Golden Boy

I went into this anime not expecting anything and…I’m not gonna lie, I was blown away. I heard that this show was very ecchi and funny. As I’m currently watching another anime that is very deep and thought-provoking, I thought it would be healthy to watch something a tad more brainless on the side. And yes, Golden Boy is brainless but it is also somehow brilliant. It’s a simple premise; our main character is Oe Kintaro, a college dropout who is enamored with learning and women. He’s made it his mission to learn about life by traveling on his bike around Japan and working different jobs, writing down what he learns in a special notebook. That is all! And that is all this show needed to work because Kintaro is so incredibly likable. I’ve never come across such a character; goofy and funny yet clever and determined. He is also the most likable pervert character. Though he is obviously perverse, he is so kind and sweet to the women he pursues and wants the best for them, which is incredibly admirable. I found Kintaro to be inspirational as well. Every job he took on, he gave it his heart and utmost effort, even when met with pain and villainy. His goal is to learn as much as possible from his experiences and help as many people as possible. Despite Kintaro’s strange fetish for toilets, I’d call him an A+ roll model. I absolutely adored this show and will definitely give it more watches in the future. Rating: 9/10
