Currently on episode 23 of Shen Li and I'M SCREAMING?????

This batte was one of the parts I was looking forward to seeing the most adapted and HOLY SHIT NOT ONLY DID IT NOT DISAPPOINT IT WAS EVERYTHING I WANTED AND MORE. IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN THE BOOK WHAT THE HELL.

The CGI was absolutely breathtaking, the music and sound effects were perfect. Shen Li is the most badass FL I've seen in a cdrama. She's so overpowered and resilient and fearless and ruthless and so so kind and. And. She set fire to the sea CAN YOU BELIEVE???

and don't get me started on Mo Fang's puppy eyes.

you have to understand that in the book xing zhi is said to be basically a mythological figure even to the demons and immortals. he is THE one last surviving ancient god and he hasn't come out of seclusion in a thousand years. so the absolute funniest scenes in the show are when: shen li's troops are relentlessly gossiping about their lord's love life, concocting stories - and every troop member upon seeing xing zhi and shen li has this moment where they glance at each other and hiss DID YOU SEE THAT. they are shippers. some of them are concerned. some of them are glad for her. i'm sure there is a betting pool on shen li and mo fang and that mo fang fans are Very Upset right now. but they're all like??? XING ZHI???

it's like. what if your boss runs away from an arranged marriage to a fuck-boy and comes back apparently in a secret relationship with god

the legend of shen li is a role-reversal of identities. it's about a sickly man picking up a chicken at a market and taking her home. except the chicken is a demon lord. so she's at his mercy, but she's the only one who can protect him when nobles come to bully him. except he's actually the highest god, the lonely god, the last of the ancient gods, idly going through a mortal trial due to sheer boredom. so when she returns to the clouds, she discovers him, so much higher than her. and now he's the only one who has the power to grant her wishes, but he's at her (emotional) mercy, because he didn't know she is engaged. so let's circle back to the start: a man and a chicken, both unknowing of who the other really is, both believing themselves to be the stronger one, both letting themselves submit a little to the other. insane. what if you pick up a chicken and it's a demon who can destroy cities. what if you are rescued by a doomed sweet mortal and he's the god who directs the three realms. what then? (love)

so: this is a story about grief. this is a story about a solemn man who lives in a shrine to his dead friends, who makes a library of a graveyard for leaves, who rejects all love because he knows it ends in death. and this is a story about a woman who is so brightly viciously determinedly alive that she can drag everyone else out of that state. convince them to let go. summon the river of forgetting. so: will she be the only one who makes him feel alive? or will he be the only one that she cannot let go of either? that she cannot forget?
