every single day I think about how american black vultures are known for engaging in allopreening (preening between different species)

and they have a specific relationship with crested caracaras, in which the black vultures assist them by not only preening them after meals but also leading them to food in the first place— due to their superior sense of smell— while the caracaras assist the black vultures by acting as a warning signal in case of danger

and while this is more typical of black vultures, this is not common at all for any member of the falconidae family— it’s a special bond!

Excerpt:

Dean leaned against Lucifer's chest and wrapped his arm around his boyfriend's middle, snuggling closer as he took in the subtle scent of his flowery perfume. Lucifer answered by kissing the top of Dean's head on instinct, but he was focused on what his brother Michael was saying, not Dean. The two brothers were talking about new guns they needed to buy to fight a rival gang, or something similar; Dean wanted to focus on the conversation too, because it would probably involve him at one point, but his eyes were heavy, and his brain felt as if it had been immersed in molasses. Dean’s little brother, Adam, chimed in from time to time with his usual sarcastic remarks. Their voices were low and calm, lulling Dean’s tired brain into the sleepy state Dean himself was trying to fight.

Excerpt:

Gabriel put the groceries on the kitchen table and yawned, not bothering to cover his mouth. No one would see him anyway – he hadn’t lived with another person in a long time. The gentle light of the sun peeked through the open windows of his small kitchen, illuminating the light dust on the table that he hadn’t cared to clean up earlier. His apartment was filled with noises coming from the street, a mix of cars on the asphalt, honking, and people yelling at each other. Letting out an annoyed groan, Gabriel frowned at the cacophony of sounds. He had always liked being a part of that, back when he had lived with his father and siblings. He had probably been the cause of most noises people heard in his neighborhood back in the day. Now, though, living on his own in a new city, he felt like an outsider. He was an outsider; ever since he got here, he hadn’t bothered to make many friends. He was polite to people coming into his bakery, but nothing more than that.

Being a fanfic writer is certainly something, because before you post a fic with an actual title you can just call it whatever the hell you want in Google Docs (or wherever else you write). Like, there are the ones where the title is what it’s going to be called on release, some with song lyrics or two word long titles that you tell yourself you’re going to change later (you won’t), and then there’s stuff like “They’re so divorce coded”, “The one where Adam doesn’t have a good time”, and “Oops! You got adopted! Kinda. It’s complicated”
