say what you will about rooster teeth and its business practices, but it is genuinely heinous that warner bros can just wipe something of such significance to youtube, the entertainment industry, and the internet as a whole completely off the map because they didnt "make enough of a profit"

I've been seeing a lot of people concerned about losing everything from the RT site and all of their favorite videos. However! I found this on Twitter.

They have almost every video on the RT site already downloaded. There's just like a thousand left. Definitely check it out or bookmark it for your viewing pleasure.

Rooster Teeth will be closing their website on May 15th 2024.

As of April 15th, it is no longer possible to subscribe to RT First, and they will no longer be making any new RT First content.

It also appears that some content that was previously First exclusive, such as the Death Battle X alternate endings, is now available to everyone. This isn't universal though, as some content, such as gen:LOCK, remains First exclusive.

Anyway, if there's any content on Rooster Teeth's website that you wish to be able to access after the shutdown, then I highly suggest finding a way to archive it.

“Rooster Teeth had a lot of issues as evidenced by the allegations past employees have come forward with” and “Warner Bros is fucking evil for axing an entire company and letting some of its employees find out via tweet” are statements that can and should coexist.

Like. It’s not some gotcha that RT is shutting down. It’s not some vindictive justice that this Big Bad Company is gone now. Projects are now canceled. People will be fired from their jobs. And because it’s Warner Bros. it’s only a matter of time before all those animation projects (RvB, RWBY, Camp Camp, every single episode of anything they made) is scrubbed off of the internet.

It’s gonna be the same thing that happened with HBO Max. It’s gonna be the same thing with the Coyote vs. Acme movie and Batgirl.

RT going down is not the thing you should be lording over people. RT going down should not be some ammo for your “RWBY is mid” takes. RT going down is not some “I always knew it was cringe” meme. Real people are gonna be effected by this. People will lose this jobs and will lose all the passion projects they worked on.

This is horrifying for the people involved in these projects and the state of animation itself. Warner Bros. only owned Rooster Teeth for 2 years. They bought them in 2022. Not even 2 full years. They didn’t even get a chance and they axed THE ENTIRE COMPANY. NOT JUST ONE SHOW. THE ENTIRE FUCKING COMPANY AND ALL ITS IPS. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. THIS IS NOT THR TIME FOR A FAN WAR.

I know rooster teeth had a whole fucking host of problems and haven't watched their stuff in years but I still shed a tear for another day another internet group getting bought out by big media companies because "they're successful" and then being shut down because they don't make enough profit for wall street. let things stay small. not everything needs to be contract deals and billboards the beauty of the internet should be that there's thousands of little things for people to find the niche they like, not that anything that becomes popular is obviously the next big franchise and we need to throw millions of dollars at it. We live in an era where big companies are taking everything small from us. Heardle getting bought out by Spotify and then shut down bc they realized it cost more than it made. capitalism and the Internet are not built for each other.

the thing about variety describing warner bros discovery making "unsuccessful attempts to sell the unprofitable fandom" is that this shifts all the blame on the audience. how are you gonna try that with a fandom that crowdfunded films on a record-breaking scale, raised millions for extra life for years and years, and spawned their own fucking convention because RT was so goddamn popular?? insane that poor business restructuring and shitty company practices from WBD is being spun into "our audience didn't give us enough money so unfortunately, we have to sell RWBY (a western show that enjoys enormous popularity in japan despite not being a homegrown anime) and RvB (a show which pioneered machinima as both a genre and medium)"

What pisses me off is how blindsided the employees were. NOBODY in the company saw this coming.

Alright Jason. You barely won any Emmys because of category fuckery from The Bear. Now I know you must be feeling some kind of way. Let that anger fester and turn to spite. Then use that spite to write a season 4 worthy of sweeping all the awards.
