can centipedes swim?
some do it for a living!
although since centipedes are not buoyant they tend to just walk on the bottom of puddles, the very muscular scolopendrids seem to swim quite well by tucking their legs to the side and undulating like an eel. they can seal their breathing pores to survive floods, and can go a long time on low oxygen, so it’s not too surprising there are amphibious Scolopendra!
youtube
however I don’t think geophilomorphs could swim since they’re too long and floppy, but probably get by fine walking around underwater (many species are actually found by the sea!)
I also don’t think Scutigera can swim, since they don’t really have the length for that. I suppose I could test it but I’d feel bad.

Speaking up and educating people on why the most hated life forms on the planet are important and meaningful is a thankless task.
How do we reach out and get people to care about insects and spiders when the average reaction is either "EEWW KILL IT WITH FIRE" or blind panic?
Arthropods are crucial to the survival of life as we know it. Yes, even commonly vilified bugs like wasps and mosquitoes have ecological niches that the world CANNOT do without.
I cannot overstate their importance.

Biblically Accurate Bugs Vol 2
Tumblr media
This design is inspired by Cherubs- which have 4 heads: a lion, an eagle, an ox, and a human. But we're here for bugs, so this cherub features 4 eggs with the wings of lepidoptera, coleoptera, dermaptera and diptera
(Thats butterflies, beetles, earwigs and dragonflies)
Vote for your favourite colourway!

Moltar, oil painting by Joey Edwards
This artist’s Instagram // Facebook // Etsy // Full Linktree
From the artist (via reddit): Back in 2005 my beloved millipede Moltar passed away and I was really sad about it. I loved him dearly.  Not long after he passed I somehow was able to send an entire term (3ish months) in my college oil painting class creating this gigantic 9’x4’ painting of Moltar ascending his mortal coil.
