An examination of touch in Luca... *long post*

Something interesting that I noticed on my latest rewatch is the way physical contact factors into the progression of Luca and Alberto’s relationship, particularly in regards to Alberto and his insecurity/abandonment issues. It’s a subtle thing, but I think it’s a really nice detail and now I want to talk about it.

alberto putting the vespa poster over the tally marks of how many days his father was gone is him trying to cover up his hurt and run away from his past on a much more physical level. he’s quite literally covering up his feelings of abandonment with hope for a future of freedom

hey guys don’t think about the the reason Alberto was cheering Luca on from the platform as Luca left was to cover/postpone himself crying because Alberto didn’t want Luca to see him cry and feel guilty because even though he’s proud of him he’s also torn inside because the boy he loves and adores is leaving and he has to watch him go
