probably a hot take but i’d like fe to do a customizable avatar (“my unit”) again. not like byleth and alear but more like kris, robin, and corrin

obviously i’d prefer they be more of an everyman and not the main lord, cuz i think it got a little too crazy with corrin. but a customizable character whose attributes and appearance you could change actually lent to some really fun replay value. like i genuinely love the corrin customizer, limited as it is in a few areas, and me experimenting with the customization options for once and making little corrin ocs actually got me back into fates again.

byleth and alear are fine but to me it’s a weird middle ground cuz like, at this point if you can’t customize their dialogue or personality (like past avatars) on top of not being able to change what they look like besides their gender and name just feels kind of pointless to me. now it just looks like we have two clones of the same character

(oh and also i really do not care for they way byleth is handled, please no more silent protag lords 😔)

the ideal would be that they drop the avatar gimmick all together (mainly because, since fully voice-acted dialogue is the norm now, the characters are just not allowed to say the protagonist’s name out loud, and in engage’s case use the “divine dragon” epithet constantly which is the most egregious case of avatar cockstroking i’ve seen) but it seems to be here to stay forever. so i guess i’d just like to see it mixed up a little. pleeeaaase i think it would be so fun :]

#mayor talk #this is probably 99% nostalgia tbh #but i still think theyre all great #i believe three houses' ost was handled by koei techmo if the stuff about them working on 3h while IS was doing engage is accurate #makes sense to me because though graphically their work with fe is kind of Rough [have not played or seened gameplay of three hopes tho] #they know how to make a good fucking soundtrack #dare i say 3 houses has my favorite fe ost #it's DEFINITELY the nostalgia talking tho #but i first played 3h after so much hype and anticipation #plus i experienced it during a very weird time in my life and that backdrop + how much time i invested in that game makes it very cozy #that said man 3h is rough to return to as much as i love this soundtrack and its whole cast [favorite fe cast imo]. it's the graphics...... #also the gameplay. both the monastery stuff and also i don't find it as mechanically fun as the others ive played

i hope you don't mind me adding onto your post, i'm fairly outspoken/rambly about this topic and my tags would be way too loaded if i just kept it there.

but yeah, this. with the term ai being a big bad word that people are understandably wary of on an ethical standpoint, its hard [for me at least] to bring up vocal synth without someone impulsively jumping to the conclusion that it's ai [the unethical/stealing people's voice kind] or a means to replace human singers. on the surface, 'oh yeah this program basically gives you a vocalist that you can use freely instead of a human one' might set off some alarm bells depending on how ya put it.

but anyway, what doesnt help is that vocaloid 6 does use ai [the chill kind, mainly for cross-language support and smoothening i believe [i dont use vocaloid myself whups]] and of course they list that as a feature on the website. but unfortunately people who may do surface-level research on the topic of Vocaloid may notice the scary AI word on the website and not look further, or again jump to conclusions.

once saw a tumblr exchange between two people arguing about whether or not vocaloid [more specifically, miku] is ai. and one party saying the answer was obvious because vocaloid on its website lists ai as one of its features. so its obviously an ai thing... not accounting for the fact that though miku is colloquially referred to as a vocaloid [the term 'vocaloid' refers to both the actual program and the fan culture it's created, which is likely why Miku and other non-vocaloid synths are still lumped in with that word], she hasnt been updated since vocaloid 4 FAR before ai support. of course, people googling the vocaloid program likely won't find this out. but it further contributes to the spread of confusion and misinfo from people still trying to wrap their head around the concept of vocal synthesizers, some even becoming outright hostile [in rare cases but again i can see it happening] which is unfortunate :[

i don't expect people outside of the community not fully understand it right off the bat, nor do i even expect them to even like it at all. but the thing that kills me the most is how easily misinfo can spread with this sort of thing

anyway, shoutout to that one article i read about miku at coachella that called miku an ai program/part of an ai program 🤩 directly linking back to the vocaloid 6 website which mentions ai. even though miku does not have a dedicated v6 nor ai support at all. that will definitely not scare unknowing people reading that article trying to learn about miku. hahaha

anyway yeah that's my piece... hope you understand why i couldnt just keep this in the tags 😭

i feel like way too many of you dont actually know what a vocaloid/Miku is nor how they work and still trying to talk about them in regards to ai

They're just voice-banks, some modern ones using AI for assistance in making them sound more natural, that are ethically made by recording whoever is the original voice and made into separate syllables for use as essentially a "synthetic" voice. The voice actor is compensated and it's all done with their express permission/consent and everything making it entirely ethical and fine.

You don't just hit a "music" button it's not generated you have to actually put together and pitch the voice to make anything. Just calling it "AI" is disingenuous at best. Songs made with it aren't just random slop made by an algorithm, they're basically an instrument like any other to create vocals.
