Thanks...
Photography YR2
Throughout my second year studying Photography, I have learnt an immense amount about not only my own style of photography, but how i am to prove to people that the work I can create is worth it. I’ve never had a bigger sense of accomplishment as when I exhibited ‘Elusive Street Dreams’, and believe it can only get better. Thank you to everyone who is following my work and look forward to see more and more projects throughout the summer and next year.

ELUSIVE STREET DREAMS
On the 21st October 2014 I wrote on my blog,
“ "The elusive street dream" - Very soon I will be uploading 1 of many bmx / skateboarding edits I have been producing, shooting and editing as part of a Personal Project. College has granted me a very flexible project in which I will aim to achieve a feature length film to be uploaded in stages for ultimately a 20 minute film that will be displayed at a gallery. ”
On the 8th June 2015 I exhibited this exact feature length film at Munro House in Leeds. Regardless of the reaction, be it positive or negative, I gained an immense amount of accomplishment knowing I am able to present the work I love to make to family friends and anyone that appreciates anything photographic. I now feel my work will only progress with time, as I proceed to learn and experiment further with the lens.
In my reflection piece I said,
“As well as gathering knowledge regarding ‘working in the industry’ it was my duty to undertake multiple roles within the class’s annual exhibition hosted at Munro House, Leeds Gallery. Named ‘Untitled20(15)’ due to the relevance of the year, the amount of people exhibiting work all showing different yet personal aspects to photography with a vast range of techniques. I personally exhibited a feature length film entitled ‘Elusive Street Dreams’ capturing the days in the life of a BMX bike rider. Featuring Ellis Tudor, I display the way we explored different cities in Yorkshire and rode ‘street spots’ or ‘skate parks’. Shot over a two month period we gathered around one hundred hours of footage, originally used as four individual video parts uploaded to youtube along with an abundance of still images. I believed the most effective way of presenting this would be to comply each section into one fifteen minute video to loop over at the exhibition, along with projecting the film onto a wall for the most compelling outcome. I received great feedback from everyone that attended the opening night.”
I am over the moon with how this film came out, I have been able to put my knowledge and experience to the test through producing an original ‘bmx video part’ taking ideas from the old childhood favourites like Edwin Delarosa’s “All Day” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nGe1wDR2LQ and recent features William Strobeck’s “JOYRIDE.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05gZufEpvG0
In my artists statement I wrote this "Kick. Push. And the way he roll, just a rebel to the world with no place to go.” Extreme sports are something that the general population struggles to come to terms with. When we think skateboarder, we think rebel. Each kind of extreme sport has the same negative stereotype such as dangerous, vandalism, incriminating etc… and will remain so for years to come all over the world. For many it is an art form, the fact individuals creatively attempt to capture tricks in the streets and perform their skills in places that wouldn't seem possible. In many ways BMX sheds light on different visual impossibilities to make the viewer think ‘wait! how did they do that?’ In this short film I have attempted to recreate a generic BMX video section that as kids, my brothers and I would avidly watch. This film focuses on the progression around a day in the life of Ellis Tudor. Capturing documentary type footage using the expected slr, dlsr, fish eye and wide angle lenses and GoPro cameras to help accentuate the natural feel of BMX video parts.
So please enjoy, Elusive Street Dreams

WIPI - WORK EXPERIENCE
For a many months now i have been working part time for an Advertising agency in Wakefield called DPP. This company is the biggest car advertising agency in Europe and throughout my time i have mainly being building email adverts (eshots) however i had the opportunity to use my photographic / cinematic skills into creating a short video demonstrating offers for one of our clients, Inchcape. Even though this exact video wasn’t used by the company, I received great feedback from CEO of Inchcape UK Connor McCormack and Design Manager for DPP Simon Boardman. (Feedback to follow)

STREET SPORTS - FILM REEL 2015
PPD
Over the past year I have studied alternate aspects of shooting street bmx through the camera. Whilst attempting to maintain a sense or realism throughout the use of cameras, I find certain things shouldn't be ‘directed tableaux photography’ but rather capture the moment, especially when its an ‘extreme’ based sport. I try to illustrate the natural course of riders throughout their day-to-day life whilst maintaining an aesthetically pleasing feel for the video using dlslr cameras and a gopros.
Here is a short film reel displaying the ‘true’ visuals within BMX

A few screenshot (possible) raw images for my portfolio.
I feel I have come a long way throughout my time studying Photography at Park Lane from when I first started the course with the photo of the Chinese Rainbow Pheasant, to learning about shooting within a studio, and following my photographic passions of the street sports lifestyle.
To me photography is a difficult process. Its easy enough to press the shutter button, but ultimately the photographs truth lies in what isn't captured through the viewfinder, but rather what you can’t see. I love street photography in terms of not quite knowing what could happen! and studio photography allows me to capture my ideas precisely.

Joshua Zucker - Photographer Interview
Tuesday 3rd, February 2015
I got the chance to ask some of my personal favourite photographers questions related to their work and world. I have been following Josh Zucker for a long time now and his work sets a standard for how photographers should properly approach street photography. Based in L.A. josh became evermore apparent to me as he was shooting members of music group Odd Future (which i am a fan) like Frank Ocean and Tyler, The Creator,  as well as some of my favourite skaters such as Ben Nordberg, Luan Oliveira and many more.
I feel this kid is going to go far in the photography world, and will hopefully one day get to work with him. Enjoy the read, its a good one.
I’d like to start off by saying, recently iv’e ordered a few of your prints both of Tyler and Frank from weareunemployables.com which are both beautiful images. Tell me about how you got involved with odd future?
That is nice to hear. I believe the Frank prints are currently unavailable... either way, thank you! Being introduced to OF was anything but intentional. I moved to California while finishing my senior year in high school. I was offered a job to work for Greg Hunt at Vans. He helped me find  an apartment around the corner from the soon-to-open, OF store. It wasn't long before I was introduced by mutual friends & we saw each other every day.
When you go out and shoot, what equipment would you take?
Primarily I shoot with a Leica M9 w/ a Summilux 50mm 1.4 lens.
Film or Digital, which do you prefer?
Good question… I love film because it's what I learned to shoot with. Using solely with a 35mm camera taught me so much about patience & the fundamentals of photography. Leica has now given me the option to operate my camera the same way, yet produce a digital image. I am sure I will return to film in the future, however my current workflow demands an immediate turnover, which can only be made possible, by shooting to cards.
What made you first pick up a camera?
I have always had cameras, polaroids & film in my home. However, it wasn't until I was fifteen when I found a Nikon FG 35mm camera that belonged to my mother, in high school. After I got my first rolls developed, I was hooked.
Polaroid and Black and White are a big theme of your work, is it an aesthetic choice or what? What kind of overall image are you trying to display?
To me, black and white seems to emphasize the importance of the moment captured. Often color distracts the viewer from what what makes the image valuable. Of course, this is not always the case. I will use color if necessary, however I mostly do prefer B&W. Polaroid is a whole different world, but just as close to my heart as film, or digital. I believe there is much to learn from instant photography & thanks to Fujifilm, it is still possible to shoot instant, as much as you desire.
Do you exhibit your work?
Yes, last year was the first time that I've had work show, in Los Angeles. I am also planning to have more work shown out of the country, in 2015.
A few of my favourites are Darius King, Smith Flip and him hopping over the fence but I find it hard to pick a favourite as they’re pretty much all sick! Can you Pick your favourite photo and why?
It is difficult for me to think of a favourite photograph, as I am more focused on making my next shot better than what came previously.
Tell me about moving image and what you aim to achieve through film?
Videography was actually my first love. It is undoubtably where I learned storytelling & I am positive that my photography is heavily influenced by the moving image.
Scrolling through your blog Los Angeles seems like a pretty f*cked up place, you can clearly see some weird sh*t living there! Where in the world would you like to shoot the most?
For that exact reason I enjoy shooting in L.A… The unexpected draws me to carry my camera at all times. Nowhere else can events unfold as they do in Los Angeles & because of this, I currently do not want to live anywhere else.
Tell me about www.weareunemployables.com
Unemployables is by far the easiest way to get a hold of my prints. For a long period of time it was difficult to not have a direct link for my work. I feel very fortunate to be included in this project as it is also home for some of my favorite artists' work.
Any upcoming work to look forward to?
Yes, a lot is in the works… More news, soon via joshuazucker.tumblr.com.

PROGRESSION
I’m going to be making a book for all of my progress over the last year. This is for my college, i believe rather than a ring bound portfolio a, proper hard back book will be more effective for my photographic expression.

Converging Theories
"I think aesthetically recording spontaneous action, rather than carefully posing a picture, is the most valid and expressive use of photography," Stanley Kubrick said.
Maybe the statement wasn't earth-shaking, but it startled me. The boy who said that had turned 19 a week ago. - MILDRED STAGG, "CAMERA", 1948
Kubrick was a prodigy like no other, his upbringing, location and high IQ allowed him to focus on what he loved but on the highest level! He said this,
Think up ideas for stories, go out and shoot them, and then send them in to the magazines. I was lucky; I figured that out when I was young. - STANLEY KUBRICK, 1948
What Kubrick had that no-one else did an ability to understand photography way before anyone, he was so ahead of his time, its hard to comprehend what photography was like before Kubrick started shooting New York.
The first image above is from Kubricks ‘The New York subway, by Stanley Kubrick’
The second image is ‘Johnny on the spot’ - Look Magazine, 1946
The third image ‘Walking the streets of New York’ - Look Magazine, 1946
These three images all from different perspectives show what new york was really like, I wish to recreate a similar feel for an image by using what Kubrick had which was a camera, the streets and a sense of visual story telling.

Part 3 - The Elusive street dreams
Filmed on GoPro4
This version of elusive street dreams has no subject, the clips used are purely throwaway clips however the footage in this section has been edited similarly to any extreme sport video part. Taking away the colour so the footage on display has more meaning. With the audible narration of Jack Nicholson and Miles Davis this film is set to be the most different parts of my series “ESD”.
