I’m Jewish and dont Worry you shouldn’t give a fuck about the green skin thing it literally does not matter and affects no one, people are making an Astronomical fuss about nothing and it’s really fucking annoying
thank you for your concern! but it still seems like a sensitive topic to many people in the fandom since they’re constantly calling out artists?
upd: those. those probably were trolls im an idiot
AAAUUGGHH I LOVE YOUR ART SO MUCH!! You manage to capture Kirk and Spock so perfectly and I can't get over it!!! What brush do you use for your yellow and blue spirk drawings? It's so squiggly and scratchy
I love it, keep up the good work!! :-)
HIIII TYSM!!!!
i work in photoshop buttt to my own embarrassment i don’t really know anything about it outside the drawing tools,,
Good evening, I have greenish (cool people say olive) complexion and a big nose, and ever since I was a young girl I alway felt very self conscious about it, and during my teenage years I used to hate my body and my face because of it. Now I learned to like myself, and I really do, it was a long process to learn to love all of my features and appreciate them and find them pretty, and it helped a lot finding these same features in other persons and in illustrations (even exaggerating them, but still portraying them with love and respect and a gaze that clearly isn't trying to show them as ugly). I already saw someone getting criticized because of how they draw big noses, linking it to some sort of antisemitism (while my man was just roman), and the thought that someone may purge their art and only draw Disney like features or barbie proportions for fear of being disrespectful is bad (especially bad from my point of view because I managed to love my body through that very thing).
I don't want to generate a stir or anything (don't mean to say I'm right and other people are wrong), please you don't have to publish this ask (also because I think it's not very coherent, I'm sorry for that) I just wanted to let you know another perspective on the issue.
Sending much love <3 and thank you for sharing your beautiful art and your passion :)
actually came back to re-read this a couple of times through my day
thank you so much for sharing! i think your story refreshed my brain a little and i’ll be keeping it in mind🫂
imo if you know that jewish people are specifically asking you not to do one thing in your art that they perceive as perpetuating a derogatory stereotype against their community, and you’re basically insisting that they are wrong to feel that way and you reserve the right to do what you want, then you should maybe just take a moment and reassess lol. there are other ways to portray a slight greenish tint to spock’s skin while still being respectful to a community of people whose identity is central to the character of spock. just my thoughts tho i love your art
yes i guess i should’ve chosen words more carefully it’s just embarrassing now
i apologise i didn’t mean to sound like i know better just thought i could try to reason my thoughts; i’ll do better i promise
hey!! just saw your most recent spock drawings on my dash, and i just kinda wanna give you a heads up about something. generally it’s not a great idea to draw spock with green skin - it plays into a lot of old antisemitic tropes, and jewish fans have made the request that we don’t do it. leonard nimoy was very proudly jewish and wove a lot of aspects of that into the development of spock and vulcan culture. i’m certain you didn’t mean anything by it - honest mistakes happen sometimes! just wanted to let you know so you can adjust accordingly :)
thank you for your concern, i actually wasn’t aware of this problem
i’ve made a little research on the topic and can understand why it might alarm and concern someone; however, i don't think it makes sense to take it this far in modern star trek fandom
spock's greenish skin is primarily one of his character's many attributes (meaning that he’s not just a green-skinned human - he’s from a whole positively represented and complex culture etc etc), so i doubt this aspect alone should be a cause for concern; and personally i don't think such a unique and overall nice feature of his design should be ignored at all - i enjoy coloring him very much, it just looks natural
anyway i wish no harm to anyone; thank you again for letting me know about this whole thing, i’ll be mindful
