Oh look, it's my fic, says the one who created this sideblog to shout in the void and then turned her back on it to join a Discord server because it's better to shout in a place where someone answers.
Also, this server is awesome and so inspiring. 🙏
A lovely Cory/Salma microfic a member of the TMS Stellison server wrote for this week’s Microfic challenge “Broken.”

All the President's Men (1976) dir. Alan J. Pakula
Half the country never even heard of the word Watergate. Nobody gives a shit. Nothing's riding on this except the first amendment to the Constitution, freedom of the press, and maybe the future of the country.

Also, about that “battle for the soul of the universe” line…
Tumblr media
From corporate asshole shenanigans to superhero speech… to corporate shenanigans.
Cory Ellison just loves a good story. I don’t know if it’s his mother, patron of lost causes, who inspired him to look for the best stories in people, but at the beginning of the show he is that executive that has an eye for talent, be it in the entertainment or the news business.
Actually, everything is entertainment for him: a story is a story. Then he meets his favorite new character, except she’s not a fictional character, and maybe he never met someone that has both feet so firmly rooted in reality. He thought he saw the story in her but she’s a journalist: she isn’t the story, she brings the story. And what’s a better story than one that has real consequences on the world? How can he resist?
The soul of the universe, really? How sincere is he with that speech? He is a scheming asshole, and exposing the truth about Fred and the network was only serving his quest for the throne, right?
But he’s deposed when he makes that speech, what is it serving now?
Maybe he really cares about the soul of the universe.
Or maybe the story is better when at the end the martyr utters some epic last words.
"This really is the land that time forgot! All right, well, I did my best, but I cannot drag you idiots kicking and screaming into the 21st century. You’re just so caught up in ruling over your rotten little fiefdom that you don’t even see the world that has sprouted up all around you! All right, well, enjoy broadcasting your cave paintings to the last remaining savages who are still watching over-the-air broadcasting. The rest of the world, they’ve moved to the cloud, and it is fucking gorgeous up there! - Cory, if you'll excuse us, we have a television network we need to fix. - Well, get out that superglue!... Do you really think that’s what all this is about? Your little television network? This is a battle for the soul of the universe."
