uuuhhhh anyway assorted ripley updates: -I'm living with my girlfriend now which is fun -I got really into russian post punk for a sec (thanks molchat doma) -officially a highschool dropout (at least I think that's what u americans call it) -I'm very, very slowly making it through the digital gothic library (finally read carmilla and really liked it, am trying to sit through frankenstien) -in terms of cosplay I used to show up when u googled nastya rasputina but I don't anymore 😞 -right now I'm dealing with my pathologic hyperfixation via cosplay and also editing random audio (eva's line about her nail polish cracking is so funny to me bc that's like her only line spoken with any sense of urgency in a game about a plague) -still haven't made a start on trying to learn russian but I can say teeth sooo

-I have,,,vague knowledge of splatoon through exposure and I gotta say, love those squids

this google doc includes a list of petitions to sign, resources to help educate yourself and others, organizations to donate to, and contacts of law officials to get in touch with to express your support for the george floyd and black lives matter movements. this includes ways to help even if you don’t live in america. please read it and support the movement. 

use your voice. use every platform you have, no matter how big or how small. nothing will change if you just sit there and watch. if you think you’re the exception, you’re not. remaining indifferent will only support the oppressor. do something.

write to your legal representatives. express your support for legislation that would bring justice to the unarmed civilians who’ve been murdered by law enforcement officers. demand for justice. 

call 612-324-4499 ㅡ this is a hotline that will coach you on how to get connected with the people who can arrest the officers that murdered george floyd. 

create serious conversation. stop demeaning people who disagree with your philosophies on how to overcome. it is useless and no better than the practices of the oppressor to silence. we need to listen to each other with respect and really consider how we can combine our perspectives to create practical change.

this is all in all a way of me preparing everyone for the 2,000+ word think piece on michael shelley and how gertrude chose him because he had no one else, knowing that he thought of her as the mother figure he never got and how elias hired martin because he knew he was vulnerable and easy to manipulate 

#the grab bag for backstories in tma usually revolve around mothers I've found #like aside from I think julia I can't think of a main character who had issues with their fathers #like even jon falls into that category with his grandma #and it's not like a sexist thing because as far as I know it's like three of ten main characters that have bad parents backstories #anyway tma fills my need for stories revolving around very realistic characters #the names too! everyone's name sounds like a real human name! #it's just real nice having a story featuring flawed characters with real problems #shoutout to the jon paranoia arc

I am two episodes into season 4 and I don’t want to write an essay on why I think the whole “horror lying just beneath the surface that the audience can piece together while they watch the oblivious protagonist seal their own doom” works better in the magnus archives than I felt like it did in sally face because they are two different genres (a written horror story doesn’t work the same way as a horror game even if the game relies on atmospheric horror which sf kind of does) and their aesthetics don’t mesh that well (tma leaning more towards modern dark academia and sf firmly in 90s grunge) but like,,,,,I could

not to mention I think they handle having gay characters being the focal point of a horror story a lot better as it doesn’t feel like a punishment specifically for the character themselves if something bad happens to them but that’s a whole other can of worms

anyway what I think I’m trying to say is stream magnus archives
