Roy Montgomery & Friends: Broken Heart Surgery
Underground icon Roy Montgomery gathers friends and cohorts on his Discreet Music debut, contemplating loss by enveloping himself in melancholic luminance, letting the pastel ghosts of dreampop and folk shepherd a set of gorgeous, pointed laments that will quite obviously give you goosebumps if yr into classic Cocteau Twins. Stunning, heart-stopping work.
Limited to 500 copies, grab Broken Heart Surgery LP from Boomkat now with an instant digital download.

Erika de Casier: Lucky
Loved her 2021 Sensational LP, one of my favorites of the year and I'm thrilled we have a follow up approaching so soon. Still LP is out February 21 on limited clear vinyl and available for pre-order today from her bandcamp.
The 33-year-old Danish singer, songwriter and producer built a cult following with her 2019 debut album Essentials, and built on that “cult” designation with 2021’s Sensational, her first for 4AD. Since then, she’s performed at some of the biggest festivals in the world, written for pop stars (NewJeans) and sung on hyped dance tracks (Mura Masa, Shygirl). But when she ushers you into the expanses of her third album she’s inviting you to leave any crass The Nordics’ Next Big Thing or Rising Alt-Pop Star epithets at the door. She may have won a lot of new fans in the past three years, and a lot of high-profile collaborators (Dua Lipa, Blood Orange, Eartheater, etc.) but as this album’s title confirms, she’s the same old Erika de Casier. Still.
All of this to say the album is classic de Casier, her idiosyncratic mix of luxuriant electronica and moonlit R&B drilled further into that one-of-a-kind sound here. Her songwriting is as masterful and universal as ever, and her proficiency as a producer heightened as she produces other voices (They Hate Change, Shygirl, Blood Orange) for the first time. She also invites new collaborators, working with live musicians in addition to samples. N, co-producer of Essentials and Sensational, returns here, but added to the fold are Jonathan Jull Ludvigsen, Carl Emil Johansen, Niels Kirk, Christian Rhode Lindinger, Nick León, Kirsten Nyhus Janssen and Tobias Sachse, adding live drums, synths, guitar, bass and more.

Still Corners: Secret World
The sixth album from Still Corners is “Dream Talk”. Beautifully arranged, elegant and wistful, Dream Talks is a set of ten carefully crafted classic songs. From the autumnal opener "Today is the Day" to the hot summer night finale of "Turquoise Moon", Still Corners have created a sound that is focused, stylish and seductive.
Tessa Murray says, "The genesis for a lot of these songs came from dreams. Every night I would write down the dreams I could remember. While recording I would pull out my book of dreams and sing over various looped phrases Greg had been working on, the repetitive nature of the looping and singing almost felt like going into a trance. A lot of the songs came from that process, it was fun and what I thought were sort of ramblings ended up surprising us with their various meanings and imagery."
Still Corners - Dream Talk LP is available for pre-order on limited edition coke bottle green vinyl comes with download code and poster

Real Estate: Water Underground
New easy listening Real Estate album, with an adorable video giving omage to cult classic 90s show The Adventures of Pete & Pete, complete with cameos. Been listening to the dudes from New Jersey since their humble beginnings in 2009, and honestly they never disappoint. Janglely indie rock at it's best, glad they're not letting up. The new album Daniel LP is up for pre-order from Domino on exclusive Baby Blue vinyl, release slated for February 23, 2023
Real Estate’s sixth full-length album Daniel was recorded in an ebullient nine-day spree at RCA Studio A, in Nashville with GRAMMY-winning producer and songwriter Daniel Tashian (Kacey Musgraves). In 11 compulsively tuneful songs, they connect the uninhibited wonder of their earliest work with the earned perspective of adulthood.  Several days into recording, all five members of Real Estate were discussing album titles when someone suggested “Daniel,” simply because it seemed funny to bestow a human name upon a record. Was it for Daniel Tashian? Maybe. Was it a nod to The Replacements’ Tim? Possibly. Was it the sign of a band that has now been around long enough to take its music seriously without taking itself or its perception too seriously? Absolutely.

Ellis: Forever
Absolutely lovely new track from Ellis a long time in the making, this one is a keeper. Support her bandcamp, and check out her 2020 album Born Again on repressed white vinyl.
hi! it’s been forever since i’ve released new music and i’ve been waiting forever to share this with you - finally, ‘forever’ is out! i wrote this song when i was thinking about how trippy feeling the passage of time is, how it moves so fast and so slow, sometimes all at once. it can be so disorienting, especially the older i get. i am sure that you’ve noticed this too! the last few years have been strange for us all and i’ve felt in a rut, but today i feel a little bit lighter, like this is the start of something new. thank you for your patience with me as i’ve taken the time to find my footing. the fact that you care at all about this thing that i’ve made means more than i can ever express. yours forever, linnea

Marci: Stop
New track from TOPS singer Marci is another banger, her second new track since last year's excellent debut solo self titled album. Can never get enough TOPS, so I hope she's working on a sophomore album release.

Some Other Ones by Mac DeMarco gets Vinyl Treatment
Mac DeMarco’s 1st all instrumental album from way back in 2015 is getting a one time pressing to vinyl, 5500 copies on yellow.  Snag a copy from his bandcamp.
“In the summer of 2015, Mac DeMarco released Some Other Ones — a collection of original instrumental recordings DeMarco deemed his “BBQ soundtrack” — as a digital download exclusively on Bandcamp. It was recorded in just 5 days at his home in Far Rockaway, Queens, about a year after the massive success of his third album, Salad Days, and just weeks before the release of mini-LP Another One.
Originally released in conjunction with a barbecue DeMarco hosted to promote Another One and collect food bank donations, Some Other Ones soon became regarded amongst his fans as a key entry in his beloved catalog. Now, almost 10 years later, and following the success of his recent full length instrumental album Five Easy Hot Dogs, Some Other Ones is finally getting the full release treatment. The album is now available digitally across all streaming platforms, and released on its first and only limited edition vinyl pressing. The real heads get down to Some Other Ones!”

The Marshmallow Ghosts: Corpse Reviver No. 3, Pt 2
Ryan of Graveface Records has been releasing a halloween record every year for the past 15 years under The Marshmallow Ghosts. This year in honor of the long running project, he has compiled every song he ever released, remixed and remastered for a beautiful 3XLP on candy corn colored vinyl. The limited to 200 deluxe box set including a Marshmallow Ghosts cereal box among many other goodies is long gone, but there are some copies of the stand alone vinyl left on his bandcamp.
I've supported this project since the beginning, and somehow even managed to get the lath cut releases that was only ever distributed to friends n family. I saw Ryan play years ago as Dreamend and with The Casket Girls, and he recognized my name when I introduced myself at the bar just from my Graveface orders over the years. Just a fantastic indie label to support, with excellent artists all around. He also opened a brick and mortar shop Graveface Records & Curiosities in Savannah, GA if you get the chance to visit.
The purpose of this triple LP is to get all the material that’s been created for MGs back into the public. Of the 15 albums, 13 of them are out of print and have been for years. But this isn’t your standard reissue, this is comprehensive. I went back to all the tapes, hard drives, etc., and pulled out every session. Since MGs releases are usually a time crunch I’ve had to sacrifice a lot of ideas/collaborations over the years because of time. So literally every single song in the early catalogue has been remixed (and remastered). Why is this important? Because typically I’d be running out of time and would end up mixing most of the material myself. I am NOT a mixing engineer so the material has never sounded like I wanted it to. But now it does! You’ll also hear vocals on songs that were instrumentals, full songs instead of snippets (some musical cues became snippets because of the collage concept and/or narration over them), drums on songs that previously only had drum machines etc. It is a comprehensive look at 15 years of my life.

Johnny Jewel: The Witch
From Johnny Jewel's 10th solo album, Holly (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) is out Friday, October 13th via Italians Do It Better.
Holly is the first solo work Johnny Jewel shares with the public since 2018's "Themes For Television", featuring music he wrote for David Lynch's Twin Peaks. In a recent interview, Johnny & Fien discuss working on the film together. Mixed in Amsterdam in April 2023, Holly premiered last week in official competition at the Venice Film Festival. The film received five star reviews from the global press as well as a standing ovation from the audience.
"Throughout the film, vague hues overlap seamlessly like clouds constantly morphing. As the audience, we project meanings to the shapes that emerge from the chaos in what appear to be patterns. It's abstract enough to be unrecognizable, yet it's somehow familiar. Inspired by the masters of mood like Goblin's blood curdling chimes for Dario Argento, Tangerine Dream's spiraling synthesis for William Friedkin, & John Carpenter's hyper-minimalist approach to scoring his own films with Alan Howarth, I explored a genre-based language to trigger the audience's subconscious. Metallic synthesizers, celeste bells, mellotron flutes & detuned music boxes haunt the recurring musical motif. Like an inevitable storm rolling in, the soundtrack is eerily elusive & at times, almost formless. At other times, the music is so crystal clear & so sharply in focus you could reach out & touch it." JOHNNY JEWEL

Tirzah: their Love
Don't know how I've slept on Tirzah until now?! This album is an absolute minimal masterpiece, haunting and gorgeous in execution. Destined for many a best of 2023 list...
"Perfection from Tirzah once again with perhaps her most loosely structured and hard hitting album to date, as usual produced by Mica Levi, whose chaotic but deeply schooled energy elevates the material here to genuinely all-timer status, using weirdo reverb and doubled up vocal phasing to turn simple hooks into screwed and unforgettable earworms, surrounded by compressed, almost clipped rhythms (the same beat on every track 🤯) stretched over lilting piano motifs that’ll have u covered in goosebumps from seconds into the thing. You’ll likely then spend hours/days/weeks trying to figure out how such bare, seemingly throwaway components can add up to something so profoundly impactful and unforgettable, before remembering that some music is just inarguably, inexplicably, touched by genius."
Tirzah - trip9love...??? LP is available on limited 140g gold vinyl with printed poly-lined sleeve, snag it from her bandcamp or Boomkat now, shipping November 17th.
