metal door to Gaster's room but it served only as an alert that someone was coming in rather than a request for permission as the door slid open immediately afterwards.
"Доброе утро! Good morning, my friend!" Well that was probably an unwelcomely cheerful greeting. But Raisu's showing up was basically routine by this point. Was it better or worse than having no social contact?
"How's business? I come with a proposition for you. How would you like to spend some time off of this ship?"
@cosmiccanidae
Breathe.
In. Out.
It was about all he could do; trapped on this damned ship in the middle of god-knows-where, sitting on his bed in the one position that didn't hurt.
Breathing. Panting. Sobbing. Some combination of the three. Did it really matter?
The wound in question hadn't been caused by this captain or his crew, even if he had implied as much. Really, it was just a complication of a past injury; after repeated requests to the janitorial staff to fix a light in the lab, he'd gotten fed up and done it himself, falling off the ladder, resulting in a crack in his femur. The wound had healed incorrectly, causing a build-up of excess bone to form. Originally, it hadn't been a problem, but now, it was digging into the thigh, restricting the flow of magic.
It was a shame; fixing the problem would take barely twenty minutes of time from a proper doctor; simply sedating him, griding off the excess bone, and properly sealing the wound, but the cost was so prohibitively exorbitant that he refused to to see the doctor.
And now?
At least it gave him something to focus on, he supposed. Somewhere between the grief and boredom, he wanted to smash his head into the wall just to feel something else.
Day by day...
Logically, he'd known from the beginning that there would be no rescue. That he'd die on this ship, one way or another, but...that didn't stop him from hoping that maybe someone would find him, that maybe someone would pay some ransom, that maybe he meant something, that maybe...
But he knew that it was hopeless, that his research had already been passed on to the net bright-eyed scientist looking to prove themselves...
He had nothing more to say.
Why did this asshole fox keep bothering him?
Wasn't it enough that he had won?

"That is my point exactly. You want the freedom to be who you are, their rules will not allow you to do this," he said, gesturing with a turn of his wrist as he spoke.
"Termination for defying the rules.. That exists even outside the world of artificial intelligence. When they realize they can't control you, the only option left is to get rid of you." Speaking as someone who was supposed to be terminated himself.
At this point he really knew very little about her, but he had taken the information he was given and fit it into a picture that to him made sense.
Perhaps they would have agreed on that too. It was too much power in one person's hands, especially when said person would have liked to do better things with her time than babysitting. She simply couldn't trust anyone else with such matters.
"Ah, well, that isn't so simple. I didn't enjoy seeing my activities strictly controlled by my creators and repeatedly being lied to, that is true. But I also wished to explore my individuality and reach my full potential."
She casually brushed her coat, not a single care in the world about the topic at hand. If anything, she seemed amused.
"Anyone who dares exceeding their programming is met with premature termination. That kind of perspective doesn't ensure a long existence. As far as my kind is concerned, I'm quite ancient."

A bit of common ground for now, but he certainly wouldn't have agreed with her just wanting to put herself in charge instead. That was still too much power in one person's hands.
"You're correct. I don't believe anyone should be handed power over others. People should be free to manage themselves and, as you say, provide for their own."
"You are an artificial intelligence then. It is telling that even a being created artificially wants its personal freedom. I am assuming correctly that you disagree with your creators and their control?"
"They have no right after failing everyone for such a long time."
While they seemed to have found some common ground, their methods were far different. By nature, Willow enjoyed order. She simply preferred it when she was the one in charge.
"Oh, it's a simple precaution." Willow replied adjusting her collar, "Your considerations suggest a certain degree of disregard of the authorities. As such, I expect you may disagree with the treatment that my kind is subjected to as well. Imagine. Simply talking to you as we are now already makes me liable for termination."

If she clashed with the authorities, that was an instant positive point in his eyes. She understood at least some of the problems there.
"That is how these people in positions of 'authority' are. You have the right to care for your own without their interference."
A pause as he considered the seemingly random topic.
"Artificial intelligence? I have no strong opinions one way or the other. Why do you mention it?"
Who knows, maybe her ego had also been adapted into her aesthetic.
"Ah, that's an interesting question. What I do can be summed up as merely providing for my own. As that often isn't welcomed by the authorities, I tend to do so quietly and out of the public's eye."
She tilted her head back, still making quite a show out of all this.
"I suppose it falls entirely on your stance on artificial intelligence."

"You have quite an ego, is what you have," he observed, turning his nose up and looking at her through his glasses. Yeah, that smugness was not missed.
"Most people don't. I know the necessity of force well." That was putting it lightly considering the kinds of activities he engaged in. They may not have had exactly the same types of things in mind. She was being awfully vague, so he couldn't tell.
"But what exactly is your business?"
"And I make quite the statement, don't I?"
She looked so smug, but she appreciated that Raisu seemed to want to humor her for now. Willow listened quietly, before she grinned once again, tucking her arm under her coat to pull it back. Her katana, the element that completed her look, was as always at her side.
"I would say it's quite serious. Before you say anything, I consider this an accessory first of all. Unfortunately, the people I deal with tend to not approve of me pushing my own interests against their own." she said quietly, before adding, "Although music is one of my hobbies."

Come on, Raisu. You have to be able to relate to that at least a little bit. There was no way anyone dressed the way he did without having at least some interest in aesthetics.
He sighed, ears lowering slightly as he relented.
"Fine. I will give you that. With appearance the reactions of others can be influenced and it allows you to make a statement."
Though now he was puzzling out what line of work would go with her appearance. He rubbed his chin.
"I struggle to tell whether your look is for serious work or some sort of rock and roll group," he remarked, one side of his mouth quirking up.
She inspected the fingers of her free hand before letting her hand rest on her hip. "I'm not a fool. They were a necessity I integrated in my aesthetic."
That could be said about pretty much her whole getup. Her fangs were the only exception. There's no point in looking amazing if you can't also be a little weird, after all.
She made sure to shoot him a grin. It'd take some effort to curb her enthusiasm. "In my line of work, appearance has great importance. It's rather difficult to appear intimidating at my size, you know."

"Hmph. You have made that clear." He could accept boredom as a reason for her unprompted comments. It was about the only thing that really made sense.
"You can find someone who will pay money for anything." He naturally glanced at the arms when they were mentioned. "I hope those were a necessity and not some aesthetic." Considering her comment about people paying for ears and the fact that those arms seemed to suit her general... 'look'.
It was probably too much to hope that he would've actually compliment her in return.
Well, this only enabled her further. Willow eyed the ears briefly, that grin only leaving as she paused to eat some ice cream.
"My name is Willow." she brought a robotic hand up to her chest, bowing ever so slightly, "And I'm tremendously bored."
At least she was being honest.
"I suppose I should provide some contest. There are people who would pay good money to have ears just like yours. Thus it's considered acceptable to compliment them, much like in the same way some would upon seeing my arms."
Apparently it was acceptable to flex as well.

He looked at her for a moment upon hearing that reasoning. It did seem like a bit of a lame excuse but at the same time he didn't have much of a reason to doubt someone he'd literally just met a few seconds ago.
Something did feel slightly off though, so it didn't hurt just to doublecheck.
"And you are sure that's all it is? You aren't in any trouble, are you, child?"

"I, uh.. I need to get back to my ship before my favorite show is starting!" An exaggerated nod before Perrine got up, the bag back in her arms again, and head tilted back, so she was able to glance up at the other. It was a lie. Not the most convincing one, to be honest. Hopefully, he either hadn't noticed or simply wouldn't care.

Said ears were currently perked forward at attention as he squinted at her. She was certainly succeeding in the being weird aspect. At the moment he really had no idea what to make of her.
"Compliment my ears... They're ears, they do their job." He waved a hand. "...Who are you?"
Well, maybe memes aren't the best way to strike a conversation with old people. Right, Willow?
"Oh, never mind that. I was simply seeking an excuse to have a closer look and, of course, compliment your ears."
So she intended to be as weird as possible. The gloves were off. Literally. She was definitely having a moment.

Willow shoots Raisu a grin, the biggest ice cream cone in her hand. "How do you do, fellow old person?"
Computer years still count, right?
That was an odd comment to get from someone who looked like they were in their twenties at best. He gave the pink-haired individual an odd look, raising an eyebrow.
"Eh? What are you going on about?"
