Marty zipped through crowds upon crowds of people down the sidewalk, chest and legs aching from the exertion. James was going to wring her neck if she wasn't through the cafe door in .5 seconds. She'd been late to their little "dates" (could you call them that if your relationship was purely platonic?) too many times already. She didn't want to let him down again.
The bells above the door chimed as she threw her entire body against the entrance to the cafe. James glared at her from a table in the corner. "You're late."
"TIME IS AN ILLUSION" Marty shouted, dragging herself over to him.  She tipped the contents of her tote bag onto the wooden table. Tens of different colored markers spilled over the surface along with a brightly colored notebook and candy. James sighed heavily, pushing his calloused hands through brown curls. She laughed lightly, gathering her things into a messy pile in the middle of the table. If Marty wasn't already aware that James had a soft spot for her she would be genuinely worried that she had pissed him off.
James slid a mug across the table to her then went back to typing on his laptop. "Wow." Marty huffed. He spared her the tiniest glance. His cheeks flushed immediately as a small smile tried to weasel its way onto his face. Her arms were crossed over her chest as she pouted like a small child. "I take time out of my busy schedule to come over here and hang out with you, and this is what I get in return?" She playfully stuck her tongue out at him. "Spencer Reid wouldn't treat me like this."
"Well, Spencer Reid is a fictional character."
"How dare you!" Marty slapped her hands over her mouth in mock horror. James rolled his eyes as he sipped his coffee. They both went back to their respective activities, James working on his thesis and Marty doodling ideas for her end of the year animation, enjoying the others company.
