More photos of Shadow's visit to the vet yesterday. He is feeling better after his antibiotic shot and ear cleaning...and he will continue on liquid meds here at Rescue HQ. Once he is cleared medically from his URI we will be updating his vaccines. He also will see our rescue groomer. Shadow is a 6-7 year old spayed male that came from the shelter as an owner surrender. He has the neatest purrsonality! ❤️🐾❤️🐾 He is neutered and chipped and soon will be well and up to date on vaccines so he can make an Adoption Day Debut. A thinner, more healthy Juicy (MDAS) checking out the sights, sounds and possibly some squirrels during outdoor time. She does like the latter. We wish we didn't have to but would like to address something we have been made aware of floating around social media with regard to her and the other Miami dogs pledges for rescue. This will be a longer post but we hope to give you a clearer picture. We urge you to DO THE MATH. Since it was stated that there was in excess of $3,000 in pledges for the Miami dogs care (2019) we want the donors to know where that was spent or set aside to be spent shortly to dispell any thoughts to the contrary. First off, not everyone honored those pledges 😔 Including a medical sponsor we were assured of for $440. Boarding or short term boarding for 5 out of the 6 dogs when they either came from foster or there wasn't space at Rescue HQ. Two of these girls were heartworm positive (Juicy and Gina) Juicy completed the fast kill protocol in 2019. Gina will begin her treatments soon and those funds were set aside so her treatment is covered. Rocco remained in Miami in hospital style boarding for close to two weeks until he was medically cleared for transport from a URI. He also was not neutered at the shelter because of his illness. Sasha had a biopsy for her masses which proved non cancerous and surgery to remove them over $1300. Sadly Buddy's condition took a turn for the worse in December and we had labs and CBC done which revealed end stage renal failure. The causes were known from that day forward. Plus his final expenses. We laid out sweet Mud Bud (as we liked to call him because he loved to dig in the dirt) to rest. We miss him still and wish others would honor his memory and let him rest in peace. Over $800 in crates damaged and the assistance of a behaviorist/trainer to come another $300. Rocco still has happy tail and just when we think it's healed and we are on a good path he opens it up again. We need to follow up with the vet. Juicy developed an abscess late last year as a side effect of imiticide injections. Cost to treat this was over $700. The entire month of February each year is about spay and neuter awareness and today is World Spay Day. There are those that think this doesn't matter but tell that to the perfectly healthy dogs and cats losing their lives for no other reason than being born. 😥 Our shelters are overcrowded.
