I know the old windows aesthetic really fucks for some people but if only they knew how painful it is to work with at the moment. Granted, it most certainly wasn't designed to be run on modern hardware, so I'm gonna chalk it up to the fact that I'm running this on a macbook.

Following up on that one game I mentioned in my first post that I said I'd talk about that never did, that in reality doesn't matter because I don't think anybody I know is reading this so I can post whatever I want
It's called RadioRunner or whatever.
Tumblr media
(PNG) The RadioRunner running menu.
It's about radios. It takes place in the same universe as ANOTHER game I've been working with off and on for about two years now, called Wasteland Mechanic.
Wasteland Mechanic is about fixing cars. RadioRunner is about fucking around with radios in a dingy broadcast tower before the second wave of nukes come.
The main story of Wasteland Mechanic is that every single Fallout game happened at once in the span of 30 minutes and now the united states government is about to make a comeback in the most unimpressive way possible: by asking some random fuckin grease monkey to fix a bunch of cars that are owned by survivors so they can make a cross-country roadtrip from some small town in Washington state to Washington DC.
RadioRunner takes place after the trip occurs and the government brings back the things it was once famous for: the military, and the national oceanic and atmospheric administration. I'm wanting it to have multiple options for the player to either play as a talk show host (the fun dialogue set), a public radio news station, or a survivor relay just reading out weather data and summaries of events going on in the area.
I'm not good at coding, and I'm doing this in Python3. This is currently being pushed to a private repository on github. If you for some reason want to stalk my page until I make a demo public or look at the other embarrassing programs on my page you can find it here.
Anyways, I'm getting back to work on Compartment soon, cause I'm lazy.

Vectorizing CSED
Tumblr media
(PNG) Now with 88% more suffering at half the cost, cause bezier curves are kinda painful.
Now in some cases, one might prefer to use vector objects over pixel-y raster images. I personally prefer the amount of detail you can put into hard edged pixel graphics, but I've noticed it's not that good for common applications like animation and 2D game rendering. So I'm attempting to vectorize every gun currently in the CSED document just to offer more options and so I can actually animate a gun for the first time in what feels like years. Animate REALLY does not like low-resolution images.
I'm going to put together a zip archive of all the CSED files I have currently in raster form, then I'll post the vectors.
As with everything I will be talking about on this blog, CSED will be free to use and edit for any purpose, (but really, there are better options out there, why not use those...?)

Anyways, that's all for this post. Be seeing y'all soon when I get my new camcorder next week, cause I'm going to be talking about my old attempts at making films and my newest escapade into a form of media I shouldn't be messing with. Have a good one!

Compartment creation log #1
Alternative title: Blender, Lose It™ edition
Tumblr media
(PNG) Frame 15 of the current animation for the J-turn.
Sooooo before I started posting I was experimenting with a lot of things. Namely using 3D animations and tracing over them in 2D to make a decent looking drawing that kept a style at least. Most of this was done by going frame by frame and tracing over each notable feature. This was the result.
Tumblr media
(GIF) Progress so far on the J-turn animation.
Obviously it's not the best. Things seem to warp and distort as the chassis recoils from the door slamming. Timing isn't that great either. Fixing those sould be easy but I'm currently focusing on portions that are closer to the beginning of Compartment.
Tumblr media
(PNG) Nicky looks decent in digital.
And again, all of this is a major work in progress. More will be released soon.

CSED and an addendum on my memory (or lack thereof)
I forgot why I even did this.
Tumblr media
(PNG) The CSED pack of weaponry, as of it's last update.
And by that I mean that I had a purpose when I began, but by the end I had no clue why it was even started. CSED was going to be something, I just don't know what.
The only real clue I have to the original purpose is a single .lsd file in the same folder as all the photoshop files. Whatever that means.
Tumblr media
(PNG) The lone .lsd file, of unknown origin.
Tumblr media
(PNG) Me remembering that I forgot.
Oh boy, when I find out what I was doing, it's probably going to be some inane bullshit. We'll see.

Flint's Expanded Media: Exploring writing
AKA: Holy shit, I can't edit XML.
Flint's Expanded Media is going to be a mod for Project Zomboid (starting to notice the pattern with zombies here?) that adds to the existing radio and TV broadcasts in the game, or overwrites them entirely, based on which mod in the pack you enable.
Tumblr media
(PNG) Main mod thumbnail
Flint's Expanded Media: Main
The main mod focuses on adding vanilla-friendly broadcasts that add to the lore but still follows the rules Zomboid's media already follows:
All the businesses are in-universe
Military don't give a fuck
No hope
Nobody knows what caused the virus
Everybody's fucked within 10 days or your money back
I'm planning to add more channels like Life and Living where you get to learn more from the TV than you would in a vanilla game, as well as adding more lore via news radio and making more VHS tapes to give more views on how the initial outbreak was for different people.
Tumblr media
(PNG) The Coalition mod thumbnail
Flint's Expanded Media: The Coalition
The Coalition takes Zomboid's main lore and just chucks it out the window. This mod is meant to take place 10 years after the outbreak. So set that erosion level to 12 months, baby! It's time for dead car batteries and a whole lotta green!
The new broadcasts provided by the Coalition sub-mod focus on telling the story of a somewhat reclaimed America (sound familiar?) 10 years after the Knox event. If I get skilled enough at LUA I might make a hook for the superior/subpar/superb survivors mod to spawn special NPCs. Not sure yet.
Both mods are still heavily under development in both technical and story aspects. I've been working on it for a while now, but it's been off and on, unfortunately. More will be posted about it later.

My main project: Compartment
About that.
So Compartment came to me while I was on summer vacation without any access to a computer, and I initially tried to draw characters out on paper, which somewhat succeeded, but only on one! Yippee!
Tumblr media
(PNG) Hi Nicky!!!! :D
As you can tell already, I'm not that good at art. I'm hoping that the fact that I can make things move in cool ways sometimes is Compartment's saving grace.
Tumblr media
(GIF) This is Blake, the main character. Probably should've opened with him.
All of this is a first draft really. At this point all the things I'll be posting will be as if someone snatched a paper out of someone's hand who only had 2 days to work on a semester-long project. Things are broken. Things don't look right.
I'll give more about the story sooner or later once I iron out a bunch of minuscule details nobody will know or care about once I release Compartment. All that's concrete as of yet is that it's going to be a look into Blake as he lives his life in a rebuilt city after a zombie apocalypse in 2011 pretty much ruined everything. Life is normal though, and only a teensy bit of the comedy is based around life in Compartment being much like ours now.
I'll be complaining about making this a lot despite it being my favourite project so far.

Good evening, among other things
Hey. Some people call me Flint.
I'm eventually going to be using this blog to log my progress with (and complain about) multiple projects I'm working on. Including but not limited to:
Producing my own game from scratch (more on that later)
Coding a mod for Project Zomboid, Flint's Expanded Media
Animating a short film, Compartment
Making a sprite set for a mod I don't even know about, CSED
If you want to tag along in my insanity, stay tuned! I'll be posting what's happened so far on all of these projects soon.
