take away the glass: Roy/Keeley/Jamie + Kink Discovery (5/5)
I FUCKING FINISHED ITTT!!!!
summary:
After telling Roy about what happened in Amsterdam, Jamie starts having weird nightmares. He figures Roy must have been right about what happened being âtraumatizingâ. After thinking about how heâs had seemingly out of proportion or totally random negative reactions to sex, Jamie realizes even though he doesnât fully remember what happened his body clearly does. He has triggers, apparently, he just has no clue what they are - and not much about what he actually does like either. He decides he should find out, with Roy and Keeleyâs help.
chapter five:
Jamie/Keeley, Roy/Jamie, and Roy/Keeley/Jamie
excerpt:
Jamie's still catching his breath, flat on his back in Keeley's bed with her laying on top of him, strap still wet between his legs, when she abruptly lifts up to look him in the eye, digging her bony little elbows hard into his pecs. Ample as they are, it still stabs. He makes a noise of complaint, but doesn't push her off.
"So," she says. Her face is grim and serious but her eyes are bright. "Roy, yeah?"
"Yeah," Jamie agrees automatically. Then, "Er, what about him though?"
"Well, we could-" She pauses and Jamie watches in real time as the light of excitement in her eyes dims and goes out. "Okay, wait, I think weâŚ" She gets up and does her post-peg routine, then gets perfunctorily dressed in a cami and boyshorts and brings Jamie a t-shirt. She knows him too well to suggest pants when he's in bed - and anyway, he's still kind of wet down there so he'd only have to change them again later probably. He kind of likes the feeling, and doesn't want to clean up just yet. He sits up to shrug on the shirt, though. If Keeley thinks it's important.
"Okay," Keeley says again, once they're both as dressed as they're going to get and they're sitting cross-legged on top of her blankets, facing each other. "Roy. I- You know I still lo- have feelings for him, yeah?"
"Yeah," Jamie repeats. He wasn't worried, but Keeley's seriousness is freaking him out a little. "Are you breaking up with me about it?"
"No!" Keeley assures quickly, leaning forward to grasp Jamie's hands. She seems to decide that's not reassuring or close enough and climbs partway into his lap. They're breathing the same air when she continues. "Whatever else comes from this conversation or doesn't, Jamie, I'm sticking with you. I want us to work, that's first priority. Okay?"
"Yeah, okay," Jamie says. He breathes a sigh of relief, and then plops a wet but chaste little kiss on Keeley's jaw, since he's there. "Okay, so⌠Roy?"
"I just⌠I think maybe you're into him too?" She says it kind of like a question even though it in't really, so Jamie doesn't know how to answer. She keeps going when he doesn't say anything. "You definitely- I mean, at least he turns you on. Right?"
"Well, he is fit," Jamie acknowledges. He had his late night visits with that poster on his wall as a kid, he wouldn't try to deny that, might even bring it up himself if he thought it were relevant or funny. If he had to pick a first celebrity crush, it would probably be Roy - although that Roy, the one on telly and in Jamie's adolescent head, is a different guy than the real life Roy.
Turns him on is not really the same thing as being fit, though, is it?
"He makes you get the way you get when you're with me," Keeley says next. Which is also a different thing. When Jamie thinks of it that way, though, yeah it's true. He weren't really thinking of it like a sex thing, like Keeley's implying now, even though it definitely happens during sex and when it happens outside of sex it makes him want to have some.
"Oops," he says, realizing some things. "Think I might've been accidentally hitting on him." Keeley laughs, gentle and sweet.
"Yeah, I think you might have too," she says. "But I think he's been doing it back, yeah?" Jamie shrugs. He's not sure. He's not so great at reading people usually - except Roy and Keeley are shaping up to be exceptions to that, at least certain ways. He's not exactly at his most detailed orientation when he's in that floaty being-good place, though.
"I flirted with him a bit too," Keeley confesses. "And he did it back. So I was thinking maybe we could⌠bring him in. To 'us'."

One more little sneak-peak blurb to power me through the last sequence of the story :)
Higgins called him into his office as the team came inside to use the weight room, and then said something, very hesitantly, about how he could make a few calls, if Jamie was willing. Jamie heard mostly white noise. He caught bits and pieces of the phrases, Manchester and weekend and the last incident and weâve banned your father from Nelson Road, but we could also, maybe, at the Etihad...Â
âPlease donât,â Jamie choked out--numb, but not enough not to be desperate.
âAre you sure?â Higgins asked, âBecause Iâm certain City would be willing to hear us out without having to give them too many details. I can request they prevent him from entering the stadium entirely while weâre there.â
âNo, it ainât worth all the trouble. Really, sir.â He sounded so panicked. He was panicked. He just. He didnât want that at all. âHeâs, uhm, heâs got season passes, so. ButâŚhe wonâtâŚwe wonât disturb the team again, swear down.âÂ
Higgins face pinched, all patient and determined. Jamie figured he must be a good dad, Higgins.  All those boys at home who loved him. Came to a lot of Richmondâs matches just to support him, that lot, and it werenât even like Higgins was down on the pitch. They just wanted to sit with him in the box. It was mad. âJamie,â the man said carefully, âMy biggest concern is that heâll disturb you.â

Thinking about angry teenager Jamie who has been and pushing to try and provoke Simon and the man just WILL NOT RISE TO THE BAIT. He responds to every insult with a smile and no comment. Seems not to hear any sarcasm. Is constantly baking Jamieâs favorite things.
Finally, Jamie canât hold in his anger and just shoves Simon with enough force to have him stumbling into the kitchen counter. And then heâs horrified. His dad would have responded with a punch or a slap. Likely more. But Simon just looks a bit sad and says âIâm not going to let you hurt me physically, Jamie. Do you need space or do you want to talk? You just let me know what you need.â
And Jamie just crumbles.

I think you reconcile it by seeing the finale barbecue as confirmation that they get together!
if you watch all of Ted Lasso except for the finale, you unironically genuinely receive a beautiful storyline about a slow burn polyamorous romantic relationship, and I still donât know how to reconcile that factually true statement with the very last episodeâs existence

when I see something dated 2019 I think âoh thatâs not too long agoâ and then I remember that 2019 was not only five years ago but those five years have somehow contained several lifetimes

I'll never be over Isaac karate chopping Jamie because he thought he had magically gained the ability to split things in half and Jamie being so genuinely hurt that Isaac would do that to him because "what if you had". Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum over here

That was me! And it makes me SO SAD. Like I think Jamie and Dr. Sharon clearly role played and talked through setting boundaries with his dad and rebuilding his relationship with his teammates and coaches and bb boy is trying SO HARD and IT is so hard and it just makes me want to scoop him up and put him in my pocket and protect him from all the hard things.
Someone mentioned in the server the other day that Jamie starting a sentence with "respectfully, coach" in s2e7 sounds like something he picked up in therapy (especially considering how he was talking to James in the next episode - "Don't speak to me like that," "I'd rather them not") and that wounded me for some reason.....s2 Jamie talking to Dr Fieldstone about how to get Roy to be nice to him.....kill me

Also whatâs funny to me is I will never see a poly relationship involving a ship as a threat to my ship. Like Iâm thinking back to all the couples Iâve shipped and I literally wouldnât be sad about adding a third to any of them. Expand your horizons, folks! Embrace polyamory. In fiction, at least. It makes life way more fun.
The batshit thing about the R/K shippers hating on Jamie is that Keeley and Roy both love Jamie. The haters have completely ignored every character beat and growth and instead focused on "het couple is always end game" and got pissed when that didn't happen because it turns out their characters are more nuanced than that.
they mischaracterize all three of them to an insane degree because they for some reason feel the constant need to prove that R/K are the healthiest most well adjusted couple in the history of television and Jamie possesses absolutely zero threat to their relationship whatsoever because they both are merely 'putting up with him' at best or secretly hate him at worst (all of which are laughable claims to anyone who has watched the show with their eyes open, and possesses even the most meager analysis skills in their brains).
I also think the way they talk about R/K is often so reductive if not genuinely gross (in addition to just being like, generally of a heteronormative flavor)...and that's the ship they're meant to LIKE. like there were people yesterday screaming about how "Roy would NEVER share Keeley!!!1!!!" and it's like...well Keeley isn't a toy they're passing around or hogging, so jot that down. She's a person with her own agency, who isn't with... get this... EITHER ONE OF THEM at the end of the series!!! Yeah, that includes ROY!!! So Roy at the moment really has zero say in whether she wants to fuck Jamie again or not, lmao. she's every bit as capable of getting back together with him as she is Roy post canon. and if they were together, opening their relationship to someone else would be...a mutual decision...because Keeley is a whole character of her own and not just a prop for your male fav...
And then there's the whole "well we ship something that's actually CANON and therefore BETTER, whereas R/J & RJK shippers are just weaving mystical delusions because they're ~desperate for representation~ or whatever. Which is apparently why the Apple TV account and even the actors should never, ever so much as allude to RJK again, because it diminishes their "real and correct" couple. Again, NEITHER PAIRING IS EVEN ENDGAME CANON.
And finally, all the little ways they constantly try to mask the fact that they just hate Jamie because he's in the way of their ship with "real analysis" that boils down to such riveting takes as: "Jamie = Irredeemable and Bad because he hurt Keeley three seasons ago" "Roy = baby boy who has never hurt Keeley ever in his life and is perfect for her in every which way. oh? here's a canonical scene where Roy is canonically hurting Keeley? WELL, that's just bad writing. OOC, that is. the writers just suck. my favorites cannot be flawed"
anyway...I love roykeeley in the very specific way they exist in my head but i really need the r/k diehards to like... step back and accept the fact that they canonically BROKE UP and are not inherently perfect and better than any other ship between flawed characters. go read fanfiction and imagine the ending of your choosing to your heart's content, like the rest of us, and stop targeting social media managers jumping on the latest silly internet meme. sorry for the rant it's just....so fucking irritating
