2 bellatrix Lestrange
4 Sirius black
thank you for the ask anon!
[character ask game here]
2. a canon or headcanon hill you will die on about them:
i have two headcanon answers for my best girl, bellatrix:
that her marriage to rodolphus is unhappy
a lot of bellatrix fans - or certainly the ones i follow on tumblr - have the headcanon that her marriage to rodolphus is a strong one, and either reject the idea of bellamort, or think that bellamort takes place with rodolphus’ consent.
i disagree. i much prefer to view bellatrix as someone whose breathless devotion to voldemort isn’t just caused by the deranged sexual energy she projects in the books (which helena bonham carter really took and ran with in the films…), but by the fact that voldemort - tragically - is the first man in her life who actually treats her as a real person. while i don’t think her marriage to rodolphus was forced (i think it was arranged - and i think the idea that pureblood families practise arranged marriage is implied by canon - but arranged and forced marriages are not synonymous, nor are arranged and loveless ones), i do think that it was a decision she made when she was quite young because she thought she should, and that, if she’d had the chance to actually think properly about it, she wouldn’t have accepted rodolphus’ proposal.
i see them, then, as having very little in common - rodolphus being dour and insubstantial is my preferred way of writing him, while bella is passionate and vibrant - and as living, almost the second the rings are exchanged, entirely separate lives.
i also see bellatrix feeling incredibly constrained by the gendered expectations of her social class - expectations which rodolphus, following the example of his parents (and bella’s own), has for her - and hating being, essentially, trapped in the lestranges’ house, having to play hostess and behave herself like a good pureblood woman. like narcissa.
voldemort - someone who can very much understand the desire to escape the shackles of your father and your class background - is the only man she ever meets who lets her escape this.
but, more than that:
that voldemort genuinely loves her, in his own little way
if you asked him, of course, he’d say otherwise, but i think it’s justifiable in canon that voldemort doesn’t just like having bella around because she strokes his ego.
he clearly misses her while he’s stuck in a tree in albania; he is the happiest he’s been in over a decade the night she’s released from azkaban; he refuses to lose her to azkaban again in the duel at the ministry, even though it means blowing a year-long cover; he allows her to speak frankly to him when they’re in private (she tells him to his face that he’s wrong about snape - for most people, that’s the last thing you ever say to lord voldemort, for bella, all she gets is the silent treatment for a few days); he is willing to put up with her doing all she can to be physically close to him, even though that alludes to the relationship between them and makes him look like he has a weakness; he is - if you’re a delphini truther (i am! sue me!) - willing to allow her to be seen to be pregnant with his baby, something which makes clear he’s just a man underneath it all; and - of course - he absolutely loses it when she dies.
in contrast to a fanon tendency to turn him into an emotionless automaton, voldemort is someone who clearly has a great desire to be seen and known. his monologues are usually him revealing his secrets, his desire for notoriety is obviously caused by having been such an attention-starved child, his life is hollowed out by the profound grief of his orphanhood. i cannot see any scenario in which bellatrix’s affection for him isn’t something he clings onto like a life-raft. and, despite the series’ belief that the main value of love is as sacrifice, this - pleasure, comfort, solace, understanding - is love too.
4. your favourite line of theirs:
sirius’ best line is obviously this god-tier read of wormtail from prisoner of azkaban:
‘there’s enough filth on my robes without you touching them.’

What was Bellatrix like after Azkaban? How did it impact her and her relationships?
Anon I have to be honest, I hate fanon interpretation and the more I watch the movies the less I enjoy HBC's interpretation too. Don't get me wrong she's an exceptional actress and I absolutely fell in love with her the moment we saw her on screen but her version of Bellatrix is very very ooc from book canon.
There are some aspects of her I absolutely love from the films, but honestly book Bellatrix is where its at. Now, we don't know what Bellatrix was like pre-Azkaban. We get snippets of her but everything else we get is from Harry's perspective and he thinks her simultaneously repulsive and attractive.
So here's my take on post-Azkaban Bellatrix:
Mentally changed - no, not insane. Not in the way the films showed. I think she was marked criminally insane when she was sentenced to life in Azkaban however the actual meaning of 'criminally insane' is: not being responsible for ones criminal actions because of a mental disorder. She was fully aware of what she was doing and she did it all with pride for the love of her life and likely also because every action she took acted on her own personal beliefs that muggleborns and halfbloods and muggles are below her.
Similarly, a personal headcanon - she is mentally changed because she's been occluding so deeply and for so long. I think her perceptions of reality are slightly distorted, I think her perception of time is completely thrown off and I think this is because she was locked in a cell for 14 years and unable to be with the love of her life who she knew was alive but no one else believed her and she couldn't do anything about it.
I see her physically changed too. I think Azkaban didn't leave her too thin for too long and too ragged looking (like HBC's version with the birds nest hair and disgusting teeth) considering witches have a lovely little thing called magic... and Bellatrix also strikes me as too conceited to let herself look that bad. She was described 'feverish' in the department of mysteries but I personally put this down to bloodlust like a predator finally released from its cage. I think she practiced a lot of wandless dark magic in her cell whether it was rune marking - with her own blood too probably. I don't think she just sat there and rot away. I think she went deep into her magic while she occluded, calling to the stars to keep her love safe and so on.
Relationships:
Rodolphus. I think she missed him. I will forever headcanon they are best friends (who also happen to have very good sex) and they get on like a house on fire but Voldemort was always the one she felt that chemistry and deeper rooted passion with. I think they likely grow closer post-Azkaban.
Narcissa. This one is complicated. I think Narcissa is a little apprehensive of Bellatrix this time around. I think Bellatrix is a lot darker than she remembers, I think Narcissa sees a lot more of Voldemort in her sister and she begins to really resent it. I can imagine however that there's something about her darkness that Narcissa likes...something she can't resist getting close to given she too is a Black.
Voldemort. I think they find their rhythm fairly quickly. I think they spend a lot of time together, even if its just relearning each other. I think he doesn't see her as any different - if anything, he thinks her more beautiful. I think they spend every night together, I imagine her clingy and him for once not minding it. Their passion goes through the roof and I think Voldemort wants to indulge in her again and again for months on end (I mean with canon Delphi, how did that happen? Lots of hot filthy toe curling sex).
Delphini. in which of course I mean my AU where she's trio era. Now this one I think is more complicated. I love to headcanon that Delphini looks a lot like Bellatrix. I like to think Bellatrix finds her hard to look at for exactly that reason. She sees what she used to be in her daughter. I think physically she restrains herself from affection for a long time because she mentally can't take looking at her. However, I think eventually they start to heal and things will go back to normal.
Death Eaters. I don't doubt for one second every single one of them is shit scared of Bellatrix. I think they know her reputation well since pre-Azkaban and now she's even more ruthless they're not for a second going to test her.
Family: she's come out of prison 14 years and everyone she loved in her family (save Narcissa) is dead. That's a lot to wrap your head around. She loses her father, her Aunt, her Uncle (though I do like to HC Orion dies just before she goes to Azkaban) and she and Cissa are the last Blacks.

when i first saw Delphi in the cursed child, she had silver hair and blue tips, i didn't know if that was dyed or she's albino, since you and bella have black hair, i thought blonde was delphi's natural hair, is your daughter albino?
Delphini looks extremely similar to Bella and I. She has naturally dark, curly hair and her mother's eyes.
I imagine the Delphini in this fictional account of her life had altered her appearance so that the familial resemblance would not be too obvious to those who were familiar with her mother's face.

being in the marauders fandom is like seeing posts that go “so we, the fandom, all know and agree that…” and then it’s the most canon-divergent AND fanon-divergent amalgamation of words you’ve ever read. it’s so unbelievably Wrong that you recoil a bit. it’s written by someone who claims to subvert and ‘offend’ JKR by somehow perpetuating every offensive stereotype she’s written into the source material and then some. you quietly scroll on and then are hit by a post that does the exact same thing as the previous post yet contradicts it at the same time. fascinating.

What if…. Someone is trying to kill Delphi?
Bellatrix sleeps alone when the Dark Lord isn’t around. She has long since grown used to being beside him, his arm draped over her waist and his breaths gentle in her hair, or the slow rise and fall of his chest lulling her deeper to sleep where she lays her cheek. She’s been alone for four nights when she feels magic pull her so abruptly from her sleep it makes the blood pumping her veins all she can hear, loud and beating in her head to the tips of her fingers, the surge of magic calling to her making her reach for her wand without hesitation.
The magic that calls to her is innate. She feels the pull without really knowing where it is she’s going. For all that’s happening, nothing could be more important in that moment. Her daughter is a frightfully dangerous creature in her own right, but she’s barely four, her magic still unstable and she is entirely inexperienced with anyone outside the world of her parents and those they trust. They have also come in the middle of the night.
Fury rips through Bellatrix like nothing she’s ever felt as her eyes fall onto the scene about to unfold. There is a wizard stood in her daughter’s bedroom. Bellatrix awoke the moment she felt someone come near Delphini who shouldn’t be near her, crossing the threshold of the manors.
“Mama!”
Her magic is loud. Loud enough for the right mind to hear her hundreds of miles away. Loud enough to call him.
The wizard is quick, but Bellatrix is quicker. She slashes down on him with emerald fury and he deflects the curse by a hair, almost tripping in the process at the force of her magic. His face falters as though he didn’t expect her to be ‘mama’, though they both know he knows who he’s attempting to kill. Bellatrix’s next curse is vicious and thrown before the wizard can understand what’s happening. It sears the wizard’s fingers so agonisingly he drops his wand, yelling out in pain. She’s about to kill him when the magic in the air shifts.
“Daddy!” The little witch cries.
The wizard stills entirely, his burnt hand raised from where he had dropped his wand. The air goes frightfully cold around them, the wizard turns frigid with terror. The wand which had clattered to the floor has burnt to ash and dust before he can so much as tear his gaze from the figure of Bellatrix Lestrange, the tip of her wand pointed to his face. A twitch at the edges of her lips tells him exactly who is stood behind him, the steadiness of a predator on the verge of sinking her teeth into her prey shining in dark grey eyes which remain fixed and unmoving on the wizard who raised a wand at her daughter.
Before he can turn, his hand comes to his forehead and his face contorts with agony. It looks as though he’s being torn apart from the inside out. Lord Voldemort watches on as the man falls to his knees, screaming out into the room silent save for Delphini’s short quick breaths and the dying out crackle of Bellatrix’s lingering magic.
“Bella.” Lord Voldemort says with every pleasure in the world as the wizard’s screams finally go quiet and he is released from his torture, “kill.”
The assassin opens his mouth but before he can so much as utter a word of anger — or a plea — he’s been hit with a violent jet of emerald green, slamming into his chest and dropping him backwards from where he knelt.
All is silent in the room for a moment as Bellatrix and Voldemort meet each other’s gaze. Bellatrix is first to tear herself away in order to pull their daughter into her arms. The little witch desperately grabs onto her mother, arms wrapped tight around her shoulders, her legs clinging either side of her waist, face burying into her neck. Bellatrix hushes her gently, a soothing hand hot with the force of magic she’s used her final curse coming to her daughter’s back as Delphini’s heart beat thumps through her little body.
“Hush, dear heart.” Bellatrix says into her daughter’s soft curls as Voldemort vanishes the body with little more than a wave of his fingers, “you’re safe.”
“Can I stay with you?” Delphini asks her mother in a mumble.
“Yes.” Lord Voldemort answers as he moves closer and Delphini reaches for him instantly. She needs her father. He obliges her without hesitation. Thank you daddy, she whispers against him and he turns his gaze to Bellatrix. They both know he was no Auror. He was an assassin. An assassin sent with direct orders — one who could only get in because someone who knew of Delphini’s existence had told someone who shouldn’t have known.
It’s a couple of hours later into the night when Delphini is curled up in the middle of their bed finally sleeping peacefully that Bellatrix and Voldemort make their decision. They need to leave — and no one can know where they go next.

"I have nothing more to say to you Potter." He said quietly. "You have irked me too often, for too long, AVADA KEDAVRA." Harry had not even opened his mouth to resist. His mind blank, his wand pointing uselessly at the floor. But the headless golden statue of the wizard in the fountain had sprung alive, leaping from it plinth, and landed soon the floor with a crash between Harry and Voldemort. "What - ?" said Voldemort, staring around. And then he breathed, "Dumbledore!"
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, Chapter 36, page 813.
"He was there!" shouted a scarlet-robed man with a ponytail, who was pointing at a pile of golden rubble on the other side of the hall, where Bellatrix had lain trapped moments before. "I saw him, Mr. Fudge, I swear, it was You-Know-Who, he grabbed a woman and Disapparted!"
-Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix, Chapter 36, page 817.
Voldemort stayed because Dumbledore intervened, saved Harry from a direct killing curse that Voldemort sent at him and continued to fight him off long enough that Voldemort resorted to severe legilimency (undoubtable enhanced by the horcrux) against Harry to try and goad Dumbledore into killing him. He was gone and had disappeared from the Ministry leaving Bellatrix behind, he came back when the Aurors arrived to get her out, exposing himself in the process. The movies definitely paint this entire scene in a very different light.
If you don't think Voldemort has an unnatural obsession with Harry Potter that goes beyond the desire to kill him...
...then I need you to think about the end of OotP and how Harry using the Cruciatus Curse on Bellatrix Lestrange was enough of a reason for Voldemort to put all of his plans on hold so he could pay more attention to Harry.
This is his enemy. The kid he's told everyone he wants to kill. The target he told everyone to leave to him to finish off specifically.
Harry Potter is there without protection. Unguarded. Not in his right mind. Completely open. You couldn't get a better angle, just take the damn shot.
But noooooo... Fuck the plan to kill him. Fuck the plan to get the rest of that prophecy.
Voldemort decides that this is just too interesting and instead of just doing the deed and saving himself the trouble, his emotions for Harry Potter get in the way. Now he wants to see what will happen and if he can subtly influence the boy to try again. Perhaps even get him to try the Killing Curse!
On Bellatrix.
Voldemort's right hand Death Eater. One of the best, if not THE BEST fighters he's got. He was totally fine with Harry using her as a practice dummy for illegal magic. Not one fuck given about her well-being or her at least retaining usefulness to him in the future he's dreamed up.
.
.
.
I need a Harrymort(with snake Voldy) fic that builds off of this scene in particular. I told my mom about it and she wants me to just write it myself.

tattoo, sender gives receiver a tattoo. (let’s give Delphi runes that match mama’s!!!)
It’s incredibly dangerous.
Stitching magic into one's skin, something so permanent. If it’s not done with complete accuracy, not a line out of place, the results can be disastrous. Many a witch and wizard have died, accidentally calling upon the wrong magic, sowing in the wrong rune.
Of course, there are always ways to make it worse.
Using blood as ink was made illegal centuries ago. A rare form of dark magic, it’s history tied up within the ancient houses, some more than others.
Of course, Delphini is far too small to understand this. Not that it matters. There’s no one in the world she trusts more than her parents. So when mama sits her down and explains to her that this is necessary, that it’s for her safety, Delphini doesn’t bat an eye.
Mummy shows her the 'ink'. Explains that it belongs to them, mama and father, that once this is over their protection will be with Delphini always. She doesn’t recognize the magic as dark, instead it feels like home.
“It's critical that you stay absolutely still, darling.” Mama reminds her. Delphini nods, clearing her throat before her mother moves to start. She flinches at the first cut, body involuntarily tensing. Before Delphini even registers what's happening her whole body goes slack, all she can do is gasp, her own limbs suddenly refusing to respond to her. She feels her mother's hands along her sides catching her before she were to fall. Gently, Bellatrix is repositioning the little witch she just stunned. “I know it hurts but I can't have you move, okay? I need to use magic to keep you still. It’ll be over soon. You’re a brave girl, aren’t you?” She is.
It is a strange kind of pain, it stings worse than a snake bite but the magic in it somehow soothes at the same time. Bellatrix is extremely precise.
Not only is the entire act illegal but tattooing this kind of magic onto a child - it’s borderline unthinkable.
Only it’s not, nothing is for this family.
Mama seems calm and her calm makes Delphini calm despite her inability to even lift a finger. It was entirely the opposite just days ago when all those strange wizards - those bad men - broke down the doors to Lestrange Estates. They came after mama, they came after Delphini too! She remembers how horrible their hands felt on her. Mummy was certainly not calm then and neither was Delphi.
“Almost done.” Bella reassures her again. Delphini is trying to think of anything else, she hates this very much, eyes welling with tears that she can't even attempt to keep at bay. It’s a handful of deep breaths later and her mother’s steady hands finally turns gentle.
Her wand is still on the back of Delphini’s neck, only this time she whispers a quiet healing spell. The angry red that was wrapping around the runes slowly begins to fade.
Cosmic Protection. Guidance. Intuition. Love.
The runes run red along the little witch’s pale neck.
“You did so well.” Autonomy finally returns to her, Delphini is quick to turn at her mother’s encouragement, her throat too heavy to allow her words. She buries her face into mama's neck instead. A few tears escape, if mummy notices she doesn’t say anything. Comforting hands surround Delphini, slowly coaxing her out of hiding.
She pulls back, tiny fist swiping at her eyes before she looks up at her mother.
“It feels funny.” She doesn’t know how to explain it. There’s magic humming at the base of her skull, it’s not unfamiliar nor is it unsettling, the feeling is just new. "It tickles!" the mother smiles, lifting her daughter carefully, balancing her on one hip as she walks them to the large mirror.
“Look.” Delphini does, glancing back as her mother pushes her braid just over her shoulder so that the little witch can see. The red is pretty, it looks just like daddy’s eyes. Delphini grins at the thought, glancing away briefly to catch her mother’s gaze, the older witch shares the same expression.
“We match!” The pain that consumed her mere moments ago now all but forgotten.
"We do." Bella agrees, fingers tucking a stray curl behind Delphini's ear.
She can feel them - through the runes - their magic surrounding her.
She straightens the moment she notices, eyes wide before she lifts her hand to touch.
“Careful.” Her mother reminds her. The magic hovers slightly, she can feel it without even touching her skin. Delphini reaches down, little fingers pulling back her mothers wide sleeve, her hand hovering over the dark mark there just the same. She looks up at her mother, surprise spreading across her features. It takes everything in Bellatrix not to laugh at Delphini making the connection.
"All to keep you safe, love."
