Headcanon / Meta:
When Kara had to give up Mon-El to save Earth at the end of Supergirl season 2, Clark directly told her that he wouldn’t be able to do what she did.
“I'm humbled by you. Yeah, I'd like to think that if it came down to a choice between Lois and the world, but... I don't think I could. You are so much stronger than me. Stronger than I ever will be.”
Which is interesting for two reasons. First, it’s some (unintentional) foreshadowing for this arc on S&L, where Edge wants to bring Clark to his side and only gets him to do so by threatening to kill his family. Clark is given a very similar choice to Kara’s, and when he realizes he can’t protect them from Edge, he chooses to save his family, despite knowing the consequences of that decision. Granted it wasn’t an identical situation, Kara just had to send Mon-El away while Clark knew his family would die, but it’s still an interesting comparison.
The second is that Clark specifically mentions viewing Kara’s decision as a sign of strength... implying that he thinks his inability to do the same is a weakness. And honestly? It sort of is. Once Edge had Clark’s identity and knew about his family, that was it. Clark is willing to help wipe out the planet if it means his wife and sons are safe.
There’s a lot of guilt associated with that. Knowing that objectively, he should let the three people die to save millions, but emotionally being unable to do so. Then more guilt about feeling guilt over loving his family. It’s a mess of conflicting emotions, and the primary reason he is so fiercely protective of his secret identity. His worst nightmare is being put into this exact situation.
As an aside, if Edge had only threatened Lois, Clark might not have turned. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lois even told him directly once that if it came down to that kind of choice, Clark needs to let her go. And though it would absolutely break him, I do think Clark would be able to choose the world over Lois.
But not with his sons. Lois chose this life with a full understand of the risks involved, but they didn’t. They didn’t ask to be Superman’s kids, or to be burdened with any of this. And they’re so young. Clark would put their safety over anyone else’s, every time, without fail.

Could you do a superbat story with Superman’s supporting cast? You’ve done a lot with the robins and Alfred and whatnot so this perspective might be interesting. Something with Bruce being jealous of Lois’ closeness to Clark or something. Smut would be nice but not required.
Thanks for the prompt! It was finny to write Bruce this way -- usually, I see them more friendly but I could see this early on in Lois & Bruce's friendship☺️ Anywho, enjoy!
Clark Kent/Bruce Wayne
Jealousy, Brief Swearing, Friendship, Bruce Wayne isn't Good at Feelings, Lois Lane is the Best, Clark Kent is Trying
Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Alfred Pennyworth, Martha "Ma" Kent, Jonathan "Pa" Kent, Conner Kent, Kara Danvers, Jimmy Olsen, Cat Grant, Steve Lombard
Summary: Bruce isn't jealous. He doesn't get jealous. But that doesn't mean he isn't bothered by how close Lois and Clark are. He is still his boyfriend.

“Brucie dear, doesn’t this Versace dress just look fabulous on me? I had it personally made.”
Bruce knows he should respond to his date, flash her a predatory smile and whisper premeditated words Gotham’s most infamous playboy would say to his date in a Gala setting like this. Yet, he can’t seem to pry his eyes off of where Lois Lane’s manicured thumb is wiping off invisible crumbs from the corner of Clark Kent’s lips.
It bothers him more than it should for several reasons, but Bruce feels completely entitled to the nagging displeasure that arises in him every time Lois is around Clark, considering that he and Clark were dating.
“Bruce?” Caroline — Charlotte? — sticks her bottom lip out more petulantly, her eyebrows furrowed in a more pronounced way that makes her face look stiff. “I was asking you about my dress, baby.” She takes his hand and guides him to spin her around to get a better view of the diamond embroidered design. “What d’ya think?”
“What do I think?” He repeats dumbly, throat dry as he sneaks a look back over at his boyfriend.
His eye catches sight of where Clark had been sitting with Lois the better half of the evening as they listened to some audio quotes from intoxicated millionaires. He’s hunching down closer into Lois’ side, she pressed up firmly against him as their cheeks are close enough to be sandwiched against each other.
As much as their proximity brings out an untamed possessiveness Bruce rather wishes he hadn’t developed for Clark, that isn’t what bothers him.
It’s how okay Clark is with Lois that gets him.
Lois had been one of Clark’s last serious unhealthy infatuations before they started dating. From what Clark explained to him and Lois continually admits, they worked better as friends. Without a biased eye, Bruce however could easily see that they had an unmissable power couple potential that would undoubtedly garner more respect if the world knew the mild mannered reporter’s secret identity. Howbeit, they decided to never leave the friend zone.
Clark doesn’t have to repeatedly tell Bruce that Lois is only his best friend; he believes it. He can visibly see it’s true, anyone can. Their closeness, however, is what gets him.
It’s easy for Clark and Lois to talk, share vendor food and hearty laughs, cheer at Metropolis football games and investigate thrilling leads. It’s that closeness that hounds at every part of him
An unpleasant flicker of his anger starts to surge through his blood and he wants nothing more than to get Clark away from her.
“Brucie, your face is red,” Clementine — he knew her name started with a C — pointed out, cupping his face in her hands. “Are you alright?”
Clark and Lois’ laugh echoes across the ballroom and Bruce feels his eye twitch.
