I got to this scene this time and their expressions cracked me up here so I had to do this.

Finally beat my honor mode save and got my last achievement for bg3 last night. The end of an era truly 😭

#dw I'm not dropping my interest in bg3 any time soon #but I've been chipping away at 100%ing this game since it came out #the karlach date and honor mode achievements were my last 2 and I got them both on this run #questlog

Just remembered how, when I was first levelling up Gale, I thought, 'huh, he's got fairly decent Consitution for a wizard. Useful for gameplay purposes, of course, but I wonder if there's a narrative explanation?'

And not an hour or two of play later, learned that the orb - if left untreated too long - causes him constant pain, muscle spasms and disorientation. Gale and Tara did not immediately figure out how to treat his condition, which meant that he likely spent weeks or months in that state - and of course, whenever the orb acts up, he goes through it again. He probably endures it constantly through the end of act 1, after his treatment stops working.

Constitution, of course, is that the stat that represents ability to focus while being hurt. Endurance even after physical distress. Pain tolerance.

Yeah. I think there's a narrative explanation.

[...] all Gale can think about when he sees it is how he’d stood in this exact spot after he’d been cursed with the orb. How he’d stared, equal parts dumbstruck and mortified, at the freshly placed burn on his chest. The bruise in the center hadn’t yet had time to form, then. It raised and blistered aggressively over the following days, adding another layer to the pain and confusion that already addled his heart and mind. To see it after it’d healed, the perfectly formed lines of it — it almost felt like a brand. An artistic rendition of his folly, embedded into his skin forever.  As he stares at it now, he realizes that feeling has never gone away.

This one thing, above all others. The powers that be seem to disagree. In fact, they may have seen fit to make the situation worse. Much worse.

More explorations through the parsed dialogue files. The nymph in Sharess's Caress (the one whose Fist client turns into a mind flayer) offers you a "moment of ecstasy" in return for saving her life - and apparently there are some character-specific dialog options for all of the origin characters (minus Lae'zel and plus Minsc) regarding their deepest desires. And I'm kinda having a lot of feelings about it.

Naoise Nallinto: The all-being. Here, there is no suffering. Here, you want for nothing. Here, you are anything. You have one word. Tell me: what will you be?

So, we all love Gale’s mirror image/simulacrum, and how the ‘certain measure of Gale’s personality’ that he retains is Gale’s sweet, dorky charm…but is Gale himself aware of this?

I don’t believe we ever see Gale actually interact with his mirror image, as it always appears as a replacement when Gale is elsewhere.

It’s possible Gale has always just assumed he’s created this 100% straightforward, serious mirror image who radiates scholarly intelligence…because surely, that’s the aspect of his personality that it would pull from, right?

Imagine if one night, after Gale and Tav are married and living in Waterdeep, they start reminiscing about their romance. Tav brings up their first night together, and mentions how surprised they were to see Gale’s mirror image standing in his place at camp.

Gale is pleased, and says with a gentle laugh that he hopes Tav wasn’t too intimidated by his simulacrum’s stoic nature.

To which Tav responds oh no, not at all! They loved how adorable he was, and they still remember the cute pose he did to represent Gale’s personality!

Gale (perplexed): …darling, whatever do you mean? What pose…?

Cue Tav, perfectly miming this:
