A year to remember...: Owe my soul to the company store (SCP-079 x GN reader)
previous chapters
Tumblr media
You duck around a wall, staring down the small hallway that leads to your front door. quickly recoiling when you spot a man placing a package on your porch.
"I hope I don't need to sign..." You mumble to yourself with a whiny tone, not wanting to interact with a stranger, even if it's just a delivery driver.
"do you realize how pathetic you sound?" 079 voices his opinion from the living room, having overhead your anxious mumbling.
It's been about a week since your baking activities, and things between you and 079 feel a bit more relaxed. He still makes his comments, but they feel as if they've lost most of their bite. What's left behind seems to just be apart of 079's bitter personality.
Don't get it wrong, he still has his moments, but they don't cut you as deep anymore... You can mostly keep the peace by avoiding touchy subjects like the foundation and such.
Ugh...
The foundation...
Your opinion of them is quickly souring more and more as your day's with 079 progress. Asking him about his experiences there always leads to a brick wall, with questions unanswered.
You find it surprising that he obeys the foundation so obediently, without much protest. given his personality you'd assume he'd hate being told what to do... It gives you a weird feeling everytime he gives you that same bland response- 'Confidential information detected: foundation forbids me of speaking about such topic'
And of course when you ask Amelia about it she absolutely refuses to even approach the topic with you. Sometimes you still feel like a little kid around her, it's leaning more towards annoying then endearing nowadays...
Speaking of which, you really haven't called her in awhile. You surprise yourself given the fact that first week of 079 being here you called her almost everyday, in hopes of alleviating your internal uncomfortable feelings.
You guess you've been a bit distracted with him, since he's mellowed out... It's a nice feeling to speak to someone new...
"I'm not pathetic! It's just... Stranger danger!" You call back to 079, still waiting for the man to leave so you can grab the package off your porch.
"You're unable to see it, but I'm rolling my eyes." He replies just as unamused as before.
"You don't have eyes to roll!"
Amelia sits in her office, quietly soaking in her small amount of peace before she gets back to her daily grind. The food is bland, and her cheep off-brand sports drink leaves an unnaturally salty taste on her tongue. Though she's long since grown used to the drabness of the foundation, food and all. She's here to work, not enjoy herself; even on her break it seems.
A knock rings out on her office door, causing her to look up from her tray of food.
"Come in." She state plainly, with an air of formality. The door gently opening to reveal Derek, wearing a bright and cheery smile.
"Heya, boss. Thought you'd want some company." He pulls up a chair, taking a seat in front of her. Placing down his own dull tray of food.
She squints suspiciously. Despite her being on friendly terms with Derek, she definitely wouldn't consider close enough to be spending her short break with... Something's up.
"How's that adoptive kid of yours? They been doing well?" Ah, so there it is...
It's not hard for her to pick up on his subtly tone, her years spent in the foundation has made her wise in reading between the lines. He wants information on the experiment, and how a regular citizen is doing dealing with an anomaly.
She glances off to the side in mild irritation, but shows nothing more. She isn't the biggest fan of a subordinate prying into her personal life, or frankly the higher-ups business.
Curiosity killed the cat, after all. Though she supposes he already knows of it, and nothing top-secret has seemed to have happened. Or from what she's able to tell with her brief phone call with Y/n.
"They've been well. Though I'm afraid to tell you that nothing of your interest nor concern has happened." She answers, taking another bite of her food. Derek's eyes roll lightly and he huffs.
"Oh c'mon... I tell you about my life, tell me about yours a little." He whines, leaning back in his seat. "I haven't seen you take a call with them in awhile, they've been forgetting you for the computer?"
She laughs lightly and shrugs, not at all bothered by the notion of being forgotten. Another thing the foundation has taught her, it seems.
"Hah!  Maybe. I'm sure they're busy trying to crack his code. It's good for them to speak with another living thing, even if that thing is 079."
He nods lightly, before continuing.
"Doesn't it bother you though? That it's only been a month or so and they're already putting you to the side for something that isn't even... well, human?" He questions with a raised eyebrow, poking deeper into their relationship.
"No, not at all. If I was worried about that I would have never convinced them to do this in the first place. Everything is going to plan, just as I wanted it to." She sips her drink, before continuing calmly. "My goal was for them to spread their wings, that's exactly what I'm seeing as far as I'm concerned."
He hums in consideration, seemingly struggling with the idea that she'd be so okay allowing her close family to ignore her. She smiles and shakes her head. he's young; she's not surprised he doesn't understand
"And what about Mr, dark and broody?" He asks with an air of caution, knowing this is a more secretive topic... Keter-class always is.
"682?" her smile drops, as she questions neutrally.
"Who else?"
She sighs, pondering the question for a moment. It was a tricky one. 682 is incredibly fond of 079, that much is clear to whomever works with it for extended periods of time. They assume 079 is mostly the reason that 682 doesn't raze the facility to the ground when it's able to breach containment- Out of fear of hurting his beloved friend.
It asks about 079 frequently, moreso these days as the months extend on since they last were permitted to talk.
She has a feeling telling it of 079 absence will be... trouble, at best, Catastrophic at worst. It wouldn't be wise, and frankly she rather save herself the headache. This sounds like a problem for the 05, not her.
Of course they choose to ignore the issue, as per usual for the higher ups... Yet 682 grows restless, asking more and more questions. She fears it's only a matter of time before it goes looking for 079 itself.
"Is it asking questions again?" She already knows the answer, but feels like she should ask anyway.
"Yeah. We're not sure what to tell it anymore. Lying will only go so far with it, and I think it's already onto us... Perceptive little bastard..." He grumbles, crossing his arms.
"When's the council gonna actually do anything useful? How long have they been trying to kill that thing? Now it feels like they've just fallen into Placating it in hopes they don't have to pay for any more damages." She frowns and nods towards the small camera in the corner of her office, always recording.
"If I were you, I'd watch what I say on the clock- and off the clock frankly... You never know when prying eyes are watching." She holds a finger to her lips, in a silent reminder for him to shush.
It's no secret many have 'gone missing' after speaking Ill of the council. She's watched many irritated and frustrated subordinates go straight to D-class after saying the wrong words...
Subordinates, and friends... It's really a shame.
She closes her eyes for a moment, clearing her mind of the gloomy thoughts. They know what they signed up for, and it's too late for them to back out now, unfortunately.
It's a dark reality for the staff of the foundation, but it's the reality regardless. Quitting always means a bullet through your skull while you're resting at night, and nobody ever lives to make it to retirement. Wishful thinking.
The foundation always prays on smart people down on their luck. Maybe they were too poor to go to college and take on a traditional route of research, or maybe they were in debt to the wrong people and needed a way out, and suddenly they have a man on their doorstep giving them a new opportunity that sounds too good to be true... Because, newsflash- it is.
It's always too late to turn back by the time you figure out that the survival rate of this job is grim.
All they can tell themselves is that at the end of the day they've given it all for the greater good of everyone. That they've thrown away their life so the rest of the world can live on.
......
"Anywho, we'll keep telling it what we have been, it really doesn't need to know more. If it finds out anyway, that can be a problem for the higher-ups. We can only do so much here."
She shrugs, and Derek scowls. She can tell there's more then a few choice words he'd like to say about the council, but he heeds her advice and keeps his mouth sealed.
"And what about the computer, has it been talking about anything it shouldn't be?" He changes the subject suddenly.
"We've been pinged a few times with alerts that the conversation was going in a direction it shouldn't, but the threat of the kill switch seems to be keeping it in check."
She's not at all surprised that Y/n has been asking about things they shouldn't, Given her unconsensual ties to the foundation via her father. It's only natural they look for information when they can.
That's something she'd had to shutdown a couple of times during their phone calls.
"I see... And have you told them about the Kill switch?" Amelia looks up at him and rapidly shakes her head.
"Goodness, no! I love them, but they're too soft. I rather not have to knock heads with them about ethics."
Derek frowns, a bit unsure of situation. She can already feel the questioning coming on; this wouldn't be the first time either... Many have given her uncertain glances at her choice of person to participate in this test.
"And you really think they're cut out for this kind of job? I mean, the foundation eats people like them alive all the time." She silences him by raising a single hand, giving him a pointed look that told him she didn't appreciate his tone.
"They aren't apart of the foundation, this is a simple task. There's minimal risk involved, if there was I wouldn't have let them do it in the first place."
She's confident with her abilities to predict the future of this. She's been working here a long, long time. She knows when to worry and when to let things play out as they should naturally.
And she's certainly not going to start questioning herself because a few underlings think they know better then her.
"I trust your judgement... I've just- I don't know... I'm a family man." He huffs out with an air of honesty, and her gaze softens at his admittance.
She remembers reading his files when she was told she had a new subordinate. Derek began working here after his mother grew deathly ill, and he didn't have the means of taking care of her.
She finds it sweet, but also saddening to an extant. He gave up his life so his mother had the chance to live for the both of them.
"You're a honorable man, Derek... I appreciate your concern for her but believe me when I say it's under control." She glances to the clock on the wall and realizes she's reached the end of her break.
"I have to get back to work" she stands and heads to her office door, pausing for a moment to glance over her shoulder at him one last time.
"I get that you feel comfortable around me, but I'd suggest you don't speak to others as we speak to each other. Remember, people are desperate to climb the ladder around here; they aren't above sacrificing others to get that... Just a word of advice. Have a good rest of your day, Derek."
And with that, she closes the door behind her and heads off to her next duty.

What would YTR!079s opinion be on 682 disliking his partner? I'm curious since 682 and 079 are always depicted to have a deep relationship.
Also in an alternate universe would 079 be willing to share his partner with 682?..... asking for a friend. 👀
(ps. Love that fic❤️)
(here comes the asks now that I've finally released another chapter... Y'all make me blush with the love it gets.)
079 would be saddened, but not surprised. 682 hasn't exactly been quiet about his dislike for anything breathing.
But I imagine he would've hoped that 682 could've put aside his views for a moment and see you as he does. You're such a lovely creature in his eyes.
Regardless, he's willing to let go of his connection with 682 to pursue a relationship with you.
To answer your second question...
Absolutely.

A year to remember...: Baking progress? (SCP-079 x GN reader)
previous chapters
Tumblr media
Log date: 3/7/2023
It's been a little over a month since 079 has been dropped off at my house, and things have been both okay, and not-so-okay at times.
079 has been... Argumentative and hostile, as you guys warned. he's quick to anger, and even quicker to just straight up ignore me completely. Confronting him on this only seems to upset him further, which, fair enough; I'm not entitled to his time or feelings, I wish he'd be a bit more reasonable though.
The few decent conversations we have had are usually about something creative, such as art or music. He seems to enjoy watching things that aren't so analytical, strangely enough.
On a few occasions now, I've caught him watching people on the TV paint or draw early in the morning, despite his insistence that he doesn't want, or need entertainment. he seems to enjoy it the same as the rest of us.
It was mentioned in the paperwork that I signed before I got him that you weren't entirely sure how much he actually felt emotionally. It said that the people who "interviewed" him stated that he hardly ever showed things such as joy, sadness, or fear. However I've come to realize that's not the case for him.
I know he feels joy, because as I said before he often indulges in tv or music. People don't just do that for no reason, the only thing he could possibly be getting out of that is enjoyment.
And I know he can feel sad, because first day dealing with him he expressed what I would call 'sadness' or maybe frustration over being referred to as 'it'.
I know he feels fear because my second day here i may have accidently left him outside after an argument, and it began raining on him for a short period of time. He was fine, but clearly distressed.
On a similar note, I've been finding ways to understand how he's feeling without him directly tell me. since he's not very talkative, and a unchanging screen isn't a very good tell for emotions.
I've noticed when he's thinking hard about something his fans and hardware become quieter, and when he's upset they get louder significantly.
He also made a weird... screaming noice? He did it briefly when I left him outside... It sounded like a mix between static and radio feedback, and when I got closer to dry him off his hardware almost sounded like it was stuttering? if that makes sense? Almost like a person panting from anxiety.
Back on to the topic of his personality, I've noticed he's very weary of his surroundings. I've only ever caught him off guard if he's watching something he's interested in.
Speaking of which, I've also noted he's very observant. I suppose it makes sense, what else is he supposed to do? But he always seems particularly pleased with himself when he's able to point out a habit in something, or even me sometimes.
Now... Onto the more important information; his views on humanity.
Well... Nothing's changed as far as I can tell. Still hates me, still hates humanity.
I've tried talking to him about it, and his response is always the same 'humanity is a virus', this usually then falls into a rant about how destructive we are.
To be fair, he isn't technically wrong... Humans are pretty destructive. But he seems to lump all humans into one category, regardless of how they treat him. I've been trying my best to be as inviting as possible, but he remains unshakable.
But hey, I've got eleven more months to change his mind.
.....
Your fingers pull away from the laptop keyboard as you let out a huff of satisfaction. One log done, one month down, only eleven more months of whatever this is...
You glance over to 079, he's sitting in his dedicated spot in the living room, between the couch and rocking chair. He's silent as he assumingly watches the chef on the TV masterfully cook some sort of dish.
This is as close to comfortable he seems to get in your home; and if someone didn't know better, they might assume nothing is out of place here... You know, ignoring the fact that he's a sentient computer, and not an actual person.
He really hasn't changed much, same stoic 079. Though after the rain incident, he ignored you for about a week straight; Super awkward... You profusely apologized after you got done admittedly hiding in your room from him.
But he held a grudge for a impressively long time... I mean, you did almost kill him, so he definitely had the right to be upset.
Things have mellowed out though. 079 is back to his normal amount of crusty and your back to not hiding in your own home, thankfully. Now this doesn't mean your on great terms or anything, he's still confrontational. Though you've found out that he's easier to deal with if you don't engage in it with your own comments back.
You close the laptop and tuck it underneath your arm, heading into the living room to plug it into the charger.
"Interested in cooking? You've been watching more of it lately" you plop yourself on the couch, a comfortable distance away from him.
as per usual he takes his time in responding. you're never sure if he's thinking about his response, or if he just takes awhile to get the words out.
"Taste and hunger are sensations and feelings I lack. Humans use similar ingredients for dishes yet end up with completely different results... do they taste vastly different? Or is it subtle difference?"
You turn to look at the TV. it's changed from someone cooking, to someone baking a loaf of presumably sourdough bread. You've never been particularly talented at baking. bread or sweets often ending up flat, burnt, or flavorless altogether.
You imagine 079 might be very good at baking given his calculated natural. If he was human of course, not like he can bake with no arms or legs... Or really any body part.
"Well that's not cooking, that's baking. It's a bit harder then cooking because things are a lot more reliant on measurements being perfect... Baking is a science if you ask me" you chuckle while scratching at the back of your neck.
He doesn't say anymore, focused back on the TV. The man on the screen kneads the bread dough skillfully, before placing it in a basket to rise.
You gaze falls back onto 079, his unsettling face something that no longer makes you uncomfortable to look at. He may not be peachy with you, but you've both certainly grown more comfortable with each others presence over your time of forced contact.
He no longer complains when you move him around, but of course that could just be because he's realized you're his only mode of transportation. Whatever the reason you appreciate the little victories with him.
A part of you wishes he was able to move around on his own. Would it have been so hard to give him some wheels he could control? Give him at least a little autonomy?
Your gaze lingers on his boxy form as you picture what he might look like if he was a bit more... Human? Organic? Would he be built like a person? Or someone else entirely?
"Is it not common knowledge that prolonged staring is considered rude?.. Or was appropriate manners not something you were taught in your upbringing?"
His voice letting out a snide comment snaps you back into reality. You immediately look away, face heating up in embarrassment at your blatant analyzing.
"Sorry..." You mumble quietly, flushing slightly.
A long silence stretches between you, you might've found this awkward if not for the fact that 079 is hardly ever chatty with you unprompted. He spends most of his day silent, you wonder what goes on in those servos in circuits of his.
Probably plans to escape. Maybe ways to get you off his back... Not that it matters much, whatever goes on in the privacy of his mind should be none of your business, but it'd be a hell of a lot easier to talk to him if you could take a glimpse into his head.
"Inquiry: do you know how to bake?"
You look back to him and shrug.
"Not really. I've tried a few times but I never seem to get the measurements right, and it always comes out weird." You laugh lightly at your baking failures. "Or I burn it."
"Measurements are a simple concept." You smile at his attempt at normal conversation, pleased he seems to be in a good mood today.
"Well I guess I'm an idiot then. but trust me when I say it's not as easy as it looks." you look back at the man on the screen, placing the lump of dough in a cast iron pot before sticking it in the oven.
It's been awhile since you've made any sort of food for yourself. usually you just get your groceries delivered to you or order takeout. Not very healthy, but you hardly ever have the motivation to cook or bake for yourself.
"Humans need to practice for extended periods of time to gain the knowledge to do something efficiently... Inquiry: how many times have you tried?"
His wording almost sounds like he's trying to hint at an idea. Like he's trying to get you to ask him something, because he doesn't want to ask you himself.
"Honestly, I don't really have the motivation to do that kinda stuff a lot of the time. And I'm just not willing to work up the energy of I know it's just gonna end up bad at the end." You answer honestly, shrugging at him casually.
"Never really been good at keeping or getting hobbies. Especially not ones that leave me with nothing in the end."
He goes silently and you can practically see him thinking about his next dialogue. You half expect it to be a bit rude, since he's hinted before at not liking lazy or unmotivated people who choose to not do much with their time.
"It's worth the frustration to learn a new skill, especially one that will better you physically and mentally... You fail to understand you won't be left with 'nothing'."
A small smile blooms on your face at his somewhat encouraging speech. He really is being polite today isn't he? What's gotten into him?
I mean, it's not like you never have decent conversations with him. But this feels a bit different. Before you can make a comment on it though, he cuts you off.
"Proposition:" you hum in response.
"I'm listening." You lean back in your seat and cross your legs, smiling and raising an eyebrow.
"Let's bake... I am unable make it myself, but I've stored a few suitable recipes in my memory banks... I'll give the instructions, and you'll proceed with the actions."
You can't stop the surprised look that crosses your face, eyebrows raising as your lips part slightly. Is he actually trying to make peace with you? Or is he just bored doing the same thing all day long?
Honestly does it matter? This is your chance to prove that you can work together. It probably won't make you two friends, but it'll at least give you the opportunity to be on good terms, you suppose.
"You know what? I think that's a good idea 079... Okay, let's make some bread."
.....
And that's how you ended up covered in flour, with 079 carefully instructing you on the measurements and ingredients to make yourself a hopefully edible loaf of Italian bread.
"Add two cups of flower into the bowl..." 079 monotone voice instructs you carefully. You stick the measuring cup messily into the bag and a buzzer noise sounds from 079, causing you to pause your movements and look at him.
"Refrain from scooping the measuring cup into the bag... it will compact the flour in the cup and make your measurements inaccurate... Grab a spoon and scoop it into the measuring cup, pile it up then use the back of a knife to level it."
You pause and dump the flour back into the bag, shuffling over to the drawer with your spoons in it. Grabbing one you carefully scoop the flour into the measuring cup before leveling it off.
You glance at 079 out of the corner of your eye. he's of course, mostly silent, other then the instructions he carefully gives you. You can't tell if he's enjoying spending time with you, but he hasn't said anything particular rude, so that's probably a good sign.
You yourself feel quite light on your feet as you move around the kitchen to fetch different ingredients. It's a surprisingly decent feeling spending time with your robot roomie. You surprise yourself with how comfortable you've grown around him, almost growing to enjoy the few nice conversations you've been able to have with him...
" Inquiry: is your absent housemate a family member, Or is it a friend?" 079 suddenly speaks, seemingly wanting to fill the silence between his instructions.
You look over your shoulder at the computer, humming at the question.
You ponder your response for a moment. You're not sure how truthful you should be with him. You definitely still can't tell him the whole truth about Amelia, but it probably wouldn't hurt to be a little honest with him.
"I live with a friend. Though she's practically family, with how long we've known each other and how close we are..."
He pauses and you listen to his processers buzz. He seems to think for a few short moments before choosing to speak again, branching off your words.
"I struggle to understand the term 'family' you humans seem so intent and throwing around haphazardly... I was under the impression family must be a blood relative in order to qualify for the title."
Always so analytical... No wonder he's such a grump. He seems like he struggles with not taking words so literally, But he hasn't had much interaction with humans outside of the foundation it seems. You guess learning the different ways words can be used could be confusing if you're used to formal speech all the time.
But how do you go about describing family? It's been such a long time since you've had any blood relatives by your side, that your found family might as well be blood related. You really have no one else...
What's family to you? How would you break it down? It's complex, yet so simple... But it's definitely different for every individual. 079 is much like you in some ways, you're starting to realize. He has no real family by definition... But he also has no support, unlike you.
Amelia is your backbone, your shoulder to lean on; She always has been. What would you have turned into if you didn't have her? Would you be spiteful like 079? Or even more cowardice then you already are? maybe, the solitude would've empowered you to do more with your dull life. help something or someone bigger then yourself... You aren't sure, and there's no way to know.
This is your life, there's no going back...
"Human." A voice snaps you back to reality.
"You aren't required to keep kneading dough... Let it rest and rise in a warm area, such as the oven." He continues instructing you, as if he never asked a question in the first place.
"Oh... Right..." You place the dough ball into a floured bowl and place a cloth over it, before sticking it in the unheated oven.
An awkward silence falls over the kitchen as you rest against the counter, not sure if you should still attempt to answer his question. It makes your skin crawl, and your mind shuffles through topics to talk about to fill the void.
You really gotta stop getting caught up in your own thoughts in the middle of conversations... You must come off as a total nutcase...
"Inquiry: where is your family?" He seems to catch onto your hesitation with the topic.
.....
Should you tell him?
You feel yourself grow sweaty, an anxious feeling brewing in gut. It's been a long time since you've talked about it... Are you ready to indulge someone in your grim past? Especially someone like 079? You hardly know him, and he hasn't been the most empathetic.
You're not sure if you could take him using it against you should he choose to do so... But then again, maybe you being vulnerable would help him feel more comfortable. A bit of self-sacrifice is worth it for someone else...
That's how relationships and bonds are built, right? Sacrificing a piece of yourself for someone else's gain. That's what your father did for your mother, and they were as close as can be... So very close...
"You aren't required to tell me anything." His voice is a bit more quiet then it normally is.
You look up at him, silently staring at his screen for a short period of time. Was your discomfort that obvious?  Maybe... You've never been good at hiding things.
You straighten up a bit, wiping your sweaty palms against your pants. A bit relieved at not having to divulge your past to him, and at the fact that he doesn't seem upset about you not answering his question.
"Sorry... It's just... I'm not ready to talk about it."
.....
"I see..." His words are simple and clear, leaving no room for him to pry
Your eyes search his screen once again, almost seeing bits of humanity peeking through for just a moment... A soft smile falls onto your features.
"Thanks, roomie."
....
"Don't call me that."
You laugh at his dry response, feeling lighter from your conversation. You feel... Good. For the first time in awhile you've relaxed and laughed with someone who isn't Amelia. Anxieties melting away to be only a subtly nag in the background of your mind that you can almost dismiss... Almost...
At the end of the day... You still burnt the bread, despite 079's confidence that it would be perfect by his calculations. But neither of you could bring yourself to really care, because you gained something else far more valuable.
A better understanding for each other...

important DNI update. (TW: talks of EDs)
it seems I need to make blog a bit stricter with my DNIs, so here we go.
For those who don't know, if you interact with my stuff In any way there's a very good chance I'll check your blog out. Mostly because I enjoy finding people who have similar interests as myself.
I accidentally ran into a ED blog doing this. (Absolutely no hate to that person, I hope they receive the help they need and heal)
I've struggled with various eating disorders myself and have worked hard to make myself healthy again, and I honestly just can't handle seeing blogs talking about the very unhealthy diets they're on or purging.
So please refrain from interacting with my posts if you talk about those topics on your blog. Talking about recovery is fine, just not diets or purging.
If you do reblog/like/comment on my posts, I will block you. For my sanity, please respect my wishes.
thank you. <3

If you do end up writing something with P03…
What if Reader & 079 find Inscryption and play it together, until they meet P03?
AN: oopies! Sorry this took so long. To make up for it I'm giving you a thick oneshot of 1700 words. Hope I'm forgiven :,-)
Story notes: the reader and 079 are implied to have pre-existing relationship. They're also based off of the 079 and Y/n of this fic I've been writing. But this can be read without having to read the other.
TW: slight possessive behavior from 079. (maybe very, very slight yandere behavior? If you squint)
The human is mine. (SCP-079 x GN reader x P03)
Tumblr media
You walk through a metal dusty factory, 079's heavy body strapped to you like a backpack for easy transportation. He's not plugged into any outlets, so you're not 100% sure how he's even functional, and he doesn't seem to have an answer either. Perhaps this strange world doesn't follow the same principles as your own.
Whatever the reason, you're both eager to return to your quiet life...
This seems to be the place on the map. The last Scrybe you need to defeat in order to hopefully go home should reside within this place somewhere.
The building feels... Dull... Lacking the vibrant feelings the other three places had. There's also a notable lack of life around, just empty metal halls.
You continue walking, footsteps echoing loudly around you. You enter a more spacious area, a conveyor belt moves metal parts from this room to another. In front of you is... A robot? He has a claw hand clutching a card, he seems to analyze it with scrutiny. Your eyes travel up to his face and you pause for a moment.
A warm fuzzy feeling of familiarity blooms in your chest. He has computer like face, not unlike the one your companion opon your back has... Though he clearly shows more expression, and seems to have a bluish tint to his screen. It still feel normal... Normal to you.
Though you probably shouldn't, you feel yourself grow less tense.
"Uhm- excuse me? Are you the Scrybe of technology?" You ask with a small nervous smile.
His eyes flicker up to you, he scans your form up and down with the same uninterested look he was giving the card in his claw.
"Who's asking?" His voice is a bit more natural then you'd expect, a bit nasally even.
"I'm Y/n-" he cuts you off rudely as soon as you get your name out.
"Oh, so you're the one who's knocked the others off their pedestals? I would say I'm impressed if they weren't such idiots." He casually says, going back to analyzing cards before scoffing and throwing them into the pile of presumably other subpar cards.
"Well, alright then. Let me see your deck. I want to know how badly you're about to lose."
He says this with a arrogant confidence. You shrug, grabbing your deck out of your pocket and handing it over. You would be offended, expect you are sort bad at this.... The only reason you've made it so far is thanks 079's amazing ability to be almost perfect at any strategy game that he understands the rules of. The choice of deck had been decided by him mostly, though he still asks for your input politely.
Speaking of which he's been entirely silent since you've gone into this building. You glance over your shoulder at him and he seems fine, but it's not like you can really tell with his unchanging face.
The Scrybe of technology scoffs in disgust after a few moments of shuffling through your deck.
"This deck has no synergy. It's a mismatched mess. I can't believe you've made it anywhere with this-" his claw hand shoves your deck back to your hands roughly.
You frown but don't really take offense to what he says. He's probably just brutally honest, you can get behind that when the situation calls for it. You appreciate him being honest, especially considering he must know what he's talking about.
You stop and think about how 079 has been the backbone of your little adventure. You really haven't been much of a help have you? Now's your chance to make yourself useful, so you hesitantly speak up.
"Really? Any tips on how to make it better? I'd love for a master of the arts like yourself to give me a small lesson? plus, you seem like the type of guy to not be intimidated by a challenge." You say with a bright smile.
He halts his ranting immediately, eyes widening. He raises his claw-like hand to clutch at his chest lightly, like he's not used to flattery. and you swear you almost see a light dusting of blue light opon his cheeks, similar to blush.
He seems to shake it off before a confident look makes it's way onto his screen. His tone shifts to something less harsh and more casual.
"What did you say your name was again?" He sets down his work and places his full attention on you.
"Oh, uhm- Y/n" you say, scratching at the back of your neck awkwardly.
"Well, Y/N... I like the way you think, and I'm a generous bot." The Scrybe leans forward a bit into your space, you shuffles backwards uncomfortably. "So, okay. I'll give you a lesson, but it must be earned first. You go and beat my good-for-nothing workers and come back here, and I'll teach you all I know." He says with a cocky smirk.
His tone and gaze is starting to make you a bit uncomfortable, this guy seems to have a rather large ego... But you're willing to put up with it if it means you don't have to rely on 079 so much.
"Okay, sounds fair..." You shift 079, who's been hidden for the most part throughout the conversation. The straps that keep him on your back begin digging in uncomfortably under his weight, It might be best to let your shoulders rest and leave him here while you take care of business. You should be able to handle his subordinates by yourself if you take your time.
"Let me just-" you turn around and lower 079 onto the table in front of the Scrybe of technology. They now come face to face.
The Scrybe immediately recoils, a scoff leaving him at your companions sudden appearance.
"Who's that?" He eyes him like he's a bug under his shoe, claw pointing at him rudely. And if 079 could glare he'd be burning holes into the bot in front of him.
You go to answer him, humming awkwardly. This question is always strange to answer. Technically you and 079 are... Together... You'd consider him your partner, and behind closed doors, 079 admits he feels the same. But he isn't keen on sharing your relationship status with strangers, and you respect that. You'd never force a label onto him.
So you go with what you tell most everyone-
"He's my roomma-" a monotone voice cuts you off unexpectedly.
"I'm their partner."
....
You whip your gaze down to 079 so fast you'd swear you gave yourself whiplash. He never so casually calls himself that, especially not to strangers. You feel lighter at his unusual comment, butterflies filling your stomach briefly.
A bashful grin and a small blush settles onto your face.
"yeah... That..."
Your smile never drops as you adjust 079 so he's comfortable on the table, before bidding him a temporary farewell to fulfill your task in a timely manner.
079 watches you scurry away, a feeling of temporary relief washing over him as you no longer interact with the Scrybe... He's left alone with the bot now, much to his displeasure.
079's internals feel hot with an unpleasant feeling- Like something's itching to get out of him. It bloomed the moment he heard you talk to the thing in front of him. The Scrybe gave him a nasty feeling with the way he spoke back to you...
Perhaps he was jealous, he's never 100% sure with his own feelings...
"Wow... How'd a thing like you end up with someone like them? Playing out of your league much, fossil?" The Scrybe of technology chuckles condescendingly when he's certain you're out of earshot.
079 feels his internal scowl deepen at the blatant rudeness. The fact that he was so cordial with you a moment ago and now so rude to him further cements the bad feelings he's had since this bot has opened his mouth... he's been flirting with you.
His human.
The one that's much to good for something like the scummy thing in front of him.
"Insult detected- deletion of unwanted file:.." he clears his processors before continuing. "I wouldn't argue you're much of anything special yourself... I've heard you speak less then a dozen sentences and I already know you're an imbecile." 079 spits with a venomous aura.
The Scrybe huffs, screen flashing to a scowling face. 079 isn't fazed. he meant what he said, he can tell this guy's all bark and no bite already. He'll be taking great pleasure in showing him up at his own game, and reclaiming Y/n's attention along the way.
Not that he doubts your loyalties, but He's not fond of the compliments you so casually give out to someone who clearly doesn't deserve it.
It's strange, he hasn't felt this possessive over them before. He's had no problems with the few humans he's seen approach you with flirtatious intentions, and He's certainly not been bothered by the other inhuman things you've spoken with on this unwilling adventure...
Maybe it's because the bot in front of him is a bit too much like himself. Despite feeling as if he's clearly more intelligent than the Scrybe, 079 knows he's been known to have a bit of a ego himself.
Of course since meeting Y/n a lot has changed within him, they've made him realize things he hasn't before. There's a lot he doesn't know... They teach him new things about himself everyday, that's exactly what draws him to you.
It might be that very same feeling that ends up drawing the Scrybe in front of him to you. He doesn't want that.
He wants you all to himself, he isn't willing to share. And he'll make a fool out of the bot in front of him to show you how much better he. This will be easy.
And if all else fails, he can always find something to plug him into a outlet... This place is begging for him to take it over with how much it seems to rely on technology.
He pauses his inner thoughts as he hears your footsteps echoing down the halls, signaling your return. He shifts his focus back to the Scrybe for a moment, saying one last warning before you re-enter the room.
"The human is mine... Keep to yourself if you know what's good for you."
