Invincible + Waajeed - “Detroit Summer”/”Emergence” Video directed by El-IqaaProduced by EMERGENCEBuy the “Detroit Summer” b/w “Emergence” 7” single (free download included): store.emergencemedia.org/Buy the digital single through iTunes: bit.ly/a1zMakAfter several months of anticipation, two of Detroit’s most visionary hip-hop figures, Invincible and Waajeed, are finally releasing their single, “Detroit Summer” b/w “Emergence”. The passionate two-song project is not only being put out digitally and in limited edition 7” vinyl format but it’s also being launched with a powerful double music video as well. This stunning visual representation of the songs was shot on-site during the historic Allied Media Conference and United States Social Forum this past June in Detroit. The video also documents the Detroit Summer Live Arts Media Project youth program, in which Invincible is heavily involved. The “Detroit Summer”/”Emergence” music video debuts August 10th, simultaneously with the single release, showcasing the true passion both artists and EMERGENCE in-house video director El Iqaa put into the project. This is far bigger than just Hip-Hop. “Detroit Summer” is not just a season, and its not just about a youth-focused organization in Detroit — the song is about a feeling and a movement. “Emergence” isn’t just the b-side, and it’s not about Invincible’s media company of the same name, but rather the dawning of a new era.Invincible is already highly regarded as a lyricist, and Waajeed as a producer, but they are collectively ascending to new levels of on both songs. Together, the duo worked to show the resilience of their communities and refute the negative national image of Detroit. As Invincible’s lyrics proclaim, “You Call Motown a ghost-town, but the city’s vibrant!”Detroit Summer/Emergence is a prequel to the full length album Invincible + Waajeed are dropping in 2011. For this single, they did a limited edition run of 1,000 7-inch records (all of which come with a digital download code) and once they’re gone, they’re gone.More info on the organization Detroit Summer: DetroitSummer.org Click on the Thumbnail to watch the video Or visit http://celebrityinterviews.info/music/invincible-waajeed-detroit-summeremergence/

DAY Project spent 3 days and 2 nights at Warren Dunes State Park this past week for the closing of our summer program. Big thanks to everyone who lend us a tent, sleeping bag and/or other things that were essential to our survival in the woods! For many of us it was our first time camping. Though it rained the second day and we had to flee our camp site, we managed to find some fun in the neighboring city of New Buffalo. We were fortunate enough to return to camp and climb the giant sand dunes after the rain stopped. Though a tiring journey, each and every one of DAY Project’s members made it to the top and witnessed the beauty of Lake Michigan! At night our youths helped cook dinner and for dessert we sat around the fire to make smores. We also stopped at the Extraordinary Berry farm on our drive home and picked some raspberries and blackberries. It’s unbelievable that the summer program is officially over…but you know what they say - time flies when you’re having fun. For more photos of our camping trip, check out our Facebook page. Thanks for a good summer, DAY Project youths! Good luck in school and we look forward to seeing you all next summer.

Ramadan ends this evening, but on Friday, August 10th, 2012, DAY Project held a potluck at Earthworks Urban Farm with Jahleel. We arrived at 7pm, watched Bilal’s Stand, then broke fast around 9. The movie was good, the food was bomb, and the people were awesome. Thanks for everyone who came out last week. Remember to click for bigger photos!

So! Today DAY Project headed to Grace Lee Boggs’ in the morning to have a discussion on the first chapter of her book. “What time is it on the clock of the world?” And “What time is it on the clock of the world in terms of our environment?” We had a great time having this discussion with her. Afterwards, we headed to makerspace to eat our lunch and talk about the three types of videos that we’re currently working on. “Technology&Communication, Stereotypes, and Environmental Justice.” After a series of questions, we headed over to Belle Isle and decided to do some “KARATE!” & “YOGA” with James and Meiko. And as you can see from the short clip, James was teaching us some basic moves from Karate! I hope you guys enjoy the video! :D
