The "right over left is for the dead" is the dominant understanding with regards to crossed collar attire like kimono and hanfu but I feel like there's some additional context that should be considered i.e. the dominance of left-over-right likely came out of it being easier to tie up your clothes that way for right-handed people specifically. Also, specifically in the Chinese context, non-Han ethnic groups would sometimes wear their clothes right-over-left because it allowed for more upper body mobility. Left-over-right was thus reinforced amongst Chinese Han people in an effort to differentiate themselves from "uncivilised" people -> basically became a marker for "being civilised," which is why it has become the dominant way of wearing hanfu.

Obviously these considerations probably won't apply when drawing Minecraft youtuber fanart since most of it is ahistorical anyway, but there are reasons behind cultural norms and I feel like this sort of cultural context should be shared in conjunction with the tip not to draw collars crossed the wrong way around.

Honestly I know this isn't a big deal, but as a Japanese MCYT fan I get so bothered when fans draw like, Joel or Etho or Philza etc with Japanese inspired outfits but get the fold of the neckline wrong. Like, it's a cultural thing, Japanese people fold their robes left over right specifically, right over left is done for the dead. And it's not a thing where I dislike white people drawing things from different cultures- I think gatekeeping like that is dumb, but I feel like if you're going to draw something from a different culture you should know what comes off as offensive.

#also if you have trouble remembering how left over right should look just compare the collar to the letter y #halvedblab #nitpicking but I feel like ''offensive'' is not really the right term because of how loaded the reason behind the dominance of L over R is

Last Life was really the best concept for these sorts of dramatics because you could go red and be brought back. On an interpersonal, story level, what is the impact of that. The monster remembers being rejected. Or, "you're not a monster, I know you're not." Or, you didn't save me from becoming a monster. Or

Something that drives me really crazy about the Life series is how, even though in the "rules" that red names are supposed to break off their friend/allyships when they turn red, it actually rarely happens properly..... Like they try, but. even if my friend's a "monster," they're still my friend
