Honestly same. Like when I first saw Voltron and Keith came on screen my mind immediately went ‘that one’. I knew I was gonna love him, I knew he would be my favorite but what I didn’t know was just how nuanced his character would be. He’s so much more than what his angry exterior would have you believe and there was just nothing like a watching all this layers be reveals we got to know him more and more. This boy is so special to me. I love him.

when i first heard about voltron and saw the characters, i was sure keith was going to be my favorite. a grumpy dark-haired anime boy? i collect those. but keith turned out to be so much more than just the stereotypical “anger issues” and I’m forever grateful to the creators for taking the care they did with his character. he’s emotional. he’s kind. he’s cautious but learns trust. he’s passionate. he has a calm confidence. he has a strong sense of justice. he’s got a dry sense of humor. he’s selfless. he’s just so pure. thank you to the universe for this funky little galra baby. i’ll love him forever.

Keith. The boy who stays behind and checks up on his teammates when they seem upset. The boy who turned the blades into a humanitarian relief organization. Who catches the person that tried to kill him before they fall into their death because they might have a change of heart. Who is a born leader but refuses to be one because he prefers helping on the frontlines over diplomacy.

He’s just such a good person it kills me sometimes. I love him so much. He truly has greatness in his heart. What a boy.

Oooh, so, okay, a while back I got this same question, and I answered it here, so you can find a handful of awesome Keith fics in that post. And it seems now it’s time for Round Two. So, some fantastic Keith fics you should check out:

Pressure Points by prettyshiroic (AnalystProductions)

This is just a very bittersweet sort of bonding moment between Keith and Hunk while Keith is off with the Blade. They get a quiet heart-to-heart that really drives home how difficult it is for Keith to be away from his family team.

Remember Me by justheretobreakthings

This one’s a WIP, so I don’t know how things are going to ultimately play out or whether it’s gonna have a happy ending or anything, but I’ve been keeping a close eye on this one. It is just a gigantic pile of Keith angst with a big supernatural mystery going on in the background and it’s beautiful.

Your Extraction Mission Became Mine by Callaeidae3

So this fic is a what-happened-instead story for Bloodlines in Season 5. Here, when Trugg’s got Keith at gunpoint and strikes a deal with Krolia, it ends up going very, very badly. Lots of suspense and action and everybody fretting over my son. Love it.

Packs And Dens And Mother Hens by WritingWren

This is the first of a series of stories in the ‘Dads of Marmora’ category of VLD fics, where the members of the Blade (who are not dead thank you very much) act as surrogate parents and family to Keith. It’s just a very cute dynamic and this writer does an excellent job with it.

Connect by Bandity

So what we have here is a Keith sickfic, in which Keith becomes gravely ill after going to a quarantined area to help care for sick aliens. I really enjoy seeing Keith selflessness put in the spotlight like this, and his self-sacrificing ways just make me want to give him all the hugs in the universe.

Out of the Desert by rosemaryandtime

Another WIP, so you’ll get to follow along reading the new updates as I do. This is a pre-canon fic about Shiro meeting Keith when assigned to be his mentor at the Garrison, and how their bond grows. The dynamic between these two is so sweet, and, as a bonus, the Holt family features prominently and is fantastic.

Elementary by LittleWhiteTie

We’re all aware that Keith and Allura aren’t exactly close in canon, and we don’t get to see many real good moments between them. This fic helps to fill that gap in our lives. Allura has to be the one to comfort and protect a sick and hurting Keith, and it’s honestly kinda heartwarming.

Where the Wild Things Lurk by BlackFriar

Horror is one of those genres that is so tricky to get right, and so every time I come across a horror story that strikes genuine fear for me, it becomes a favorite of mine. This story succeeds magnificently, and gives me some extremely intense action and suspense that gets my adrenaline pumping.

AO3 Summary:While on a mission with the team, Keith gets bitten by an animal. A trip to a cryopod should fix everything right up, but Keith is sick and getting worse and the team doesn’t know what’s wrong.

AO3 Summary: “He’d have an easier time of it if there were somebody to mentor him,” says the General. He looks at Shiro sidelong. “I understand you’ll be stationed here for the next few years.”

Shiro thinks of the flinch, and he knows already there’s only one answer he can make.

Five years before Voltron, three years before Kerberos, Shiro finds Keith, and Keith finds a home.

AO3 Summary: When Keith is bitten by an alien creature with venom that causes your dominant emotions to be amplified, the team is ready for a day of dealing with an incredibly angry paladin.

Which means they’re not ready at all for what actually happens.

AO3 Summary: Keith knows that his impulsive decisions and intense emotions have hurt the team before and he can’t help but think they’re the reason everyone he cares about eventually leaves, one way or another. So when Keith has a chance to get rid of both, it doesn’t take long for him to make a decision.Keith just doesn’t expect anyone to miss what he gave away.
