there's something so endearing about Yorgos Lanthimos and Emma Stone friendship and artistic collaboration if you think about it what were the chances of a greek man with such a peculiar and personal style finding his muse in a girl grown up in arizona on the other side if the world and their collaboration brings out the BEST of her as an actress and you can tell so clearly from the films they make that they trust each other so much. It's honestly one of the best actor/director duo of our generation because you can clearly see the creative energy floating both ways ekevating each other's work it's beautiful

there’s a line that writers and actors spout that rhaenyra and alicent are “torn apart by men” that i find irritating and i think leads to my major problems with the last two episodes…it’s not that they are actively being torn apart by men at that point (although the show tries to shoehorn this as the explanation) but that their lives have been irrevocably shaped by patriarchal dictates to the degree that they possess needs and desires that put them in conflict. as a child alicent was made queen by her father and bore children that are a challenge to rhaenyra’s claim so she has no choice but to dispute that claim to preserve the lives of her children under this feudal system; rhaenyra’s father made her heir while also having a son, meaning that son, who is alicent’s, is an inherent threat to rhaenyra as long as he breathes and vice versa. and rhaenyra and alicent in episodes 6-8 are intelligent enough to know this. which is why otto and daemon taking the lead and being at odds with them in episodes 9 and 10 rings false to me. alicent’s surprise at her father’s coup does not accord with her understanding in episode 6 that aegon is a threat to rhaenyra and so to preserve his life he must become king; rhaenyra’s hesitance to go to war is at odds with her proposal to daemon in episode 6 to become her husband and wage her wars to put her on the throne and inherit the legacy of her father that she so longs to inhabit and to protect her and her own children. their lives were shaped as girls in such a way that they have come to genuinely possess violently diverging goals. the show tries to say at the last minute those goals are actually the same but men are trying to puppeteer them against each other, which is a far cheaper story about how patriarchy prevents bonds between women on a systematic level than the one where it happens when you are young, that your life takes certain paths in response to patriarchal prerogative, that your interests and those of father and husband are in alignment, not naturally but in response to pressures that serve to maintain the order of things that you are embedded in, that certain doors and ways you can relate to other women can close.

I still really don't like how the show is overlooking that the main conflict is between rhaenyra and aegon and completely ignoring their relationship
