dean and cas are literally so stupid it makes me want to rip my hair out.. every conversation they have is undercut with their feelings for each other for over a decade and in the beginning it isn't even subtle because cas blatantly tells dean everything he does is for him. it really isn't until after cas becomes god/goes to purgatory that he learns to conceal part of what he feels and he stops being as earnest and shameless in what he says to dean. and they're both saying the same thing to each other but in different ways and in the EXACT way that the other can't understand like dean shows his emotions through actions moreso than anything and even his actions are contained for the most part which is something of a blind spot for cas because it's so HUMAN. whereas cas just blatantly stated his desires and motivations but dean cannot comprehend the magnitude of what cas is saying to him. and by the time they learn to read each other they're so bogged down with history & regrets & things unsaid that they don't communicate clearly. i need to stand in a field miles away from civilization and scream
