I'm so sorry, that pic in your post of debling and pen dancing with what looks like colin in the bg is soo funny... if that is him- col really said I have closed my eyes, I have turned away, I do not see it 😔
He’s actually 3 apples tall in this photo and is desperately trying to find the speck on the wall he’s staring at interesting

Is this Colin seeing Pen dancing with Debling and him starting to feel yearning and desire for her as more than just his friend? He sees them dancing, reminds himself that she’s wanting to find suitors, but something in him is nagging that it isn’t quite right and something is off about, whether it be Debling or his feelings… hence his watery eyes and look of almost resignation

Looking at the world tour and that does seem like a gruelling schedule, especially if it’s in between part one and two like Luke has said. I hope that they look after themselves. I’m going to love every moment because after season 3, it’s unlikely we will see Luke and Nicola interact
Man I hope they take the biggest rest and relaxation after these press tours lord knows they’re both working their tail ends off.
I also hope they do more projects together in the future bc they’re such a dynamic duo and have such a great relationship 😭😭 it would be a shame to not have them work together again (alls well that ends well, I suppose, though)

I'm not sure why anyone would be upset about Colin gaining experience when the whole point is him understanding why he's not as invested in that sort of thing because there's no emotional connection between him and his partners which in turn makes him examine his relationship with Penelope when he realizes how he feels about her. It's sex vs making love here and because he's yet to really be in love those experiences will pale in comparison to being with Penelope. That's the whole point. While some want Colin to be a virgin along with Penelope to gain that experience together, there's something to be said about Colin understanding he was doing it wrong hence why he felt nothing more than gratification, if that. He doesn't yet understand the act of making love because he's never been in it so he's merely sating a physical need. I would want him to have more practical knowledge than Penelope. The better to pleasure her with, you know?
No that totally makes sense anon!
I can’t speak for everyone but I’m not angry or anything over the choice of him being with other people before Penelope because, like you said, he probably doesn’t understand the difference between just purely sexual satisfaction and making love with some you cherish and care for. And we could be entirely wrong on this lol.
I personally wish we could see more tropes of teens/young adults falling in love and learning their sexual awakenings together. And I know the above and what I’m about to say isn’t the case with Polin, but I find a lot of the preferred romances to be a bit icky/a power imbalance with wanting someone who has so much experience being with someone who has none. It kind of gives me the ick anymore and that’s why I think it’d be nice to see something a bit different from time to time.
Again, not saying this is Polin at all or really any of the Bridgerton couples, it’s just something I’ve noticed within the genre as a whole that irks me.

I get what you mean about the dynamic being uneven because of the lack of experience on Penelope's part, I just think it's a bit short sighted to project a desire you might have for the story as a means to kind of diminish the story that the creators actually want to tell. Truth is, Colin is in fact older than Penelope and let's face it, a man. It would make sense that he'd have sexual experience before settling down because it was of the times. Sure, anything can be written because this is fiction, but the truth is that women were already at a disadvantage due to lack of knowledge so I kind of like the idea that what Colin takes from these meaningless encounters is something that he can apply in his worship of Penelope when the time comes. Sure, them being two fumbling virgins might have been adorable, but when you have Colin trying to coach Penelope on how to snag a man, it's best he's actually had experiences that have likely matured him in a way he was not before, no?
Oh anon I’m not trying to diminish the writers story at all! I’m sorry if it’s coming across that way 😭.
I obviously will accept whatever story or plot they come up with for polin/colin in general. I just like to have head canons and theorize things that could have played out differently (based off of what we’ve been given with spoilers and such thus far).
I think (if what has been said is true, excluding that one portion of the Sun article that is hopefully not accurate) it’s going to work out perfectly and that what they’ve set up as far as Colin being Pen’s coach for suitors and stuff will make the most sense! I like that they’ve taken a different spin than the exact plot line of the book. It makes it more interesting. Plus I like that we’re getting a more romantic comedy/comedy drama type of vibe with them, because I think that works so well with Polin.
I’m sorry if I’m coming across as negative or like I’m not going to enjoy the season because I 1000% will be!! I just like talking and theorizing with everyone about different tropes and hypothetical plots 🥹🫶

My issue is not with the sexual experience bit. I also dislike the assumption that's why people are upset with this rumor. I would have been fine with him sleeping with other women with clear consent. Bridgerton has made it clear in their universe it still experiences regency sexism and that women didn't have many prospects out of marriage. Brothels there are exploiting their sex workers and for some of them it's their only choice. It implies that Colin does not really care and so it made me not like him in the way I used to. There are other reasons than the one I mentioned for why people are upset too.
Btw I'm not the Anon who is calling women whores in your ask box and I hate the fact that this fandom is making me even have to say that.
Oh for sure anon, there are implications and spoilers presented that do seem iffy and not okay, but the writers have made their decisions obviously.
Everyone’s entitled to like certain plot lines or storylines and/or wish for things to maybe be different (though calling women whores is too much good god) but I also think it’s fun to talk about different head canons people might have or what they thought would have been a good/interesting way to go with things.
At the end of the day it’s all fictional stories for us to talk about and ponder over, and we really can’t say much rn since we don’t even have the season yet 😭 I just like to talk and speculate with everyone.

I feel like they rushed this season, if we had gotten to see Colins character development on screen for a hypothetical ben/sophie season it probably wouldn't feel so out of character, it's bad writing, hopefully we'll get a conversation with pen pointing out how he's so different and he explains why other than just "I traveled around the world and experienced so much"
I wouldn’t say they rushed it per-say, but I think they’re sticking with the same narrative they do with all males in regency/period pieces- they’re all women loving men who have way more experience than the women they end up with because for whatever reason people in romance genres LOVE to see “over-experienced man with virgin women who need everything taught to her” and I just wish we could have a little bit more variety in that department 😭😭.
I hope they do flesh it out a bit more bc it still seems out of the blue imo for Colin. I hope they elaborate on why he finally chose to explore women more and to let loose in that aspect. He’s always been very done up and prim/proper in every aspect we’ve seen, so I find it interesting that his season is where he decides to throw caution to the wind and explore things.
But i also trust the writers and what Luke and Nic have both said about this season being incredibly romantic and sweet friends to lovers. I don't think they'd lie to us or steer us in a direction we wouldn't like, ya know?

It’s so funny how people have a problem with Colin being in a brothel and having a threesome when Benedict literally had one in season 3, and Anthony was with Sienna, wanted to take Colin to a brothel and was sleeping around before he fell for Kate. I know it’s different for anyone, but I couldn’t care less who Colin has been with in the show, as we will get him besotted with Penelope. Also I think a lot of people have multiple partners and a history before settling down with the one they intend to be serious with, and that’s the case here.
Also, if you are a member of the Polin subreddit and do not mind major spoilers, you can find the entire break down of the first episode from season 3 from the Australia screening.
It doesn’t necessarily matter what the brothers did or didn’t do, I personally feel it’s a bit out of character for show Colin since he’s never really shown interest before (to my knowledge). Book Colin on the other hand is an entirely different story.
And it makes no difference if Colin has experience or not to me, I just think it could’ve been a prime opportunity to have a male lead who’s not that experienced with women and who has only heard things most from his brothers. Bc I find it hard to believe that EVERY man of that era was out fucking left and right we had to have had a few virgins mixed in 😭😭 but I think it could’ve been an opportunity for him and Pen to explore intimacy and those acts together and think it could’ve been a very sweet exploration of their sexualities if that makes sense. Bc that’s also nice to see in the romance genre since it’s such a rarity as it is, even in regular shows that aren’t period pieces.
And I avoid Reddit like the plague I’ve never been a fan of it tbh 😭. I just see what ppl send me.

and when they decide to have Colin and Pen continue the columns and be Lord and Lady Whistledown together instead of stopping the publication like in the books and she lives on into the next seasons being written by both Pen and Colin… then what 👀
