i disagree with the take of the “nice guy” trope being used with marty. he was just a guy who had a crush on his friend, i don’t think they ever implied that he felt he deserved to “have” her just because he was nice, he just was nice and happened to like her. when he told her he had feelings for her, he said it so she was aware and put his feelings out there. and honestly, you can’t blame him for never really talking to her again because why would he do that if it was just going to hurt him. i would do the same. season 7 was awful, but i just choose to disregard that.

in the end i don’t like that they had marty have a crush on rory, but i don’t agree that he had any bad intentions, or was only being nice to get something out of it.

What are your opinions on Tristan and Marty?

I am honestly not a fan of either and they both annoy me for different reasons😭

Tristan, for starters, never appealed to me. At all. The way he constantly cornered Rory and tried to bully her into dating him was infuriating and so uncomfortable to watch, especially considering how she turned him down repeatedly and clearly didn’t want anything to do with him. Oh, and wnot to count the fact that he toyed with Paris knowing she had feelings for him. He’s just sleazy and annoying and I never saw any improvement with his character. Don’t really understand why anyone would stan him either but well, to each their own, I guess

Now Marty started out fine and would’ve been a likable character if they hadn’t used the Nice Guy trope with him, and made it seem like Rory owed him reciprocation because he was nice to her. Then when they brought him back in season 7... what a hot mess. I barely remember the storyline in detail but it just wasn’t it.

Neither of them really suited Rory in my opinion and I think it’s weird people still ship her with them when she had no interest in them whatsoever

One of the grossest scenes ever is when Rory and Marty go with Logan and his asshole friends to that expensive restaurant and his dumbass friend has the audacity to make fun of Marty for not having 100 dollars and using an atm. Excuse me not everyone gets their daddy’s money handed to them on a silver platter.
