“I should have listened to my friends, you are no real man” screams my wife. For a split second, the thought that she has discovered that I’m not a human crosses my mind.
I stared for a couple of second at that mad face that my wife had turned into. Her eyes were ruddy and her lips wet with spit. Her hair was a tangled mess she had knitted swinging her head around in her fury. Her look had never been upset by more that a fallen eyelash or a invisibly smudged lipgloss yet when she was furious, all her order and self-care rushed out of her screaming mouth and down her cheeks along with tears and watery mascara. I had seen her angry thrice during our seven years of happy marriage. The first time was when we were robbed two weeks after we came back from our honeymoon. They had stolen a toaster and the small TV in the kitchen which she had received as a gift from her father before he died the year prior. The second time was the day they had announced to her mother that she was expecting a baby. Maureen, my lovely mother in law who still could not believe how on heart her lovely child could marry such an awful man like me, was completely wrecked by the fact that now that her only, most beloved daughter was heavy with child, the possibilities that the two of us broke up were more faint than ever. She still hopes to this day, after our second child. Nora was sitting now, the angry force powering a minute prior had been drained out by her shouts. She looked like something empty, the exact representation of a butterfly cocoon after the butterfly has flown away. I leaned down and hugged her, wrapping my forearms below her elbows gracelessly resting on the table and on her hand, her head. “It’s going to be ok. I promise. We came this far. You remember what your father told us, when we told him we wanted to marry?” I softly said in her ear. A lock of sandy hair had fallen in front of it, tangling into the big silver hoops I had given her for our anniversary. She smiled softly, a tired smile she always makes when she nostalgically recalls her father’s words. “Don’t you dare listen to Maureen. I sure love my wife but I also know her as my own pockets. You two are going to be a blessing to each other.”Those for sure were Otis’s words. I still remember the antiseptic smell of the hospital room and how he had stubbornly stayed fat until the very end. I hugged her harder, i would have liked to cover her all body with my own. I loved her, really. “I check on the kids, you go to get a shower, yes?” I softly told her. She nodded, tired by all the confusion of that night. She slowly moved toward out room. i waited before she was out of sight and I rushed into the children room. They were sound asleep, thanks god. I moved as slow and as quietly as I could and leaned over the top of the bunk bed. Alla was fast asleep, tugging on her worn-out teddy bear. I bought it back in London before we moved here. I had told her it was taking away a piece of home. I never got a chance to do that, but I had always wished I had something from back home. Also, her old home was so close to her new one, even if we were half a world away. You have no idea how close things become when you come from so far away. I brushed my dear daughter forehead and looked at the goldish scale trace appearing under my touch. They were shinier and shinier each night. I shivered, I will not hide that. I was afraid, five hundred years old and afraid of a glitter. You would be too if you knew what it meant. I automatically hide it with a lock of her sandy hair. I tucked down and saw my son, bundled up in his blanket. He was even worse, with his nose and under eye down to the upper and lower lips covered in pitch black shiny scales. His dark hair had already started moving around as if underwater, with that same peculiar attitude that characterizes my kind. I rubbed my hand with my callous hands, in that act of desperation that I learned to share with humankind. I hear something moving above my head and stood up alarmed. I knew better to stay ducked when a threaten is near. War was a long time a go, but not far enough to forget. Alla had woken up, sleepy eyes were not the one of a five years old girl. Her eyes were of a rotten gold, dark, burned from the inside. Light shone from her iris. She was transforming quickly, too quickly. I looked at her round face that I loved so much. “Dada… where is Iro? Is he still sleeping” I caressed her cheek trying to confort myself, if truth be told. I could no longer hide that, they started to evolve, quicker than I had hoped to. It was now or never. My last thought went to Nora, my sweet, dear, beloved Nora. I made Alla climb my shoulder, in silence and picked up Iro from his bed, without waking him up. The time had come to go back home.
hi! thanks for reading. A really similar writing prompt has appeared on @writing-prompt-s but I could not find  it on their page so I could not submit it as a repost. Sorry for the trouble, I have absolutely no intention of stealing any content. Thanks again.
